The Spanish never tried to invade Scotland, the Dutch never went to war with the Irish, the Italians never did battle with the Welsh. So, they all hate England so much because they've never had any other enemies other than the English; the English find it easier to let bygone's be bygone's because we've been invaded, conquered, and been to war with so many different people that it just...meh, to us it's just history and we don't care. Prob cause their citizenship allows them to travel a lot. Compare to Iraq where 198 countries out of 200 won’t let you in without a visa, and travelling hardly affordable with their purchase power (or shall I say, purchase weakness). If an Iraqi realises they’d never visit almost any country in their entire life, they have nothing but settle on their remote opinion.

Very true HC. My time studying and living in the States showed me how kind and friendly everyone is. We all have our idiots and nutters, but yes- America has alot of goodness, sadly so publicly divisive currently
Honestly most anti American sentiment is because of Trump, which is silly because it holds America to a higher standard than the rest if the world. Most of this is from people who have never been to the states, because everyone who actually has been loves it. Then there's other things like hating on the difference in pronunciation of words etc but that is also the reason every town hates each other in the UK so it's not serious - if anything it means we are closer.

Each to their own, my friend but I have spent a lifetime enjoying Richmond Park, Hampstead virtually the whole os South West London from Chiswick to Barnes through north London around Hampstead, The Heath there, Highgate through The West of London around Kensington and it's Gardens and Earls Court and my own beloved South East London. The London Suburbs have been wonderful and peaceful. Then add all the, literally, thousands( Pre Covid ) Restaurants, the hundreds of World Famous Theatres and all The Museums and you had one of the most invigorating places on earth....:)
Bloody hell some of you got a weird thing against Londoners. As if we’re all hermits who’ve never left London, I’ve never spoke to anyone here who doesn’t love areas like the Peak or Lake District and most people obviously go around the country and don’t live some dystopian life where they’re stuck in London.
Yes, Londoners are maybe not representative. In fact I'm really surprised you found so many whites; most in my area are not. And the white Londoners need to tread carefully for obvious reasons.
@Ghibli92 It's not about the landscapes - all of which are inspirational and amazing.....it's more about the people in them. Many people in England (outside London) wanting a 'hard Brexit' EVEN after Covid (which would be absolutely devastating for us), having an irrational dislike of Germans and Germany STILL in 2020 (really sad), ditto France and the French, the total obsession with WW2, the obsession with America (more non Londoners than Londoners tbh), the weird admiration for Donald Trump and the 'he's not that bad really' attitude - while Londoners find him toxic and repellent, and a very real threat to Europe and western democracy (this worries non Londoners much less), the casual disregard for the sanctity of the Union, aswell as that of the Good Friday Agreement, the general ignorance about Britain and Ireland's history, the renewed 'antipathy' towards the Scots which Brexit brought back.......I could go on.
@Spitfire Mark1A Er, not really. Yes I love quiche.....don't you? or is this too 'sophisticated' for you? ....as for reading the Guardian......nope, I'm not guilty of this. Nor do I drink 'soy latte' like so many 'virtue signallers' in London. Soya is destroying the planet (along with palm oil). This is a good enough reason to not drink soy latte or indeed anything with soy in it. Palm oil seems to be in everything these days and you have to ask yourself 'why?' - it's not necessary for palm oil to be in most things. It doesn't bother me that I'm not being 'fashionable', I'd rather have a healthy planet than be a ignorant virtue signalling idiot. Thankfully not all those in live in rural areas have such a 'cliched' view of Londoners. My remarks about non Londoners weren't meant to ' tar everyone with the same brush', but an awful lot of people in rural areas do have an unhealthy appreciation for Donald Trump. They don't see having our meat industry flooded by low grade 'chlorinated' chicken as anything to worry about, and have this bizarre irrational 'fear/hatred of Europeans. I just don't get it?? Yes, I'm wildly going off topic now, but.... We may speak the same language as Americans (though this in itself is debatable), but culturally we're more like the Germans than we are the Americans. There's not alot I or you can do about this - afterall we are Europeans.

As an English person I'm proud that people here don't like to hate anywhere, but also I'm a bit ashamed by how easy it is the be self loathing. I'm sure most of it was just the English tendency to be self-deprecating, but it's a bit unhealthy. It does appear that the interviews were all done in London, which is pretty unlike the rest of the country, and is particularly middle classed and embarrassed by the idea of national pride.
Can you name one good thing that ‘National pride’ has produced throughout history? It has always been, racism, hate, violence, economic imperialism, war and empire, regardless of which nation you look at.
@@Uio3eva I completely agree with you that it can have that result. 100%. But there are so many things in life that we shouldnt, and don't, entirely abandon because they are bad in excess. Personal pride for example. Clearly bad in excess, but massively important for mental health. National pride is just as illogical as pride in a family member, or Pride felt for a friend, but it helps that person's self esteem. And just as pride for your child doesn't necessarily make you hate other children, national pride doesn't necessarily make you hate other countries. It's absurd to think your child is the best and most perfect child, but that's just part of human nature, and it certainly isn't worse than having no pride in your child at all. Feeling part of something larger than yourself has a huge effect on human psychology, and with preventing mental illness. Some people get it from political movements, or charity work, but most people struggle to find that. It's the reason patriotism is far higher in working class communities all around the world. People are inspired to do things in the world because they care about the place they will leave behind when they die. People do things for others because they feel a closeness to them, the word 'kind' comes from the word 'kin' for a reason. It would be amazing if we could all feel that way about the world as a whole, but you'd be asking far to much of human nature. We would (and I absolutely agree we should) have to put a lot of societal work to have kids grow up feeling 'world pride'. But in the mean time removing that national bond doesn't result in people becoming world-wide generous, it just results in less generosity. It's sad but we have to work within the bounds of human psychology and just do the best we can.
Outside of the other comments stating benefits of national pride, the simple fact of not getting walked over by those who do practice national pride/any equivalent of group identity to rally around. Don't have to be some chest beating jingoist but a a willingness to protect your interests and not be taken advantage of is needed.
As an American I am not used to this self-depracating nature and I find it fascinating. I wouldn't hesitate to start listing countries I don't like. Syria, Iraq, Moldova, and most African countries are absolute crapholes and I feel sorry for the people stuck in such impoverished conditions. Acknowledging that a place sucks doesn't have anything to do with the value of the people born there.
I feel like part of our culture is hating our country, but we forget how good we have it and most people haven’t lived through other lifestyles and don’t realise just how lucky we are.
England once had a welfare level that kind of resembled the Nordic countries. But Thatcherism and alike crumbled that potential and made England what it is today, and that level is in many ways behind the Nordic England could have been so much more with less politics favoring the rich all the time

I'm American and I never hear anyone bad mouth England here. Some other countries but never England. In my part of the country most of us are descendants of people from the British Isles, myself included. I'm visiting Manchester and Leeds in March. Can't wait.

Of course asking people in London about England is like asking an Icelander about the tropics. Most of them have never been there.

I like the fact that if they haven't been to another country, then they do not say that they hate it. I have watched other channels make this video in other countries and they freely gave their opinion, but England was surprisingly more humble.
Prob cause their citizenship allows them to travel a lot. Compare to Iraq where 198 countries out of 200 won’t let you in without a visa, and travelling hardly affordable with their purchase power (or shall I say, purchase weakness). Ppl make assumptions based on opportunities they have, nothing magical about it. If an Iraqi realises they’d never visit almost any country in their entire life, they have nothing but settle on their remote opinion.
There are no countries I don't like. I just don't like some governments and political systems of some countries
As a Canadian I have travelled to England twice and loved London. It is though bloody expensive!
Try seeing 'England proper' next time..... London is NOT England.... There are sites sure, but you will get no real impression of England just from London...... I cannot believe that I have been giving this same answer to this naive statement for over 40 years now. Get on the internet Mr.Jack and find what there is....I can recommend you a great car hire place - half the price of any you will find at the airport, including pick up from either Heathrow or Gatwick. Every Brit that actually comes here for longer than a trip to Disney or NY usually finds us more polite and friendly than they expected. As to,politics, all countries are having problems. That is no reason to dislike a country. A country is it's people, not it's fake lying media or it's politics.
@Jack Hopewell and OP
As a British person I completely agree.
In the film "Goodbye Mr Chips" set in an English public school. A German pupil is being bullied,It's 1914 and WW1 is looming.Mr Chips admonishes the bullies and tells them "No man is a country/nation" It's not where you are from...it's who you are.

And im English.....
Asking this question in London??? They never get out of the place to know what England is like ...
ikr he needs to come up north and ask this
Bloody hell some of you got a weird thing against Londoners.
@Spitfire Mark1A Er, not really.

@@Uio3eva Does that include India, Ireland and Palestine ?
As an American I am not used to this self-depracating nature and I find it fascinating. I wouldn't hesitate to start listing countries I don't like. Syria, Iraq, Moldova, and most African countries are absolute crapholes and I feel sorry for the people stuck in such impoverished conditions.
