Great video thanks. Your use of the harmonic minor scale plus 9th works really well over one of my favourite songs, Softly as in a Morning Sunrise. Apart from the bridge, it is repeated minor 2-5-1s in C-7I play tenor so D-7 for me. The harmonic minor scale with the 9th is beautiful and for Softly it’s basically 3/4 of the entire song. Gracias from Mexico.
Wow! Thank you John and to think of you watching my videos in Mexico 🇲🇽 is honestly such a thrill. I love the tune softly and I love harmonic minor and it’s magical 9th. Thank you for reaching out 🤝🤝🤝🎷🎷🤝🤝🇲🇽🇬🇧🇲🇽🇬🇧
Sir, this is EXACTLY what everyone needs!! You have a thing for teaching, I know that because I do too, and I understand what it takes to explain something in such excellent clarity. So, thank you a million for this amazing work. You are helping more than you can imagine. Coffee coming right away.... Ashraf
Oh Ashraf you’re so kind, I really appreciate what you’ve said and it really touches me. I reach out my hand to shake yours, thank you very much sir 🤝🤝🎷🎷😎😎
Dude, you might be a great teacher and all, and I will watch again to try and decifer, having never played a sax and hoping to play someday, but man oh man, the sound you were producing got me mesmerized. This is the first time I've heard you, and I'm going to look for more of your playing! Thank you
Merci pour ces explications très claires, j’attends les suivantes avec impatience 🇫🇷🎷 Thank you for these very clear explanations, I look forward to the following
Super explanation Lynden; thank you very much from Germany... Please keep going analysing simple Jazz standards for intermediate players (and early improvisers). You could add a comment, that the provided cord chard (C Major for Bb instrument) is deviating from the RealBook (A Major for Bb instrument); probably for making it more easy. A further enhancement could be. to include some tips about typical phrases in the original melody, we could use as is or in a slightly modified way. Again thank you and cheers.
Listening and watching from Nigeria, Lagos precisely. The video is far- reaching and I'm glad I washed it to the end. Self thought and amateur beginner. I have learn so much but I haven't get the hang improvisation but watching this tutorial give me more depth into improvisation. I have not able afford one on one teaching. I can add this technic to what I already know. Here's my question. I play Alto. What is Autumn Leaves on Alto?

Hi Lyndon. First of all THANK YOU for your wonderful tutorials. My question is this. I'm trying to coordinate the melody in my Real Book for tenor--b flat-- and the chart from the IRealPro which is in A minor. How do I find the right chart for melody in the Real Book? -- which is in A major.
Hi David, thank you for your comments and I’m delighted that you’re finding my tutorials useful. At the top of the page in iReal, have a look for this :Aa and touch it. Then you’ll see the transpose button. Does this help?
Hi Lynden Great video thanks. A novice user to iReal Pro so bit confused on how to match what you are demonstrating. Default concert key for the tune is G- so I set the key A- to get the D7 G7 etc chords to show for the Tenor. However the Piano and Bass are now playing in A- so that doesn't work with the Bb Tenor when in playback. I'm I missing something in iReal Pro or maybe I'm just being a bit thick 🙂
Hi Steve, no you’re not being thick, you need to transpose for Bb. Look at the tune, top right see a question mark in a circle, next to that see “Aa”. Touch that a box opens, see “transposing instrument”, touch that and set it to Bb. Please let me know if that helps 🤝🤝🤝🎷🎷🤝🤝
Thanks!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your support 🤝🤝🎷🎷😎😎 🍁
