I’m an elementary school counselor. I am in charge of … RTI Section 504 Migrant students GT testing MTSS dyslexia packets SPED packets Benchmarks 3-5 grade STAAR Testing TIA for k-2 I help with lunch duty, afterschool duty and morning duty. I’m expected to do 3 counseling classes a day. I think my school district is the only one who has all the these programs for just the elementary school counselor. Most districts have the assistant principal be I In charge of at least 80% of these programs. It almost feels illegal to have the counselor in charge of all these programs on top of counseling. That is south south Texas for you. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My first year as a school counselor is going to be Amazing!

I've recently completed First-Class a BSc (Hons) Psychology with Counselling degree, as a very mature student, and I've successfully brought up four children alone as a widow. I'd love to work as a school counsellor to help young people succeed and reach their full potential. However, I don't have any experience in this role (apart from with my own children, friends and relatives), so this channel's been amazing. I hope there'll be a video on how to help students who are being bullied, and knowing how to address the "bully" (probably not the right word to use) without their parents becoming defensive. I'm located in Germany, so I'd probably be looking to work at an international school as my German's still far from perfect.
