    Why are people saying that you’ll die if you touch the paper clip, 12v isn’t enough voltage to make your skin undergo dielectric breakdown, thus current wil not be able to find a path, this is also assuming you are grounded (which I guess could happen if you were touching the psu case) however the terminals are already shorted to a much shorter path because it’s just a straight wire, and some other people keep saying that somehow an unloaded power supply can burn your house down?

      @Chriss4123 you made no sense. Yes the clip is resistive obviously. It's connecting green wire to ground to SIMPLY turn the psu on. If it shorts 3.3n 5 or 12v then psu simply turns off because they have short circuit protection.

    • @Chriss4123
      @Chriss4123 2 года назад

    • @chaddino7601
      @chaddino7601 2 года назад +3

      it doesn't work that way, the PS_ON wire which is green needs to have its voltage level at 0V to be able to turn on the PSU, aka shorting it to ground is the way, but for the rest of the wires, yes it's a hazard

    One time my PC didn't turn on and I thought the Motherboard or my PSU died. I guessed it was the PSU, so I ordered a new one. After Cleaning my whole PC and putting everything back together with the new PSU, my PC still didn't turn on 😐
    Then I found out about this trick and tested my old PSU. It was working...
    So it was my Motherboard that died and I bought a new PSU for no reason. I wish I knew that trick earlier.

    I had scrap computer powersupplies that i used to burn and melt shit when i was a kid. i figured out i could turn it on by shorting the green wire to black and then i would connect all the orange wires together and all the black wires together then i would connect those two bunches with thick 6mm wires that i would connect with some old fuse holder sockets and then i would stick in graphite rods extracted from AA & AAA carbon zinc batteries and watch them glow. Even melt shit with it. I once melted a whole glass fuse with that carbon rods & this was well before electro boom made a video. This was in 2013-14 & i was 10-11yo. Never burned my fingers somehow. I had destroyed a lot of atx powersupplies but always had a source of them cus there is a computer scraper nearby & the owner let me take whatever shit i wanted. I even made a whole pc from free scrap in 2015 with a cleron 2.4ghz socket 478 , 512mb ram , 80gb hdd and intel motherboard with onboard graphics..

    And what if you have a PSU with all black wires ???
    I prefer to a the 24 pin adapter that is made for this just so I don’t have to lookup the pin out

    Why does this happen?:
    24 pin ATX has a PS_ON pin which if shorted to ground, then the power supply will actually start supplying power. otherwise it won't
    Here, the PS_ON pin is shorted to ground which means it will supply power

    No. Motherboard plugs can vary by manufacturer/era. You want to ground out the PS_ON pin. Look for a pinout for your power supply before attempting this "hack".

    If any of you guys think 5 or 12 volts will shock you, need to do a little research lol. A rough guesstimate of 4 megaohms (4 million) results in about 0.0000024 amps. You'll never feel that. Nor would it ever hurt you.
