Our Walmart has signs citing the city ordinance that prohibits overnight parking, passed at the request of the RV parks. We're a snowbird destination near Phoenix, a town of 52,000 with over 2,000 RV spaces. We stopped for the night in a parking lot in Phoenix, cop told us to move to Walmart, gave me directions. I told him we arrived too late to check in at the nearby RV park and it would take a bit since I had taken my truck off the tow dolly, needed to check in the next morning with my new employer. He came back a few minutes later and said he had obtained permission for us to park there for the one night. That's serving the public!
The hell with the RV Park. If they have.no lots available, what gives them any say so. Semi's can park at Walmart and believe me "they are no better than us"
I don't think it's discrimination. A lot of older RVs are piles of junk. A blanket rule stops arguing over who's RV sucks. Face it, people treat RVs like the weekend speedboat. They use it like a toy and don't fix it until it breaks. Thus, the second best day of a boaters/RVers life is the day they sell it.
Be careful in places like NJ, NY, Massachusetts , Connecticut, Maryland and of course California. The Deep South and Midwest you’re golden but be careful in places like this. Passing through Philadelphia is another. Even though you might be reciprocal in Pennsylvania the policy of the PD is the issue there.
@@zazaaziella16 that’s because these poluticians want votes and they don’t care where they come from so they’ll blame the objects used in crimes instead of the criminals. As brainless biden is trying to give illegal aliens the right to vote
My wife definitely can appreciate Tara's issues. When we picked our 5th wheel up, over 700 miles away, that trip in one day took her down for over a week. Worst part of the whole trip, she got stuck behind the drivers wheel, for almost 5 hours, driving through downtown chicago (missed going through rockford to toll road), at night, in construction, and started to rain. She is such a trooper, and I felt so bad, but we had zero opportunity to get off. I was also thankful for the large fuel tank!
We had a lot of fun making this video but didn’t quite turn out the way we had envisioned it. A special Thank You to the Hennagar Police, Chief of Police, and Mayor🙏🇺🇸
Hey, we got it. Cute. As I buy equipment for the Motorhome, I weigh it. Add it to my total. I am near my limit so next thing I buy I gotta toss the scale...😂
I tow double/triple all the time. I’m 74 feet long and the law is 75 feet here in Idaho. I’m also a commercial driver with over 2 million miles of experience and my vehicle and trailers are all properly equipped for it.
agreed, Not as many miles under my belt as you but I do have the Double Trippel endorsement. truck pulling RV & Boat is only a double and not a triple as stated in vid.
I must say after owning a campground for 33 years that YES we were allowed to pass on the cost of electricity to our campers. We even had a camper turn us in the electric company came out and inspected the bills and told us everything looked good.
My Dad was an opponent to wearing seatbelts for many years till a State Trooper told him that an important aspect of seatbelts is that it keeps the driver behind the wheel so that they can control the vehicle better, especially in a skid.
Truth! You can't DRIVE when you're holding on to the wheel trying to stay in the seat for dear life! Use that belt! It's not hindering you at all! Story.. I'm a truck driver. I had an accident where I was on my right (passenger) side in a ditch. My seat belt kept me in the seat until I got the latch open. No bruising at all. Wear that belt!
When I was six, we had an accident where my sister was thrown into the windshield and broke her neck. Back then, cars didn’t have seat belts. The incident made me a believer in seat belts.
@@robertheinkel6225 I hope she survived and recovered okay. I had a two year old sister that fell down some stairs and broke her neck and killer her in 1963.
I travelled the US for about 15 years in an RV full time while working power plants. Now I've been living for 4+ years in a minivan by myself.....its stealthier.....im technically homeless but I'm very happy. (I'm retired) I break a host of laws daily and I dont really care.....its just America today. I rely on stealth.
Just saw this. Good info guys! And I agree with you John... Politicians are the bane of society. When you vote, you're not voting for the best... You're voting for who's not the worst... Keep up the great work!
11:08 Driving without a CDL. I'm against forcing people to get a Commercial Driver's License for non-commercial activity. However, I am for voluntarily getting training so that you can drive a large vehicle safely. And I do have a CDL.
Absolutely agree. So much of the bullshit with most modern laws is trying to coerce, or force through deception, people into interacting with the corporate state through commercial means when so much of what is done is a private--and thus, largely non-governed--activity. I am honestly against driver's licenses being mandatory just to be on the public roadways, when the very "licensing" itself technically makes it commercial activity in and of itself. While you should require a license to deliver pizzas, most jobs don't actually require driving, they just require that you be at the workplace at a certain time, and it doesn't matter if you use a bicycle, a horse, or an automobile. How I choose to get to work is my business, what happens on the clock is the employer's. And simply driving a large or heavy vehicle doesn't require permission from the state in order to do, or using a trailer. But yes, please get training if you're going to be moving anything that requires air-brakes, or is extremely heavy or long.
11:11 this one actually only goes off of the state you are licensed in. If the state you are licensed in does not require a CDL, you do not need a CDL. I have had issues with this one alot but I have a lawyer who knows his stuff
Its called reciprocity laws. Be careful in California because they do not always recognize laws from other states. One other thing on laws most Rvers break is leash laws for pets, most are 6' max, also clean up after pet.
After working in a level one Trauma hospital, I would never, ever drive without using a seatbelt. Ninety five percent of the people who died or had permanent brain damage resulting from a MVA were not wearing seat belts. Work on a person who has been ejected from their vehicle and you’ll NEVER consider not wearing a seatbelt again. It’s awful. I’ve had brain tissue drop onto my shoes while wheeling them from the Trauma Hawk to the Trauma Bay. Always buckle up.
The “C” in CDL stands for Commercial. For most states you need a A or B “non-CDL” license, depending on the weight of your RV; not a CDL , which requires a medical certificate. The test is easier. If in question, consult your home base DMV Commercial licensing center. They will be the most familiar with this issue.
I have always hated generators. As soon as I could I built a battery power station in my van, around 2015. I used 2 LiFePO4 batteries, 2000 watt inverter, DC to DC charger, cigarette ports, USB ports, DC circuit breakers, and several fuses. I have never run my generator since and I am much happier. Life is now much nicer and quieter, and without any maintenance.
We bought our RV thinking we could bring it home and put it on our driveway. It stayed that way for 2 weeks until I saw a guy in a unmarked car taking notes in front of our house. We got a notice the next week saying our Rv extended past the front wall of our house which is a violation. We had 3 days to move our Rv or face fines. So now, we have it in storage, but, this spring we are building our driveway backwards and moving our fence so that our Rv won’t extend past the front wall of our house
Because of tiny blocks in Perth (250-400 sqm) most vehicles extend past the property line. It only becomes a problem if u have a sidewalk (footpath) on the verge as u cannot park on a sidewalk.
Funny, why, why, why cannot put what belongs to you in rhe place you stay. Where do they expect you to put it??? So can put where you do not own, like what the homeless people who have RV are doing?
My jaw dropped watching you being handcuffed at the start of this video! I had never heard of an autoformer before. I do hate parking next to people with generators and their noise and air pollution. Excellent video. Thanks!
Good coverage, thanks for bringing them up so people know what to research. For the flashers in the rain, it's the law in Texas to put on your caution flashers whenever you are unable to maintain minimum speed on the highway (45 MPH), or are a hazard to traffic in some other way (having engine trouble and looking for a place to pull over safely). It does help when we get remnants of the most recent hurricane and drivers of the small, neutral color cars want to drive 20 MPH in the middle lane. (especially since motorcycle helmets usually don't have windshield wipers).
Seat belts, for the driver, keep you in your seat and in control of your vehicle during unexpected impact or rough driving conditions such as leaving the the pavement. It's probably the most important reason to wear one.
02:21 NEVER buy a house in a location which is controlled by a Home Owners Association. 15:40 Also, BEWARE. Some cities or counties ban certain dog breeds.
There's a woman in my co-op who owns an "emotional support animal"? (I have my doubts as to her authenticity of what ever she needs to dog for). I would love to see her take an RV trip and be told she couldn't bring her dog into certain areas. Be careful, she might try to report you and have you Proprietary lease on your RV revoked!
Most HOA's are great and help hold the value of your home bc ppl can't build in their carports & garages for sleeping! Or stop ppl from parking in their yards! Just read the HOA BEFORE BUYING...
@@sherkelly4533 Most people hate HOA. Why would you want your property value to go up unless you are planning to move? You are just paying more in insurance and property TAXES. Cities love it. And if you sell, few people want to buy a HOA house. If you like being ruled by Marxists, Venezuela might be a good place to go.
Generators make noise. 😡 Not pleasant to hear all day and sometimes when you are trying to sleep at night 😮. Solar is not that expensive. RV bigger the better 😢. Buy smaller and less expensive and add solar 😊

Ok Mercedes you almost made me spit out my coffee when it cut to "my safe word is chicken" . We always follow the rules about dogs and national parks which we hat the rule, but we get upset by how many people break the rule. We avoid California, even though we both grew up there in the 70's and 80's but the place has gone off the rails. John is right, once government has seized power they never give it back.
I grew up in California my parents moved us to Colorado. I finished school here then got married and I moved back to California because my husband was in graduate school. When he graduated we moved back to Colorado. I still miss California but I couldn’t afford to live there now and I don’t think it would be the same as it was 30-40hrs ago. Heck alot of my family still lives there and I don’t know how they do it!!
I hate the dog rule but I see why so many just leave poop all over the trails we've went to a few trails by royal gorge and it was nasty all you could smell was dog crap it was all over the trail and along the side most dont understand yeah its just one poop but if 100 ppl do it once then it's 100 turds also the tunnels we walked through smell of urine badly and you could see where the dogs peed so gross
One you didn't cover was taking firewood out of the area it was grown, even in the same state. Oregon firewood from the west is not allowed in the east or Washington and California. It kind of goes with boats in different lakes.
Thank you for your tips which I agrees with totally. I cooked breakfast and left my skillet on the stove to cool as we ate breakfast inside the RV. State Park Ranger warned us that it was against the park rules to leave cook pans outside. They checked us daily at breakfast and I figured out that they marked our stay tag. I use O2 machines at night running off my batteries, but must recharge them every day. I do have solar cells that can charge the batteries if it is not cloudy or covered with trees. These places I must run a generator. I have honda, so I tried my best to reduce noise. I only run the generator to charge the batteries and once charged, I turn them off. I don't run my generators to watch TV or play on my computer.
Most of the laws I knew because I drove a rig for 10 yrs. When I stopped driving I actually kept my class A endorsements (Texas resident) but dropped my CDL because I'm no longer commercial. Another law I found strange is not having the proper insurance for what you're driving. Different states have different insurance requirements. Great video guys
@@jofus3604 This is beginning to change (but varies by state). Some states have started allowing people who are NOT currently using their license commercially to self-certify as excepted and continue to hold their license without a DOT medical.
After about 2 million miles, I think. I retired and moved to a different state. Heard about some of the requirements and paperwork necessary, so I decided to drop the CDL A class because I'm never going to use it again.
I live in MD & worked in the trucking industry for 23 years. The thing with the tunnels is not just propane but you cannot bring any amount of any hazardous materials through them. They must not check too closely though for the propane. Years ago when I had a pop-up I forgot and drove through one of them without being stopped. Guess I got lucky. 😬
Hazardous Materials includes MANY, MANY items ... There are several, on EVERY vehicle that is on the road .... What the Federal Motor Safety Carrier Administration is concerned about, is HOW MUCH... For instance, when I drove a fuel tanker between Grand Junction and Denver CO .. we could not go through Eisenhower tunnel AT ALL. We had to use Loveland Pass. Then, when the pass was CLOSED, we had to wait for one of the 8 hour escorts. They stall traffic 4 am, 12 pm and 8pm and lead hazmat trucks through all at once at 35 mph.. both ways.
Those laws regulating the transport of propane, where I live, is for transporting propane cylinders in your pickup, not for installed propane systems in your RV. You might be worrying about something that doesn't apply to you.
@@pouglwaw5932 We had a 19' trailer in VA and had to stop at an inspection station to verify the valve was closed before entering a tunnel. Don't remember inspection stations when traveling in NY, NJ, etc nor in Canada. Some gas station in NY wanted to verify Valve status before you got gas (we had continuous pilot light back then). Upgraded to a 24' motorhome and still had to stop for LP inspection, more hassle because I needed to open the compartment vs exposed tanks on the trailer.
In Texas specifically the galveston ferry your not allowed to have a gas can on the ferry. I overland camp as well as RVing and was not allowed on the ferry when they saw my rotopax fuel can in the bed.
Don't worry about picking on Cali. They deserve it. A little note: Ever look into a 30 amp Inverter? Read the labels on your household and rv items. Some of them warn against use under a generator. The Inverter i use not only provides clean power, but also uses about half the fuel of my generator. The research is worth it
We rented our tent trailer out. It kept coming back with blown out tires. We told them to never exceed 55 MPH. We towed it for twelve years without a single blown tire. We spent more on replacement tires than we made on the rentals. Of course when we told them they had been speeding they got pissed.
My boss and her husband wanted to "rent" my new travel trailer. I politely declined. Why would I risk ANYONE destroying a new RV that is financed? They have two small boys who are hell on wheels and would surely break things. I've been approached by others to rent the rig also. The answer is a flat no. I can't imagine why anyone would think that renting a camper or RV is a good idea. There is simply too much risk and very few responsible and knowledgeable people. It's bad enough when RV owners are screwing up so badly and so often. Throw cousin Eddie and his family into the mix with a rental rig, and bad things WILL happen.
@@sleepycalico We had a 300 dollar security deposit. But that covered other damage as well. Some dumb ass unzipped every panel on the trailer. What a pain that was to zip back up. We just stopped renting it out. People were to stupid.
I remember the first few trips out in my RV and all the learning that took place plus I LOVED that RV and took great effort to care for it yet still made a couple of embarrassing mistakes...it was a learning process. Knowing how much there is to learn, and the cost and difficulty getting parts and repair...I would NEVER consider renting out an old or new RV! I would also NEVER buy an RV that was a rental.
I have to call you out on the double trailer towing. I have a F350 crew cab dually pulling a 30ft 5th wheel with a 19.5 ft boat behind it. I am always very aware of my driving and am always looking 3 steps ahead to make sure I don't get caught in a situation. California law is 75' pulling doubles, I'm 74 ft. I have been pulling doubles for 36 years and have never had any type of situation for concern. As long as you know your limits and capabilities and think smart, it is nothing different than just pulling one trailer.
Good video. Thanks. Fun with the Police helping out too. I plan to cross the US/Canada border a lot with two cats. I am a dual citizen and I have my firearms acquisition and possession license (PAL), but unless I change my residency to Canada, I won't be able to take restricted firearms (handguns, folding guns, short barreled guns) into Canada. What I paid attention to was the pet paperwork though. Thank you. And... it's bear spray not pepper spray; and it's an animal stun baton (19") not a stun gun; and my Randall is a utility / hunting knife. 😁 It's all in the name! Not certain I can get away with a three-edged letter opener though. 🤣
Been disabled since age fourteen in 1972, and now at age sixty-five, probably will have to give up driver's license and driving soon, but I did have a motor van in 1988 for five years. I watch these RV disaster videos for entertainment, my son at age forty will probably soon retire and live in one. Hope you don't mind that in my medicated, couch-filled days and nights, I chuckle and get many laughs from RV nightmares, crashes, stuck in snow and mud, you name it. We still can buy and use generators in California till 2028. We live in the National Forest Generators are a matter of survival in Grid down situations for most. Solar due to trees is not practical. It is going to get interesting in California for us. We are a very independent Freedom loving folks who moved away from people, and most have no use for Politicians. We are supporters of the movement to divide California. Would love to see State of Jefferson become reality.
Make sure we divide NY also. As for government.... it’s Sunday...I shouldn’t even be thinking what we should do to them!! Being from military service, and the Vietnam era... I have some dandy ideas!! Oh. God Bless and stay safe!
We wish Northern California the best of luck. Sacramento will never listen to the real people of California. I hear Texas is nice in the spring. See you all on the road.
Nobody in the US "owns" their land. That is why we have deeds of trust and pay property taxes to stay on said property instead of an alloidal title. It's true. research it. @@IShallNotBeSilent They _planned_ it a long time ago but it's a process still in motion. Sad that both parties have either rolled over or not even aware it's a thing.
Regarding boondocking, car camping, stealth camping, etc., look into the campground, hospitality, and camping industry lobbyists that have actually provided municipalities with boilerplate bills and help to put these laws on the books. It's sickening that we as a society end up losing rights and privileges due to greed. The mentioned issues need addressed but are often just excuses.
Don’t forget the 10 year old rule. Some RV Parks don’t allow RV’s that are older than 10 years old. They think that it will make the RV Park look trashy. Solution: Lie about it.
As a full time RV'er for the past 8 years, I was not aware of most of the laws that you discussed. So thank for the info. In some states there is a requirement that the tow chains must be crossed to prevent the tow bar from dropping if it fails for some reason. On a side note, if you two ever get to Las Vegas, I would suggest that you see about getting a booking at one of the casinos for a comedy act. You remind me of Gorge Burns and Grace Allen. You are such a hoot.
Great info guys! As usual, fun and informative. The snippets from the police station were a brilliant touch.! A good portion of the “laws” that you mentioned will not be a problem for people with common sense. Your video can definitely help to alleviate some of the NEGATIVE personal experience one may encounter if they choose to heed your warnings. 👍🏼
I’m glad you guys brought up the firearms issue, I’m for the 2A and have my CCW license issued from my state. I was told that you have to put ammo and gun in separate place, especially in anti gun states. Overall great advice to all of us rv owners.
Especially in Stalinist toilet holes such as Massachusetts, New York, Illinois, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware, California, and Hawaii though you can’t drive your RV out to there.
I totally agree with you on triple towing but when I was looking for vacant land to buy a lot of them mentioned no RVs and I finally bought 5 acres out away from everyone and I've been told now that they can enforce no RVs . I would love to see them try to tell me that I can't have my RV on 5 acres that I paid for
One of my annual R/V related expenses is a publication called "Traveler's Guide To The Firearms Laws Of The 50 States". It spells out everything you need to know state by state about legally traveling with a firearm, and is updated every year to the most current laws. As to weights, you need to know both the empty weight and the loaded weight (including full fresh water tank if equipped) of all your axles, whether you are towing your R/V or driving it. On a towable, you can easily overload the rear axle of your tow vehicle while simultaneously underloading your steering axle, which affects steering traction. Axle weight directly correlates to the amount of air pressure needed in the tires, even on dual tire setups. The more weight that is on a tire, the more air pressure it needs. Tires have maximum air pressure and weight ratings, which are stamped right on the side of each tire. Ideally, you should use four point weighing, where a scale is placed under each tire or set of tires. Without this knowledge, you can easily have more weight on one side of the rig, creating a potentially dangerous imbalance. A common fallacy amongst many R/V owners is that they believe the designers build in the storage spaces in a way that keeps a prospective owner from inadvertently overloading their R/V. That's a belief that will get you into trouble. Incorrect tire pressure is the number one cause of catastrophic blowouts on R/V rigs. If you don't know your weights, you're driving a ticking time bomb. As for R/V'ing in CA, it's on my permanent "No Go" list.
Great Video. A lot of crazy laws. We break some of them too but do our best to try and obey them. It's just very difficult when they don't make any sense and change so drastically from place to place. Mary 💕Fred
Super solid video, a lot of great info for us to think about. Agree that we all do things without malice, which can potentially get us in legal trouble. Great video.
Thank you for this! Very well presented. Besides breaking the law if overweight, we understand that our insurance coverage may be lost if it can be proven that our rig (truck/trailer combination) was overweight at the time an accident occurred. We weight EVERY TIME we go out. A truck scale weight certificate (gotta pay for it) with a date and time stamp can be very helpful.
OMG, John just got done being super serious about knowing fire arms laws when traveling and then you cut to Mercedes saying, "My safe word is chicken." LMAO OMG, I'm almost on the flloor laughing.
Another story. When we were going through Arizona, we were passed by someone pulling a travel trailer that looked to be about 30 feet. They had to be doing 80mph. The next thing we knew, there was debris flying all over the road. He had blown a tire and tore up his trailer pretty bad. Looked like one of his tanks ruptured too judging by the water leaking all over. Probably never thought about checking the speed rating on the tires.
Good point. I am from Arizona. Folks drive extremely fast in cars, trucks and RV’s in my state. I drive 65 max in my motor home, and RVs blow by me at 85. Crazy.
I've witnessed the same thing. A couple passed us in a new travel trailer doing about 75 mph. About 7 or 8 miles up the interstate, chunks of tire all over the road and they were pulled off to the side looking at their blown tire. I always set my cruise on 60 mph and never had a problem...knock on wood. Those tires aren't meant to be driven over 65 mph on most RV's.
My RV tire rating is 60 mph. For very brief periods on a gentle downhill, it may sneak up to 65, but otherwise I stick to the 60 max speed. On a cross country trip last year, I saw a lot of guys with their huge pickups driving their 35 ft TTs at speeds of 80 mph. I try to stay away from them.
My husband and I stay around 60- 65. And we use highways and avoid the Interstates when ever possible. Our Interstates are horrible for your rig. And guess what, a lot of insurance companies won't cover the damage to your rig from the interstates. Have a friend who is stuck trying to get her a new trailer after driving through Louisiana on I-20 and having her new trailer beat up and twisted and basically destroyed by the Interstate.
Great information! It's a good thing we did our homework before we began our relocation trip from AK to the hot, dry southwest for my health. We had 2 pets - a dog and an eclectus parrot. The dog needed a vet health certificate but the parrot needed a passport. Yes, just like ours but issued by fish & game, I believe. Our departure was delayed, nearly to the point where we would have to stay put for the winter with family. It took a lot of paperwork and time to get that document, and getting back into the U.S. would have been a huge issue. Parrots are considered exotics and smuggling them is a huge problem. Our baby was hatched in Anchorage, just a few miles from our home, and has never lived anywhere else. She was a great ambassador everywhere we traveled and her passport (and ours) is still valid. It is good for 10 years and has only been used once.😥 My traveling days seem to be over. Our feathered girl will be 20 in September and she will forever be a social charmer.
Triple tow has length requirements. If done correctly and with heavy enough tow vehicle no problem, this goes back to the weight limits. Fifth wheel to ball no problem.
I triple tow about 4,000 miles a year through OKC, Dallas, Austin and often on 8 lane highways, when necessary. You MUST have your head on a swivel and NOT out-tow your skill sets. I have several years a tractor-trailer driving experience that helps me understand when, where, how and why accidents happen. That’s doesn’t mean that I’m a better driver, it means I’m a better prepared driver and I have a better than average traffic sense that tells me a dangerous situation is about to unfold. Doesn’t make me Superman by any stretch of the imagination but it definitely helps.
Hey guys. I live in Canada and plan on traveling down there soon. Some of this stuff is good to know. But just remember, as hard as it is for you guys to cross into Canada, it's actually harder for us to cross into the US. As for the pet paperwork, that goes both ways. Also, I'm sure you know this, but traveling across borders (especially from Canada into the US) do not... and I mean do not have meat in your fridge or freezer. If they search you, it will be confiscated and you can receive a fine. Great video though guys, and I think John and I would get along pretty good as we seem to have a lot of the same opinions. I gre up with a dad that was a long haul truck driver for over 40 years. He never had a wreck and followed most of the rules. I have learned a lot from him. Does it make me a truck driver? NO! But does it make me a better, more responsible and highly aware driver? You're damn right it does! Hope to csmp down there and meet you guys some time. Keep up the great videos!
A few weeks ago, you sent a bunch of your geese through here. I am not convinced they had all their paperwork. However, when we send them back this spring, we won't bother with paperwork either. 🙂

Along with crossing state and county lines with a firearm, people should check the guidelines of going into or passing through a State /National Forests with a firearm
There was a older couple who lost their house to those Colorado "Marshall Fires" . They wanted to live in their RV until they could rebuild their house. The Marshall County Board has laws against that. The Board were going to meet to suspend those ordinances for the foreseeable future.
@@patrickcleveland8898 Well the communities must have had a real problem when hurricanes come through Florida and all those Gulf Coast States. There are 13 states that require a Non-CDL-A . The only way it can be a CDL is you have to have a physical tried to your license and if you are involved with commercial transportation. But training is great if you are willing to pay for it.
Traveled with a 24ft 5th wheel and a 21Ft Yamaha boat behind it for years. I guess I was dumb enough to not only try it, but did it put did it safely back and forth across this great country for years.
I also learned that you can't have a gas powered saw in state parks here in Kansas I wasn't even using it but had it out while cleaning out the camper and the ranger came over and told me, he was really cool about it though told me not to use it and keep it out of eye view
I loved the video and very informative. Thumbs up for the sheriff for helping out. But you two missed a big one that RVs break all the time. (Open container law) If you open a bottle of wine, tequila, whiskey, vodka or any other liquid that contains alcohol and you do not finish it and put it in a cabinet or refrigerator it is considered an open container. Or lets say you do finish the bottle off but just put it in the rv's trash container and take off down the road. You have a open container violation. That is a big fine and maybe jail. Please keep the info coming. It is such a great help.
So after doing a lot of searching web pages and talking with some police friends. It all totals to what state and city you are in. Most states they would be legal with an open container within the pulled camper. But not in the cab of the pulling vehicle. But some states allow for the non driver to drink but not the drive. I know this did not clear up the full question but like John said "do your research".
Per California Highway Patrol, everything behind the front seats in an RV is your “house”, and thereby exempt from open container laws, and a warrant is required for a search.
Another rule or two about dogs.. 9 states require dogs to be in a seat belt and most states do not allow wolf dogs. My dog is a shepherd/husky mix and his breeding is well documented. He is also a trained search dog with his canine good citizen. Many people assume this gentle, loving dog is a wolf. People who have wolf dogs should not rv.
Great information. Thank you 😊 I also completely agree in laws that are slowly but surely being taken and it's not just the politicians to blame but those that put them there in the first place 😡 Hope you had great holidays and let's pray 2022 is much better 🥰
Another thing about tires is usually if you check the tires on your brand new RV they are not rated to carry your RV. They are usually rated to carry less weight. It is best to replace them with a tire that is rated for more weight than you intend to haul. Get rid of those China Bombs
Fun and informative video. Probably easier to acquire a “projectile launching tool “ after crossing the southern boarder. It’s not “mooching” if you are invited to use the driveway. Thank you for sharing and have a great day.
I'm not sure what you're trying to say about "mooching". The definition of "mooch" is "ask for or obtain (something) without paying for it." Mooch-docking is the very poster-child for "mooching". If you're parking in your friend's driveway and not paying rent, even for a single night, you're mooching (getting something for free) while docking (parking while staying in it), thus "mooch-docking".
Just bought a hybrid camper, and been binge watching tons of videos. This is a great video! Luckily my town allows RVs (and campers) to be parked on the property. The only issue that they enforce is that all vehicles must have current registration. If it doesn't have current registration, it must be under a garage or carport. (Basically out of sight) California will definitely not be a state I'll visit. Probably won't be hitting up Canada or Mexico too. The USCCA can help with gun laws state to state. They have a map that can be downloaded showing Reciprocity states. Honestly, it won't hurt my feelings at all to avoid states (and Countries) that will not accept my Indiana permit. Didn't realize the rule about no pets in some National parks. That's a bummer. I kind of get that. Some people are not responsible enough to own pets. Another case of ruining it for everyone else. 🙄
Hey… I 💯 p get what you’re saying… but! Don’t deprive yourself of some of the most incredible wilderness in the country- California! It’s life changing in its beauty and serenity. Just stay out of the big cities or seriously affluent neighborhoods, and BE CLEAN- and I promise you you’ll have zero issues. But… The Sierras… Ojai…. Please don’t miss it!!
There is the Rand McNally Road Atlas that detail all kinds of laws by each state and it's very good tool to own. Truckers use the Motor Carrier's Road Atlas and the front has all the info about low bridges, weight restrictions etc. Invest in one for RVs and learn something that can save your butt.
Propane shut-off in tunnels is NOT universal! It is ONLY in seven Northeastern states. I was a Class A CDL driver and used propane on my reefer on a 54 foot trailer, so I know a lot more about it than an RVer. A little knowledge hath made thee mad. BTW, if you don't have full "T", "S" or "H" rated tires on your trailer, you've got "blems" or junk tires from an RV dealer that should be TRASHED and replaced! Trailer tires/RV MUST be replaced every 7 years REGARDLESS of treadwear or mileage because of sidewall aging. Californicate doesn't want tourists, so don't go there and spend your money! They deliberately have conflicting RV laws in adjacent counties and cities in order to fine people. There are 47 other states that welcome tourists in RVs. Tell the three to "Go pound sand!"
There is an RV parked next to my driveway, in my neighbors yard, and an RV across from my house at the other neighbor's yard. I have no left view of my street and my driveway is constantly obstructed by the neighbors across the street having to park their cars in the street. There are no laws in my neighborhood, restricting RVs, so it looks more like an RV park that a regular housing community. I'm in South MS by the way.
Go ahead and make fun of CA. Our governor is nuts. We sometimes have to use a generator at home when the power company cuts off power due to wind during fire season. No idea how long that will last. Once again, great tips.
nice review! Drones have to be registered with the FAA AND labeled! My rig is just under the weight limit for CDL in Texas. I drive at 63 mph, just UNDER the speed rating. Many people complain about "CHINA BOMBS".MOST tires are made in China. The "bomb" is holding the steering wheel. This has saved me from wrecks several times. I discovered that the RV dealer had sold me a 5th wheel with defective brakes. Good thing I upgraded the brakes on my tow vehicle (years of experience helps, too). I regularly get flown by with huge rigs going over the speed limit. Most places have lowered speed limits for people towing. I have never gone anywhere that moved away because I took too long to get get there! Van Horn, Texas has a law that prevents boondocking on the street, in any parking lot or bare land. Other places have the same rules. There are several RV parks there, however. Solar power does not work after dark but generators do. California just requested that people stop charging electric vehicles because the grid cannot meet the demand. One thing you did not cover. Some counties have laws that dump lines have to be "above grade". This means you have to have a rack to place it on. It has been over 50 years (last from cats in San Bernardino County 1962, dog 1947) since a case of rabies in humans has occurred from a dog or cat in the USA. It still happens in Mexico. Bats, skunks and foxes are the major sources of human rabies. Another reason not to let pets free roam in wilderness settings.
Great video. I am with John about laws on your property but I can understand folks that want to live in an area that you keep the guy next door from building a trash heap or pet mill that neglect the animals. Keep it up. My RV days ended this week. I am heartbroken. I worked two years building out a cargo van, and in the icy road a semi slid into me. I think it is totaled but waiting to hear. I will not do another build out and I had to buy what I could get. Vehicle shortage is very real. There is no way I can afford a truck or van with the prices the way they are. 3/4 ton truck $80,000 come on. So, I am done RVing. I will still watch, though. At least none of us was hurt. :)
I went with a small, low mileage '80's motorhome. It has everything I need to live, is easy to work on, 18 MPG, and I have a grand total of $4,000. invested. I highly recommend trying this approach, unless you NEED everything new.
Pulling doubles is not dangerous at all, (two trailers) your statement about weight is the key to it, but I’m a commercial driver that is trained to pull doubles. Training and practice and being licensed is the best way to be aware of the laws and skill set to do it safely
I was needed to help my elderly dad in NorCal And there was so many generators running all night in the neighborhood and in the country neighborhoods That I know of most were food trucks I don't know what else but any time I drove somewhere in the evening it was loud
Great video you guys. As previously mentioned, we’ve been RV’ ing since the mid 80’s. Broken a few of these rules , but actually knew all but never thought about the CDL laws across different states. I need to review these laws outside of my home state. Three comments: We never exceed the speed rating on our tires. Very dangerous. We learned the hard way about overloading our coach. It’s very easy to do and created serious coach damage for us. Third and last item- I am fine with drones unless you hover over my property. If it’s within buckshot range…..just kidding….?
If your in an RV with the combined length under 75 feet under federal law it is a personal vehicle and a CDL is not required. It is dependent upon the state of registration if you need a CDL.ost states don't require CDLs even with air brake motor coaches.
You lost me at double towing (triple towing). Here its called doubles and the first must be a 5th wheel RV. I have towed with this set up for quite a long time and never had any issues with sway like your trying to say. Our state allows 75ft bumper to bumper but also requires and extra set of chains to the far outside of the first trailer. Its a safe set up when done correctly.
Totall agree. We pull our 5th wheel and golf cart trailer almost anywhere we go. Just because some people cant handle doing it doesnt mean we are all in that catagory and i do not consider it stupid. pretty closed minded of you. But then again a lot of the things you menion range from irrelavant to simply not true.
Arizona Recreational Vehicle Operators: Drivers operating recreational vehicles (RV's) for their own non-commercial use can be exempted from CDL requirements.
Great video! Thank you for sharing all this great information. One thing that you didn’t touch on is that certain states require all pets to be in secure crates. Meaning that you can’t have your dogs, or cats, loose in the RV while traveling! I never really knew that. Not sure how they would enforce it. But different states have different laws in regards to that. Thanks again!
The cops will enforce it the way they enforce snooping in your vehicle, they’ll walk around look inside the windows and if they see anything ‘they’ determine as illegal then ‘we’ gave up the rights to let them snoop even further and under their suspicion unless we agree to let them they can hold us (against our will) until they can get a search warrant. That’s why when we go camping even in state the curtains to the camper are closed shut and tight
Motor coach vs school bus is a poor comparison. School buses have high back padded seats that compartmentalize the passengers. NHTSA has plenty of data on this . I'd still prefer they have at least lap belts. Completely separate is side seating. The human body can't handle lateral G forces very well so if your RV has side facing seats keep that in mind along with using seat belts.
1) RVing overweight 2) Can't park RV on own land 3) Not allowed to live in your RV 4) Triple towing 5) Crossing state, county, municipality with fire arm. Ammunition and fire arm may need separated. 6) Don't take fire arm across the border. 7) Don't drive through a tunnel with propane. 8) After school starts, some campgrounds won't allow kids die to truency. 9) Moochdocking vs Boondocking. State, county and city laws. Homeless control. 10) RV Park that charges for electricity; metor reader...not allowed. $5 fee is allowed. 11) Dumping grey water. Shower water is not black water. Some places do not allowed grey water dumping. 12) Driving without a CDL. Some places have requirements for size. 13) Driving without a seat belt. 14) 183 day rule. Work camp. If you live in one area beyond 6-months in one area; have to pay taxes. 15) National Parks don't always allow domestic animals. 16) Paperwork needed for pets when crossing borders; needs to be very recent records. 17) Don't feed the wildlife. 18) Drones can't be flown by a national park, military lands, etc. 19) No longer allowed to stay at Walmart. Cities make it illegal to stay. 20) Auto formers. Clean power. 21) Flashing brights in rain. Speed limit drops 10 mph when raining. 22) Generator use in California.
I bet you could go total solar and use your 50 amps you need and have clean power all the time for around 5k with today’s pricing if you build it yourself. Add a transfer switch for when you want to hook up to pole power. Also get an inverter that has a charger. There are a few great brands out there. You might also get a tax break if you qualify. Great Channel and very inspiring. The open road sounds amazing at 49yrs old. Stay blessed you guys!
Semi's can park at Walmart and believe me "they are no better than us"
Do something about the ugly discrimination against people who drive older RVs. It is hateful and bad RV parks reject good campers over it.
It is absurd that the dog needs loads of paperwork, but we have thousands of people in our country with no paperwork at all
An RV is considered an extension of your HOME/HOUSE, but certain entities prefer to violate the Constitutional rights.

My Dad was an opponent to wearing seatbelts for many years till a State Trooper told him that an important aspect of seatbelts is that it keeps the driver behind the wheel so that they can control the vehicle better, especially in a skid.

It’s awful.

Firewood was not mentioned.😮
If Florida doesn't allow four way flashers to be used, they are breaking the federal highway laws.
“BOONDOCKING” …is NOT staying overnight at a parking lot or such. Boondocking is camping in the wilderness all alone with ZERO hookups.
Seat belts, for the driver, keep you in your seat and in control of your vehicle during unexpected impact or rough driving conditions such as leaving the the pavement. It's probably the most important reason to wear one.

Your insurance only has to comply with the state you live in.
@@jofus3604 This is beginning to change (but varies by state). Some states have started allowing people who are NOT currently using their license commercially to self-certify as excepted and continue to hold their license without a DOT medical.

Crazy Wayne
The research is worth it
you are correct on all your points! Especially the government we have now! God bless
For me, if I had that experience twice, I would need a security deposit for new tires before letting it out again.

Agreed... Most peeps aren't like you, Vince...
Good video. Thank you. We still can buy and use generators in California till 2028. We live in the National Forest Generators are a matter of survival in Grid down situations for most. Solar due to trees is not practical.
Thank you Charles 😀👍❤️
Crossing the chains is law in every state.

My refrigerator runs on propane while we are traveling so we can't turn it off. That said, you taught us so much! Thank you❣
I’m glad you guys brought up the firearms issue, I’m for the 2A and have my CCW license issued from my state.
WHY would anyone EVER go to an ANTI gun state. there are plenty of states that allow people to be FREE.
My opinion is an RV is considered a home, not a vehicle. IrS considers them homes. Don't let cops into your home without a warrant
I totally agree with you on triple towing but when I was looking for vacant land to buy a lot of them mentioned no RVs and I finally bought 5 acres out away from everyone and I've been told now that they can enforce no RVs . I would love to see them try to tell me that I can't have my RV on 5 acres that I paid for
I'll write you in jail...
righteousness never won a legal battle.
Slavery at one point was legal. Just because it’s illegal doesn’t mean it’s right!!!
@@watchmanonthewall14 That's the number 1 reason they get blowouts on their RV's. Me, I'm cruising at 60 mph.
Nothing wrong with picking on California. They've earned it with their heavy fines and crazy laws.

Every day I’m grateful to live in California. My very worst nightmare would be living in the Lone Star state.

@@patrickcleveland8898 Well the communities must have had a real problem when hurricanes come through Florida and all those Gulf Coast States. I went with our Church mission group when Hurricane Katrina hit. There was nothing left of those homes and FEMA brought in all those trailers. I guess those good laws are suspended.
Great point! We don’t drink so didn’t think about it. Thank you for pointing it out Richard😀👍
Does that apply to travel trailers/5th wheels? I can see that point if it's a motor home or in the vehicle pulling the trailer.
@@immasher2139 I do not know how it would apply to trailers and 5th wheels. But will find out and post here.

(Basically out of sight)
California will definitely not be a state I'll visit. Probably won't be hitting up Canada or Mexico too.
The USCCA can help with gun laws state to state. They have a map that can be downloaded showing Reciprocity states. Honestly, it won't hurt my feelings at all to avoid states (and Countries) that will not accept my Indiana permit.

wow I didn't know about the propane and tunnels! Thank you for the update 😎 totally agree on the training for a large rig!
Happy to help Michelle 😀
I retired, sold my home and moved into a truck camper. Maine does not allow using an RV as a home so I had to re-register in South Dakota.
I was needed to help my elderly dad in NorCal
And there was so many generators running all night in the neighborhood and in the country neighborhoods
That I know of most were food trucks
I don't know what else but any time I drove somewhere in the evening it was loud
Great video you guys. As previously mentioned, we’ve been RV’ ing since the mid 80’s. Broken a few of these rules , but actually knew all but never thought about the CDL laws across different states. I need to review these laws outside of my home state.
Three comments:
We never exceed the speed rating on our tires. Very dangerous.
We learned the hard way about overloading our coach. It’s very easy to do and created serious coach damage for us.
Third and last item- I am fine with drones unless you hover over my property. If it’s within buckshot range…..just kidding….?
😂🤣
You don't need a CDL if your home state doesn't require it. Also the federal law is 26,001lb and over.
@@duckwacker8720 thank you. Yes, after seeing the video I did some checking. Arizona and most states are at the 26,000 limit. Thanks for your input.
If your in an RV with the combined length under 75 feet under federal law it is a personal vehicle and a CDL is not required. It is dependent upon the state of registration if you need a CDL.ost states don't require CDLs even with air brake motor coaches.
@@duckwacker8720 unless your a RV then it falls under personal property. Some big coaches weight 32,000
I like the way you think, John. The government is way out of control, brother.
🙏❤️
You lost me at double towing (triple towing). Here its called doubles and the first must be a 5th wheel RV. I have towed with this set up for quite a long time and never had any issues with sway like your trying to say. Our state allows 75ft bumper to bumper but also requires and extra set of chains to the far outside of the first trailer. Its a safe set up when done correctly.
It's not triple towing, it's called pulling doubles. Just like with semis pulling two trailers.
AS Racing the 75 foot combined vehicle length is federal law.
I agree with you. I have pulled doubles all over the western states including CA for thousands of miles without an issue.
Arizona Recreational Vehicle Operators:
Drivers operating recreational vehicles (RV's) for their own non-commercial use can be exempted from CDL requirements.
Wow, so many different laws. Mind boggling. Thank you for always keeping us informed.
Thank you Diana 😀
I'm 50/50 on the motor home seat belt law, especially when alot of School busses don't have seat belts!
P.S. I agree with you on the Politicians, I think that is why we need term limits. It wasn't intended to be a career!
I'm with you!
I am with Trevor just to clarify!
Trevor…..apples and oranges. But our school buses do need seat belts. Politician failure. Damned politicians!
1) RVing overweight
2) Can't park RV on own land
3) Not allowed to live in your RV

Loved the useful info guys and got a huge kick over your “arrest”. You two are such an entertaining blessing! 👏👏👏👏👍👍👍✝️
Hi Carol 🙏❤️🇺🇸
