- The Lady of the Lake is a well known figure from Arthurian Mythology, a fairy enchantress, who bestows the magical sword Excalibur upon King Arthur.
However, this later goddess of chivalric romance is based in part on earlier faery stories and folklore from the Celtic speaking world.
In this folk tale from the Brecon Beacons in Wales, the fey spirit of a magical lake (Llan y fan Fach) agrees to marry a farm boy, on one condition....
In truth there are many 'Lady of the Lake' type folktales from Britain and Ireland which prefigure the legends of King Arthur.
Many of these may contain the Iron Age Celtic belief in animism and spirits of rivers, lakes, springs and bogs, as attested in the numerous votive offerings found in such places. Lakes are gateways to the otherworld.

Loving these tales 💛
I absolutely love that you are able to show the exact lake and rock which is the setting of this folktale. The sense of place ads such a wonderful dimension to the story. Thank you for another great story.
Glad you enjoyed it Michele 🧚🏻♂️🙏😊
such a cool story
We know through quantum science that the universe yearns to realize its possibilities...so we are just starting to remember what our ancestors knew. You are helping us to remember🌌
Love this ✨
I like how you bring stories together and pick out what IS.
Thanks for these words ✨🙏☺️
Must've been one helluva cheese sandwich if the fairy lady wanted to get married for it

Lady Fifian or Viviane in English.
Wonderful retelling of a legendary tail.
Thank you 🙏 ✨ 🧚🏻
Hi, Welshman writing. I grew up near the lake in question, which is located near the head of the Swansea Valley close to Brecon. I love the presentation and video footage of the lake in this video, but I would like to gently point out that the lake is called Llyn, not Llan, y fan. Llyn means lake, whereas Llan means a sacred enclosure such as you get around a church. About 80 places in Wales are called Llan-something, usually the name of a Welsh saint from the 7th century, eg Llandaff, Llandeilo, Llanpumpsaint (the enclosure around the church of five saints).
Ah. Thanks for that. That’s a school boy error right there 😂
Llyn. Not Llan.
Always looking for more opportunities to improve my Welsh, and always appreciate the local knowledge, it’s a beautiful part of the country.
Diolch 🙏 🏴
Love your interpretation of this story
Cheers 🙏
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thanks for the trip
That’s the next video 😀 😂 thanks for watching 🙏😊
Oh, she is my girl 😂
A seminary in Chicago misappropriated the name.
Not sure I understand, but thanks for dropping in 🙏☺️
Did anyone else think of Norm MacDonald as Oliver sat in his van offering an imaginary cheese sandwich?
😂
I don't know if I could trust somebody who did like cheese, no matter how magical and naked she is.
What, not even a nice piece of cheddar? You cheese heretic! 😂
@@TheStoryCrow I like my cheese like I like my knives, extra sharp lol.
Also this supports the hollow Earth theory which is inhabited just as the surface Earth but with a more advanced civilization. At 6:16 "lights began to emerge from the water" what might be a submersible craft of some sort. Many have reported seeing crafts landing in water and lakes so that could also associate with the UFOlogy.
A lot in folklore could support this theory if you’re that way inclined. Other worlds in caves. Chthonic entities etc 🤔
Did he bring her a cheeseburger?
I hear that’s the way to any supernatural entities heart 🍔
he talks softly so i put volume to max then he shouts in the middle so i lower the volume then he whisper again :( please fix volume mixing i really enjoy the stories
Sorry about that 😂 I’ll think about that in the edit next time. Thanks for stopping by for stories 😊
