I appreciate the woodsy, camping aesthetic of this video; it's achingly beautiful. I also appreciate your enthusiasm about this thoughtful, engaging and fun game that will connect me with the ones I love while going off grid and all mod cons when camping. The fact that you did it in the rain was perfection; we play the hand we're dealt. the fact that you showed the play on a mossy stump - swoon. thanks just doesn't seem adequate.
Been playing it for 3 days with my 6 year old son. I've never seen him so focused and while I've been helping him win atleast 50% of the time, he's starting to form real strategy. It's an amazing game that seems to grow with you.
Thats so cool! My favorite way to play with less experienced players is by making up crazy strategies and see how they pan out. Like “Only ladybugs and pillbugs” or “all grasshoppers and spiders”. Makes for some really silly games and lets them catch on while you are messing around!
Every review of Hive seems so positive. I just bought the pocket edition with the pill bug expansion on the way, I’m excited to learn the game and share it with others!
I think a rainy day is the best weather to promote the game, because it brings it to the point that no matter what the wearther or where you are it's perfectly playable
Great stuff! I've been marginally interested in Hive for a while now, but you really sold me on the concept here. Also, great job editing and shooting this!
I suck at playing board and card games as the instructions are always too complex for my distracted mind.. I only understand Sequence.. but this hive mind has me curious
This video was amazing! The best and most interesting and yes beautiful review of this game. You've sold me on the pocket version! I love the outdoor rainy theme of this video. I am so glad you only ever got rainy days :) Subscribed!
Seen this game around, but this video actually managed to make me excited and want to snag a copy. Also, that location is *gorgeous*, my guess is that it's Washington state out on the peninsula or British Columbia, anyone know?
Hive is my longest running board game obsession, I might even go so far as to call it my favourite game. I got it for my birthday like8 or so years ago and have been playing constantly
This video is amazing; it was informative and very atmospheric. I have been looking into Hive for a few hours now, it looks absolutely awesome. Thanks for the video :)
Hey man, we shared application videos on twitter. Love your chill video style, the outdoors rainy forest setting and the background music add a lot to the vibe. Great work.
Just found your channel because I was looking for reviews of this game (can't decide between this and Hive Carbon)... and wow, I really really loved your review. I watched it like 3 times, the production and style was awesome. And your idea of showing us different games with different approaches is great. Definitively I'm going to have now this channel on my radar ~ Also on 2:24, you could do a ASRM video with game tiles in that forest... I definitely would watch it haha ~
Hey thank you so much for the kind words! If you travel at all, even if its tiny trips get Hive Pocket. It is cheaper, gorgeous, and I adore the tiles, I think they are the perfect size. If you have a chess table and want to leave it out, get Carbon. It is a much bigger footprint that looks incredible on a table. Also, multiple people have told me that my Scythe review is Board Game ASMR so apparently I should lean in to it.
cool video man! I just bought hive and I must say it would also be super-easy to build your own game, with little hexagons of wood and a sharpie. Pretty cool stuff.
JazzFlight This was basically the intention hahaha! Wanted to show you that Hive can take it, however I did lose a queen bee in the water for a little while... c:!
The Hive Pocket can be played on a smaller surface than the standard size Hive. I can squeeze it into a loaded backpack. It's always in my backpack now. I recreate games I've played on the mobile game. Once you know the pieces, you can remember their moves much like chess. I didn't hesitate to get the pillbug as it already had the first two expansions.
I watched this on my phone and now want to watch it on a big screen tv. I wish you created all the content I watch online. I’d watch even if you did a dishwasher review.
Though I already knew everything you said. It was such a joy to watch your excitement explaining how awesome Hive is (specifically Pocket version). This was one of my first acquisitions into my board game collection, and an insta classic.
Cool production, I had honestly sworn off Hive for being too chess like for my taste, but I think you've talked me into giving it another go. How do you like the deluxe Hanabi with the tiles? I literally had it with me when my brother, myself and our girlfreinds got caught in a bit of snow and rain and ended up playing it while we dried off in a pub. I think that shows the same kinda magic as you describe from Hive Pocket.
Yes that is exactly the kind of situation that I love games like this for. I saw Hanabi Deluxe in stores but didn't have enough change for that hulk of stone haha. Will have to get it eventually though!
You are so right.... Hive is perfect for a rainy day! I loved this review... it highlights many things that make this game a classic: portability, durability, replayability, teachability, (are those last two real words?). It seems that no two games are ever alike. If you want to learn more, check out the Facebook Group and Discord Server, both named, Hive - The Boardless Game If you want to play online check out www.BoardSpace.net and www.BoardGameArena and if you want to become a better player watch this channel: www.RUclips.com/PlayHiveLikeAChampion
You've gained a sub. The game? Meh. Might try it, probs won't. But not for your trying to sell it. But the vlogging and presentation and conception... top fucking notch. Keep at it, lad, you got some fun talent going.

Thats cool. I play my 7yr old nephew and would ask him questions about why i made certian moves and he gets it.
My 4 year old daughter has really come to like this game. We are playing it daily now. She is actually starting to get decent.
This video is the one that sold me on Hive ... Now I just gotta find someone to play it with!
I love this video! I think my favorite part is you showing the game mechanics on a moss covered tree stump.
I have seen enough videos on plain wooden tables with fluorescent lighting haha.
@@ClayDoghs I totally agree, it was actually beautiful! And well explained!
Every review of Hive seems so positive. I just bought the pocket edition with the pill bug expansion on the way, I’m excited to learn the game and share it with others!
It is really lovely, enjoy!
I think a rainy day is the best weather to promote the game, because it brings it to the point that no matter what the wearther or where you are it's perfectly playable
Agreed!
I like your style man. This game has become one of my favorites. I always have mine in my backpack
It is a wonderful backpack game, thanks for watching!
Great stuff! I've been marginally interested in Hive for a while now, but you really sold me on the concept here.
Also, great job editing and shooting this!
Thank you! Its a great once, and Hive pocket is cheap enough to pick up on a whim.
“Don’t be afraid to get your games muddy” hahaha I like that quote
I suck at playing board and card games as the instructions are always too complex for my distracted mind.. I only understand Sequence.. but this hive mind has me curious
This is one of the best Hive intro video I've seen. Great video about a fantastic game. It''s really a very cool abstract game.
the only thing i hate is . that spiders should have the ability of the beatles . cause.... they climb....
My first thought was that they could stick other pieces to them.
Your editing style is amazing
1up Youre amazing!
Literally sitting at a coffee shop playing HIVE right now.
@@ClayDoghs I just played it yesterday for the first time and I loved it. It is so much fun!

You had me hooked when I saw the doggo! I like your style!
tvdavis She is my pride and joy, and usually not so muddy.

Upstate New York has some beautiful forests, especially in the rain ;) My favorite place on earth.
@@ClayDoghs I frequent Tannersville (near hunter mountain). Some beautiful places for sure! I can't wait to take this game there!

Great video man. Super chilled and really well narrated. You've triggered a purchase!
Also, nice pack! I work for Osprey in Europe :D
The Osprey has been so wonderful for me, you represent some great products! Enjoy hive, and thanks for watching!
love this video. subscribed to hopefully see more videos in this style.
2:19 Best game table ever!
Such a great review. I can hardly remember a better one.

Zoe of the Stars Sure would, but the Hive pieces are like super good quality regardless :) Glad you are enjoying it!
Hahaha, when you dropped the pieces through the bridge planks I audibly gasped. I'm too protective of board game components, lol.

We need more reviews from you, bud.
Nice review man! Enjoy your conversational style and the camerawork/setting were both great
Matthew Halowell Thank you! The setting was easy, thats my favorite place on earth~
Loved the vid man! keep it up. Im pumped to pick up a copy
I will have to look out for this game. Great video!
I bought Hive the other day because of this video! So excited to play it. Just need to find someone who will play it with me lol
Awesome video! I have the original, can't find pocket in my country sadly. But I agree with everything you've said!
I watched this on my phone and now want to watch it on a big screen tv. I wish you created all the content I watch online. I’d watch even if you did a dishwasher review.
Juvi Goat Hahahaha oh lordy. Well that is a big compliment, I have a new video in the works, I apologize but it is not a dishwasher review.
Lovely review :)
Haha he said Versa-tile ;P
Dude I love your videos. Hope all is well with you.
