- It's time to go on a journey to the top of a mountain in the heart of Ireland where Carrowkeel Passage Tombs were constructed some 5000 years ago. On the way I'll recount the tale of two young lovers and how their lives were forever changed by an encounter with the Fairy King.

As a 60 year old who left Ireland as a small child for England and then left England for Australia as a 10 year old and who has never been back. Your YT channel has caused me to consider returning for good, something my late parents wanted to do but it never happened for them. I have done well in Australia and could return and live a good life. I am considering this option. Thank you so much for showing my birthplace that is a world away for me at this time.
Daniel, you've just done more for tourism in 🇮🇪 Ireland in this amazingly sensitively filmed piece than the tourists board did in the last 30 yrs, l think they owe you Dan, & if RTE or Virgin don't contact you to do you're weekly series at Mossy Bottom they need their heads examined, loved the soundtrack ❤
Amen!
Kate Well More the northwest of ireland, the rest of ireland gets plenty of tourism, whereas this part of ireland is often driven past on the way to giants causeway or they don't come at all
@@ezicarus8216 RTE would ruin it.
@@Celticspy911 l agree in principle, however all they need to do is show up with a camera, and Dan could call all the shots, bcz he clearly knows about editing & could direct it fully, he even does his own Credits & "Take outs" they could keep the way he produces it, & there's always Virgin,

For anyone non Irish who wants to know more Irish mythology and fairy stories, look up eddie lenihan, he's a seanchai and tells stories that most Irish would have never heard.
Hiking in wellies, you've truly become Irish!
Haha. I learnt long ago that in Ireland hiking boots are just a way to get wet feet. Wellies all the way! :)
@@MossyBottom I've found that foam insoles, meant for shoes, work better than extra socks to keep feet warm in wet wellies.
Jon in rural BC, Canada
But aren’t they terribly uncomfortable ???
I think over the years my feet have moulded to the wellies. I wear them just about all day every day. :)
@@MossyBottom LOL! I am new to England so perhaps that’s why my feet only sweat and slide around and feel very uncomfortable or sometimes freezing cold in wellies!
I don't normally comment on Y.T. but I fell in love with your gardens and animals a short time ago. I really enjoy your storytelling and as a lover of Ireland who lives so far away, I absolutely love the job you did on this. The scenery shots, the music, and of course your gentle way of telling a story are a delight. Well done. Please throw, Moss a stick from me.
You are an amazing storyteller. Ireland has seeped into your bones and heart.
As a blacksmith I can tell you, farmers are still hard to get payment from.
preach brother! We need to expose the BIG SHEEP INC!
Lolol
😆😆😆
🤣😂🤣😂
This was a wonderful episode and you are a talented writer/story teller.
What a wonderful teller of tales you are! I am Irish, but I have lived abroad for now more than 20 years. The folklore and mythology of my native land are always with me, but you have, in your narration, made it real again, despite my living now in deepest, darkest France. Joking. The Celtic sense is still not lost here, but it is not the same as that of the island, and I do miss it when I have time to let my thoughts fly back there again. Thank you most sincerely. Beir Bua!
@@xotan Where in France are you if I may ask? and yes, really agree - though it's beautiful in its way, it's not quite got that wonderful mystical side that Ireland alone possesses...
@@xotan How unexpected to come across an old friend here on this bare mountainside🤣. And to Daniel, thank you for the wondrous story, and and the lovely telling of it.
@@Lalita_Chevaliere_108 He is in Wales, I believe
Daniel, that was a wonderful story, the music and singing took me there along with it. Thank you.
Love to always see what you are doing Daniel, we are on a similar journey both my son and I so always looking out for new postings from Mossy Bottom. Daniel, you have made a very sadden lady very tearful but thankful this morning, so moving for me personally.. Do you now Dorset and the beautiful and wild Purbeck hills and coast.? After a very hurtful separation I I came here from London in 1999 with my Two small babies, my son being poorly at the time. Managed to buy a very run down cottage and a garden( full of years of rubbish and broken bottles too) to start a new life the three of us.. After many years of hard work. made a kitchen with my young son and daughter and vegetable gardens/ducks, places to play and create and read, I also home educated them both while having small jobs and selling plants/produce. My children and I would walk those hills collecting wild edibles, and that's where I meet and fell in love with my Gerry. He was a child and man of those hill, natuaral to him as a goat, he knew them like the back of his hand and he as solid as the stones they are made of.There was no place he would rather be walking with his beloved sheep dog Tess. We done our courting there if that is the right word or more like got to know each other slowly, all 4 of us, with him introducing us to all the lost and forgotten places, history of the area and the folk stories, and shared the love he had for his people of the village and surrounding villages, with him the knowledge of the flowers and wild plants having a life time with plants with his background at Kew gardens. We had too few very happy years like that, sad to say I/ we lost him 3 years ago to those beautiful hills and has yet to be found even thought very dedicated searches took place. Gerry, a legion of those hills now. If you Google " Missing Swanage Man Gerry Turner " in Bournmouth Echo (March 2018) and also"Remembering My Gerry"The Purbeck Gazette, my story of Gerry, You will see why this posting of yours has made me tearful yet thankful for the time we had. Sorry this is long but I felt so strong that I had to say how your journey has affected bother myself and my son. We talk about you a lot with great affection and feel part of what you are living, you give us get up and go. Thank you Daniel, bless you and Moss and all those lovely creatures of yours
OMG. Who ever thought about this content is just amazing. I was so moved. Like watching a movie, Daniel. I loved your farm life but I also enjoyed the cottage for sale and this one as well.
Your ideas are amazing. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video. 🥰🥰🥰
Lying in bed sick and this has helped the pain so much. You're a wonderful storyteller and what a beautiful place!
As someone who has been researching Somerset, the barrows, leylines, churches, mumps etc for the last few years this is right up my street. Time to learn our real history, of which Ireland plays a huge role.
You truly have a gift of story telling. This video was a such joy to watch - breathtaking view of the country, beautiful music and a very captivating, moving story. Maybe you could do more videos in the future related to Irish folk stories and myths.
I remember my grandmother talking about the fairies people were scared of them.
A true “Seanchai” .. you truly have a beautiful way with words and story telling . Thankyou for sharing Ireland in such a beautiful way with the world.
I'm so lucky to have a fort just outside my window. Spent my childhood there with my dog, always felt so safe in there.
What a lovely story which can only but leave a tear in one´s eye. The folklore of our ancestors which maybe but fairy stories yet they leave one to wonder if some truths lie deep within like all other mysteries of life and the history of mankind are riddled with folklore from all corners of the globe. Another great video beautifully presented highlighting the best of Eire.
I was quite moved by this video! You make me want to come to Ireland even more now! This was beautifully done. Loved every second of this. Thank you for your gift to us!
This is so interesting, you are an excellent story teller.👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you so much! :)
Sometimes it's just nice to accept a beautiful gift and say 'thank you'.
Great video I personally believe there is a lot more truth in legends than most people think. The real history of the earth is hidden in these legends and not in the books they give us. 👍😎
What a beautiful place. Great video! Lovely drone shots in particular.. There's nothing quite like exploring an ancient monument from the air!
This was a real treat. I much enjoyed the tale.
Beautiful
Great timing, been stuck in bed all day trying to get over the flu, this will cheer me up no end. Thank you.
When did the flu get back from holiday?
Get well soon, and dream of Ireland….
You are such a great story teller! Thank you and best wishes from Finland, the Moomin country!
Aww man, I got all choked up when he said, "He finally found a way through." 😢
Just beautiful. I loved listening to the story. I’m Irish and English and live in Florida. I love listening to old Irish tales. The Secret of Roan Inish was my favorite movie.
Ireland is beautiful with a rich and sometimes dark history. Beautiful scenery and story.
I was delighted to hear you mention Robert Lloyd Praeger!. He lived here in Holywood NI and his sister Rosemund Praeger was a renowned sculptor whose work “ Johnny the Jig “ can be found outside a children’s playground in the town. Loved the folklore and your exploration of this stunning part of Ireland.
Well done . Very enjoyable. The irony of an English man giving us (Irish ) a good history lesson .
I know...I thought the same......
Wow!!! Just WOW!!!..This was such a beautiful episode. So well edited and the music beautiful. You are an amazing story teller and I was captivated by this whole episode. I live just down the road from Carrowkeel and visit this beautiful place regularly. I have a feeling many will be going there to look for the wiry haired old man.
Oh My! How lovely. In these modern times of virus, confinement and economic world-wide confusion, this was a wonderful gift of green hills and valleys, sunshine, and quality music to match the tale of undying love. Thank you Daniel.
Ya just hit upon my love of Ireland, folklore, history, and the beauty of nature. PERFECTION.
Boys oh boys, sure am glad to be Irish and still be living in our wonderful country. Fair play to ya, you’ve captured it wonderfully my friend.
A random suggestion, during winter when your income stream is lower how about a weekly folklore video.
Great idea 🌟
Thank you for breathing new life into a wonderful story. You are a gifted storyteller and Ireland is enriched with you presence.🙏
I love your choice of background music..beautiful Ireland 🇮🇪..fascinating stories that I’ve never heard before..Beautiful tales.. Thank You.
What a beautiful story, and your ending was wonderful and hopeful.
Wow…gobsmacked…I felt like I was with my family hearing the old stories of Ireland…What a treat, gosh you are an excellent storyteller…💚
From a irish person now living in canada you bring my heart back home thank you for that☘️☘️☘️
Another great episode. Well told, written and shot. I can hardly wait to travel again, Ireland is on my bucket list. Thank you, cheers Michael
A beautiful tale told beautifully in one of our personal favorite spots in all or Ireland.

What a sad heartwrenching story! Lots of lore for sure, in those emerald hills...
This episode was one of your best yet…. Lovely cinematography, a hauntingly sweet story, captivatingly told, and the perfect musical accompaniment.
So beautiful in every way. Had me in floods of tears. Thank you for sharing. I too love the myth and magic of Ireland and like many I have Irish blood in me also. Ireland has been calling me for a while now and I've still not made it there yet xoxoxo
Now this is my type of love story💞😊 I can't wait for your next exploration of forgotten Irish folkore. It's amazing how one can be transported to another world just by storytelling...thank you so much...
I loved seeing a hearing about the folklore of these mountains. Especially the Love Story between the young man and young woman. It was heartfelt and touching, I like this part of your new series. Showing your explorations and tells about the surroundings. Thank you for the Post most enjoyable.
I moved from Spain to the south of Ireland a week ago, and I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I'm adding this place to my to-visit list! Amazing storytelling, Daniel.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, I felt like I was there. I loved the tale and I reckon he found her in the end! Thank you so much for making this film. 😊🇬🇧💕
This was so beautiful... Please do more stories like this!
Absolutely loved this!! Please do more of these folk legend/stories in-situ. The synergy of the landscape and your story telling skills is a great blend!
Daniel, this was a beautiful video. Love the music you chose. I could listen to you recite anything all day. So much ancient history and folklore. Thank you for sharing this special place with us....truly breathtaking!
Daniel, thank you so much for this wonderful treat, I was totally bewitched by your skilful story telling. I do so hope you will find the time to do this again ! XX
Thankyou for making this amazing video. You are so talented. You are a brilliant story teller. The scenery was beautiful, and your choice of words were beautiful. This brought me back to my chidhood sitting by the fireside listening to my Aunt telling me all about the fairies. Wonderful.💚🌿☘🍀🌲🍃🍂

It's the wee hours of the morning where I live and I couldn't sleep, but now I found a treat much better than sleep! What a delightful start to your new series!
Just heard your September podcast - yes, we very much like this storytelling series, and will help spread the word! Often do post your videos on Facebook for friends and family to discover and enjoy. And please - never feel pressured to do as other RUclipsrs do, pursuing quantity over quality. Your quality, and the joy you find in creating and sharing things - that's what draws fans to your channel.
You have become one of us now.
I just love this episode! So beautiful… the mountains, the music, the story, and the storytelling… Best of everything! 🌺😊
Beautiful story, takes me back to my homeland. Thank you .
I think as the old man climbed the hill, the fairy king knew it would be his last time. He allowed the young girl to go and get him and they lived together with the Fae . The old man was once again young and their love is still there.
That would be a wonderful ending.
Thank you, and I agree, he found his way to her and her to him, through her song on the wind 😊
Lovely photography. After an enforced Covid exile I am looking forward to returning. Well done on the inclusion of folklore and history - so rich and yet so neglected. What an Amazon series The Battle of Moytura would make. Now that we have CGI at last the realisation would do Balor of the Evil Eye some justice.
Just a gentle reminder - there were two.
Yes. This is the second. The first was between the Tuatha and the Firbolgs. The former won through superior technology.
The Tuatha succumbed themselves eventually to the Milesians.
That was wonderful! Please do more content like this!
I love listening to you. You are indeed the best storyteller I have ever heard. Thank you for all you do. I love Ireland and wish I could live there.
Thank you, that was so beautifully told. I live close to that magical spot, it’s truly a special place ✨🙏💚
Everything about this video is beyond beautiful!!! And the “he finally found a way through” made me smile so much!More of this please :)
Well.... I guess I'll just go cry forever now. Beautiful story, beautifully told. Guess i have to add another place to my visit list when I get the chance to visit.
I can't help but wonder if The Not So Young Anymore Man's visits moved another member of the fairy court with his longing. I wonder if they gifted him with eternal health and youth and passage to the Tir Na Nog. I very much wonder what that moment would have been like when he wandered into the Fairy King's Court, called by a familiar voice, and two fated eyes finally beheld each other once more.
You have a gift for story telling and film making - it brought tears to my eyes - a moving story told with empathy
Absolutely beautiful, Daniel. Thank you. I’ve wanted to visit Ireland for a long while, and I find the folklore enchanting. Perhaps I’ll get over there next year and find me some faeries 😉🌿
Wow Ireland has been so deforested but sheep farmers. I read Ireland has only 1% of original forests left. Let’s plant some trees ! Great video. Thank you ! Looking forward to visiting my original country some day.
Enjoyed your storytelling very much. The myths and stories of the Celts, the Druids, and alll ancients the World over have always moved me, though to my knowledge, I am not Irish.
I have been on that mountain and visited those tombs, an amazing place.
Lovely story..thank you:) The Irish landscape is haunting and beautiful!
Excellent video, fantastic presentation. Carrowkeel is an extraordinary place. I've been there several times. You might visit the Deerpark Court Tomb sometime. You're spoilt for choice in and around the Co. Sligo area. The Labby Rock dolmen is enormous. It's not too far from Carrowkeel.
When thou canst, get thee to a good library and holden to thyself a copy of The Annals of the Four Masters, therein thou shalt find wonderful stories of battles of times gone past, to tell upon your magic screen. I for one believe you were not alone but I won't press you on that. Might have been Moss working the camera, or, it might not!! Nice video. I expect Carrowkeel will be packed with all of your followers come next Spring. Failte Ireland, take note!
I didn't realize until your Patreon podcast (10/22) that you wrote this story. As a creative writer myself, I relate to the joy that comes from honoring that gift when the inspiration comes to one. With the 3-hour trek up and down the mountain multiple times, we learn what a labor of love this video was for you. We look forward to the next....
Math an fear Daniel. You are blessed with so many talents which you so graciously share with us. Great job, great story telling, great video. Go raibh mile maith agat.
That was lovely....and yes of course he found a way through! I love a happy ending😊.💞🥳
This story really had me spellbound. When there were pauses, I’d be saying, “what what what is going to happen next??” 😁. The scenery and music were just lovely, too.
What a wonderful video, thank you for telling the story! And well done for climbing the mountain in wellies ;)
I really enjoyed that, thank you. I wonder if you or any of your lovely followers on here have come across Colette O'Neill of Bealtaine Cottage ? She has been such an inspiration to me. She has created a lovely woodland and food forest on her own over the last 17 years and is very knowledgeable on Irish folklore. Love her videos.
I agree, he walked into the tomb looking for his beloved and followed her voice through a portal in the abyss of another dimension. I'd love to see inside he tombs. Thanks my friend.☘🍀
Great story-telling Daniel - I loved it. Even the music was perfect.
Enchanting visit to Carrowkeel with Daniel. Breathtaking views and a touching story, well told, by the man of many talents! Loving it mate!👍🏽
That was nicely done, what lovely story telling and camera-work. I would just caution people regarding climbing inside passage tombs. They are generally not accessible but even when they are can be dangerous. Never climb over national monuments of this kind.
Kya, I agree with you... dangerous, and I think that out of respect, people should not climb on, or enter them..disrespectful. They are fragile , and could easily be damaged.🤔
@@josephinemonahan915 I think that one is accessible to the public, but yes, I know the NM people are protective of the sites.
I have been following you the last years, and enjoyed every single video. But with this one, mildly put, is a whole new world, a storytelling-landscape-viewing-drone-flying-hiking-to-mysterious-places, that is shockingly beautiful, and absolutely WONDERFUL. You are very good at this. Please make more. I LOVE IT!! 💓
An extraordinary video ! The music the landscape the love story everything was wonderfull. You are a real story teller. Bravooo Daniel! All the best for you.
Thanks so much for this lovely view of the mountain. I to think they were reunited in death as often these tales end which I think is beautiful
I'd say you are a romantic in your heart. This video was so great. The music and photography was wonderful and the tale was mesmerizing. I like your idea that the man found his way through and probably joined his loved one. That warms my heart at the thought of that. Thank you for making this video and all your videos.
Thank you Daniel, this was epic.
Ah that was just lovely! A bit like Cathy and Heathcliff, their spirits will happily wander the pathways of Carrowkeel for always.
Wow! Beautiful videography, expert editing. Lovely lovely storytelling! You have a gift
