For the symbols and heraldry, I really like the idea of it being covered in warding symbols. The Dark Mechanicum may have stuck an Abominable Intelligence to a Knight frame, but they want to be absolutely sure that it's under their control, and have done everything they can to make sure that it doesn't break free. Does lend itself to some possible fun Evangelion-esque beserker 'breaking free' moments in the lore too.
The Spindle Drones being protectors of the Blackstone Fortresses, several of which have been in chaos hands, could bring in the fun lore of this Spindle Drone having been corrupted by chaos before it was ever stuck onto the knight. As such having the Spindle Drone come up with its own heraldry in a mockery of the imperial houses sounds like a way cooler approach than just slapping on warding symbols.
For the heraldry maybe make hexagon patterns. This way it honors the blackstone fortress tiles and also the shape of the shield that the drone gives off.
Don't own an airbrush but that wool effect of almost leaving lightning scarring is so damn cool I might have to finally make the jump to getting one, trying to build up a Imperial knight army and the idea of them basically being giant lightning rods on a storm ridden world just sounds too good to be true.
I like the idea of an eye with a syringe instead of a vertically dilated pupil like the sons of horus have, tying it in with the 'augmented' feel of the model.
That is one of the coolest models I've seen!! I'm such a sucker for things that resemble huge robots / animatronics, and the open back, claw, and cords/wires were so satisfying! I really love how you gradient with the stippling/feathering (excuse my poor terminology) you completely transformed that grey piece in a way that had me pause to just look and admire it! Also, your free hand is insane! This was an insanely cool paint job! Amazing job, Dave! Also, I just love the time cards on the bottom of the video. Theyre so fun!

That base is art! No idea about heraldry, but I love how you kept the "add-ons" clearly visible by keeping them close to their own, original paint schemes. Regardless of what Jen says: I want to see those other big ones!
As an idea for symbols and heraldry, you could use the chain heraldry of your traitor guard and every couple of links add a teal line over one of the chains or paint it in teal. This would tie it in to the rest of your traitor forces, as well as giving a subtle yet respectful nod to their Alpha Legion allies/patrons/battle buddies. The chain markings could also act as a disguise for the warding symbols, which in themselves could be a disguise for binary code, with the chains as zeros and the teal lines as ones. Or you could use a real/physical chain and paint every other link teal and attach icons and battle trophies along it, using astarte's shoulder pads from different chapters or heraldry from different knight houses it has defeated over the millennia.

I think making some runes that look like veins wrapping around some panels would look cool. Like a mixture of the mechanicum preventing the spindle drone from completely taking over the knight
I think caution/ hazard stripes of the armored tips of the claw . And maybe some of the panels have the camouflage glowing cloak pattern from the eliminators; but instead of it being a texture or background color have it be a mix of spindle drone esthetics and Sakura Sept markings . To tie in the 2 main Ai/ tech that now run the construct

It could be possible to combine the warding symbols and heraldry together. The story could be that in the beginning the knight was decorated with heraldic pride but after years of the drone being installed, the heraldry started to morph to fit the drone's personal taste (i.e. the wards themselves). So, some symbols would represent the house while others would show signs of radically shifting or altering their appearance as a result of the drone's corrupting influence.
For the symbols and heraldry, yes. Do it mostly warding symbols with some requested ones that has been mathed to increase the efficiency of the daemon engine
I'd say the drone asking for stuff to be painted onto it, in my opinion that gives it a more intense heretical aura then wardings, because is the whole point of the dark Mechanicus doing what Admech Won't?
For the symbols it would be really cool if there was just some eldritch scribblings on there, like an AI that learned everything that it could and it went mad itself. They could be more subtle but I think AI, and dark mech would be more into the eldritch ramblings. The knight looks awesome and I can't wait to see what you do with it!
Super excited to see Murray`s tyrranids in the near future, it will be amazing to see. Also, I'd be over the moon to see two knights accompany that heretical beauty. When it comes to sigils, maybe the heretical dark mechanicum has embraced the intelligence in the titan as an embodiement of the machine god and started covering it in wards at it's request? They could be misinterpreting orders to set it free, or maybe the spindle drone is covering itself in markings to signal to other drones that is is among them, as a form of self identification. Definitely lean into the xenotech for those markings for that extra heretical touch!
I'm thinking both warding sigils to contain the abominable intelligence, but also prayers and markings celebrating it, appeasements to keep their war machine happy.
Great work! The sentient AI has taken over the machine spirit AND a Tau AI. I have three suggestions for it's heraldry: 1. Some perverted "Greater Good" Symbol, because the data indicates this "swarm" the Tau thing tries to reconnect to. 2. A creepy crawling beast as a "parasite" 3. A breaking egg, for the AI is in some new shell of sorts ... some servitors would easily been controlled to do the spraying ... 😊
Okay, Dave, hear me out: You don't know wether Warding symbols or personal heraldry us appropriate? BOTH. Markings keep appearing on the Knight, markings that the Dark Mechanicum do not know and did not apply themselves. In an effort to curtail whatever is causing these markings to appear, the Magi in charge of keeping this Knight in check have begun to apply Sorcerous Wards to the armour. It has slowed the appearance of the markings down, but it has not stopped them entirely...
Heraldry: What about something organic? Like some kind of technovirus kind of thing from The Warp that has ebbed its way like a skin infection up along it? Make it like a circuit board pattern, or something else though so it is a blend of heraldry and Warp-organic nastiness.
Could we please see all of your armies all lined up? With all the models you've painted over the last few years? The Sakura Tau, Sisters of battle, mud lads and such? Please? 🙂
i know its been 11 days but: Alpha Legion Hydra some where on the Knight would be pretty great even if its peeking out from some other bit of hearldry, also maybe kill markers of Knight heads or something ?
The conversion work on this knight is so cool that the awesomeness that is the basing may go unremarked upon for most of its life, so I just wanted to point out how cool that is, and inform you that I'm stealing the idea. For heraldry, Dark Mechanicum and stuff from the Blackstone Fortress would be cool. Stuff to a Chaos god, or chaos undivided seems like it would be weird, and wouldn't quite fit.

It's kinda fitting for the Dark Mechanicum to integrate one of those REALLY ancient monstrosities into a knight.

for the symbols i reckon a mix of warding and maybe a spindle drone head with the house swords as sort of legs
Maybe some glowing hieroglyphic green cymbals on the red and the Head of the knight is coding itself into the body of the knight
