What an absolutely darling British-American musical film that can be enjoyed for all ages. David Niven is so wonderful and the incomparable Vera-Ellen was divine. Cesar Romero did a stellar job and the plot is so brilliantly witty. The musical numbers are stunning and Vera-Ellen demonstrates why she was one of Golden Age Hollywood's best dancers. This was a terrific film that temporarily lifted my mother out of the depths of dementia. Thank you so much for sharing.
The film may be 72 years old but it made me chuckle out loud with its witty script beautifully delivered by the ever charming and skilled Niven who always makes everything look so effortless. Quaint, gentle and warming. A young Gordon Jackson and many others giving it an authentic Scottish flavour, even had Cesar Romero in a kilt, a nice touch. Really enjoyed it, thanks for uploading. (p.s. the advert interruptions were truly annoying particularly when it's such a nice film). 🧐😉
Yes I agree a really lovely film to take you away from the world of today. Unfortunately, like you, I found the adverts, reminding us of the modern world, very distracting and disturbs the ability to truly get away from it all for one and a half hours! ☹️😖
Everytime I turn on this movie, it calms me down and brings me joy! I want to fond more cute romance movies like this one. I can't seem to get enough of this one, especially for me, it's is love at first sight. Like their relationship is
Highly recommended for all ages. A very charming and feel-good movie. These actors from the golden era are amazing dancers and singers. They seem weightless and the moves are so fluid. It takes enormous amount of time and discipline to make a performance seem effortless.
I agree, this is totally delightful, and I've never heard of it! David Niven's beloved Primmie had been dead for 5 years and he was newly and disastrously wed to Hjordis. But, he was so wonderful at light comedy, you'd never know what he was living through privately.
What a wonderful,.. musical love story for the times we are living in right now....One melts into the picture with actor that can act....Hope in the near future we will be saying Happily ever after, too Worth The Watch.
I found comedy movies (classic) wonderful. In this film, I like some lines; one is "Mr. Dodds, has it ever occurred to you that this office lacks something? No, Mr. Bruno. ....It lacks charm ....." I think that Mr. Bruno, not as a millionaire, meets and loves a chorus girl as mutual sweetheart, who is to show really hard dancing. This "coincident" love, as he comments in the film, surely makes charm. Thanks for sharing.
It was my childhood favorite, 30 years ago. We recorded it on videotape and I watched it many times. I decided then that I would become a tap dancer. Of course I didn't. :) I searched a lot before I finally found it. Thanks for letting me see you here!
This is great, musical who has everything( cast, music, humor, story, customes) !!! This is what i like to relax and forget reality !!! Thank you ❤❤❤😂😂😂😊😊😊 !!! L.M.
Great romantic musical. Love Vera Ellen and David Niven. He was so versatile in his acting, and he played does wonderful scenes, whether it would be drama, musical, war. I
SMILE is a charm! After the "interview," they converse; "I didn’t write this then who did? ... You swear it wasn’t you? I swear. ..... Oh I’m so glad I couldn’t believe you’d do a thing like that. Couldn’t you? Well no I thought you were rather nice That’s a coincidence. " Janet first looks frowned, posting the paper to Paul, but finally looks much younger. I found her smiling make her charming. It is Anti-Aging. Additionally, David Niven is the very player. はまり役ですね。TKS again.
Blimey. The interconnectedness. The Guns Of Navarone / 55 Days In Peking / The Bishop's Wife meets White Christmas / On The Town. meets The Joker / Captain From Castile. Actors I've been watching for 50 years appearing in something I didn't know about until today.
Associated British was so enamored of Vera-Ellen hoofing with pipe bands in Bonny Scotland that they did it all over again six years later in 'Let's Be Happy'. Again she had a non-musical Scottish co-star (Robert Flemyng instead of David Niven) but an American male. Cesar Romero, always pungent, puts more zing into the earlier film than Tony Martin, and the great Val Guest supplies a sharper script. Vera-Ellen, between 'Three Little Words' and 'White Christmas', is not worked to the max as she would have been in Hollywood, but her versatility shines through. Niven coasts on charm, as he so often did after his Scottish disaster as Korda's Prince Charlie three years earlier. His fans must have wondered when he would make his entrance; it took almost half an hour.
We watched it last Night! *DVD* Absolutely Mind Blown Dancers & Actors. Ceaser Romero, David Niven's, & The Gorgeous SUPER STAR DANCER ★*VERA ELLEN*★ Truly miss them it's like i'm Haunted by there Greatness!
Nice comedy & music! David Niven's sensibility! Multiple artist Vera-Allen - also with a best portrait of a ballerina! And the piano man hairstyle @ 8:59
must must watch..its an absolute jem.....hilarious script...don't usually watch second rate old musicals , but ,fortunately ,not much dancing....anyway , the story line is up there with the very best ....enjoy ! cheers
Really lovely old film, supposedly to take us away from the not-so-nice world of today. Why then do you have sooo many adverts to interrupt the film, so we can’t even escape the modern world for one and a half hours? 😢
Vera Ellen was my best dancer in the Times. I'm gonna do a music video tribute to the Great Vera Ellen, Ceaser Romero, Called (FILL UP THOSE SHOES) Released This Week! This Movie Inspired me, got the Video VHS by Chance from the 2nd hand shop in the year 2002 & gee can she Dance the Speed & with Ease..Beautiful! Truly Missed i'm a Big Fan of Vera Ellen Still to this Day.
My little sister was adorably chubby as a toddler, but by the time she was old enough to talk, she was utterly convinced that she had “Judy legs” like Vera Ellen in White Christmas 🤣.
I wonder if I went to see this with my family's au pair, Rena, when I was too young to remember. I wish they would restore this to peak Technicolor glory. This could never be made now, they'd just look up a photo of B. G. Bruno on their phones. Back in those far off days of 1951, he could get away with passing himself off as..... himself.
I love this film for the Piccadilly Circus dance sequence near the end. The choreography is stunning and the dancing so good. Especially the boy in the red jerkin dancing with her. Who was he?
At 2:00 John Laurie, the faithful soldier-servant of Colonel Blimp, the greedy farmer of 'The Thirty-Nine Steps', the Scottish officer in Olivier's 'Henry V'... and eventually renowned as the gloomy funeral director in Britain's most celebrated sitcom, 'Dad's Army'. When Holden Caulfield recalls the crofter asking Robert Donat 'Can ye eat the herring?'... that's Laurie.

Yes, absolutely darling is the best way to describe this charming little picture. It has often uplifted my spirits too. ❤

The scene with Niven disciplining the chauffeur where he keeps "switching gears" is done so perfectly!

Their English and their pronunciation.....💕 These make one feel good about all the old 🍿🎥movies 😊

Anyone who can stand on her toes like she does is a bonifide ballerina in my book! Simply marvelous 💃
Thank you very much for this movie. I love Vera Ellen and I didn't even know this movie existed!
David Nivens is the best in every movie. What a delightful fun movie. Thanks for sharing it!
Super fun & funny flick! Great dancing to. David Niven is always tops!
