My father said he would've voted NO for the Scottish referendum of 2014, he & mum came to the US after the war in 1950, Dad always seemed British first { a decorated WW2 British soldier } while mum was a Glaswegian at heart it seemed, he passed 2 years ago mum is 90 I'm her caregiver here in Florida. Interesting video really enjoyed it :)
Could not listen to anymore of Gordon Williams. A hell of a lot of English people particularly in the north, had no indoor sanitation or hot water in 1975 so were in the same boat.
Boswell asks Johnson what he thinks is the most beautiful view in Scotland. Johnson replies "Sir, the noblest prospect in Scotland is the road to London."
I think this kind of thing is entrenched in a certain, old fashioned kind of English culture. We imagined a lot of foreigners hated us because, quite simply, we hated and were wary of them. We also acted as if the world owed us something and if we didn't get it then this was somehow some kind of devious foreign plot against us.
This is such a messed up subject and they all blame each other. Ultimately I see little love lost between the nations that comprise the United Kingdom. The union is ultimately strategic more than anything else. Scotland and Wales cry out the loudest despite having, at this point in time, the least to complain about. England on the other hand has never shown Scotland due respect or understanding. England belittles Scotland at every opportunity while Scotland blames England for virtually every bad thing that befalls them. No union that operates under these conditions will be happy or equal one, essentially we have 2 countries in particular that exist in this union but really know very little about each other. Scotland is a nation that has existed independently for the majority of its history, its always held its own very well but any country that willingly signs away its independence to another will always have a yearning to take it back. If England was ruled from a government in Edinburg I dare say the union would have collapsed a long time ago. Instead of belittling Scotland at every turn people in England need to recognise the strategic value Scotland provides as well as its abundance of resources. Scotland though, must stop blaming England especially now it’s had a devolved government for 20 years. The unfairness as you would put it was dealt with on the Scottish side when this happened. But while English MPs have little influence over Scotland, Scottish MPs can still vote on English matters. This simply isn’t fair. What’s more is that Scotland needs to recognise that England being more populous has far more issues to contend with, many of which have been ignored because Scotland has cried out so loudly and demanded so much. So it’s time to get a grip, both Scotland and England have more to loose should this union collapse.
Don't hate the average English person. As the woman points out it's the modern state mechanisms. Plus the southern London centric lean. English system wasn't that keen when it's language was outlawed and it's power usurped by the French Normans for 200 odd yrs
1:07 That’s one thing that pisses me off. When men explain things and they scratch their neck with one finger to relieve awkwardness. It’s annoying and unnecessary. STOP!!
Oh my...people with differing views having a civil discussion on tv. ...what an alien concept

Its good to slag each other off and laugh about it.no snowflakes in them days.

Fascinating how times have changed - I think most have forgotten how the Welsh and Scots were oppressed
Not oppressed at all
..because we're so fucking amazing.
They haven't changed one little bit.

They don’t,you can’t as the North is completely different from the south.

Wind it foreword to 2021 and see what we all have lost through political correctness, we have all been destroyed
Disappointing, just a slag off.

The moderator shows the arrogance the Brits have had for decades. And I’m an America but I know history.
Being an American and knowing history is physically impossible
Decades?? Centuries, you ignorant colonial
