My favorite tip was not taking work home and not logging into my work email so I’m not tempted. That’s genius, thank you for all the great tips. I just requested the Facebook group
I am so glad that I found this video because I feel as if my administrators do not want me to take the time to adjust and become familiar. The other counselor was an 8 year veteran who went above and beyond. I am practically a new counselor, so it is very overwhelming! I was also administratively placed at this school which I would have never done. I am wanting to quit but I know that is not the best thing to do; however I am not enthusiastic about this and feel like I will have a rough year.
I hope your year gets better. I can’t imagine what you must be feeling. I am here as a resource. Thank you so much for sharing! My favorite tip was setting boundaries because as an intern I had did not do the best with this. As a new counselor I feel like this will continue to be a challenge for me because I’m going to want to please everyone lol. I will definitely refer back to this video for support
You are amazing! I love watching your videos! I don’t usually leave comments, but I had too! Your videos are straight to the point with SO much valuable information.
I’m 13 and I’m starting to be a CIT (counselor in training) next week. It’s gonna be my first time and I’m working with 1st-3rd graders. Any tips on how to make good first impressions and be as helpful as I can? I just wanna know everything I can, and be as prepared as I can before I start. If you have any tips, tricks, suggestions, etc. I would greatly appreciate it. 😁
Just be genuine and be yourself. Kids love someone who cares about them and can relate to them. If you can have any activities that involve games or movement, that helps ☺️
I love this video! Thank you very much. I will be a first year middle school counselor and I’ve been talking to other counselors and joined groups also and building relationships is one point that’s been expressed. Also learned through Internship and Practicum! I loved all the points. I do have a question. When you are joined teacher, and leadership meetings and write down things that you can contribute to how could you go about implementing those ideas if you don’t necessarily have certain materials? What if you see a need but don’t know how to exactly contribute?
Great information. All of the information was very well said. It's hard to choice from. They are all great tips. I am very nervous as a first year school counselor and not sure if I am able to get a mentor.

Hi, I am a new elementary counselor at a new virtual school. How can I go about getting data? The students are all over the district and came from different schools. I am planning on doing a needs assessment ASAP. Right now I am trying to get all of my district resources and log in. I have so many questions 😫

Hi Althea👋🏾It’s important to collaborate and seek input from the team to know what you’ll need and how it’ll be accomplished ☺️

Hi Andreia! It sounds like you’ve got the right idea. The best thing is to get data from needs assessments across multiple campuses. Good luck ☺️👏🏽👏🏽

For me it’s just a gift. But it helps the more you speak with them and make connections. ☺️
