- Just right back & watch the opening and closing credits of season one, two & three of Gilligan's island. There is actually a difference between season two and threes opening.
Season 1 opening: 0:02
Season 1 Closing: 1:03
Season 2 Opening: 1:40
Season 2 Closing: 2:42
Season 3 Opening: 3:18
Season 3 Closing: 4:20
Rest in peace Gilligan, Skipper, The Professor, Thurston Howell the III, Lovey Howell and Mary Ann. 💔
💔💔💔
I was obsessed with this show as a kid. One week, I got grounded from watching TV, and then my schoolmates had to try to explain to me what "The Mosquitos" were...
I would have liked to experience that.
"The Movie Star...and the Rest!"
Wow, the Professor and Mary Ann really got shafted in the season 1 opening, lol.
For the sake of suspense I presume...presuming they show up later in the season.
Bob Denver threatened to have his name taken out of the theme if they didn’t add their names.
@@jr2280 seriously??
@@megax5000 Yup, thanks to him
When the first theme song was recorded they didn't have the the professor and Maryann in the cast yet.
The Season 1 closing (part of the lyrics) were used in "Weird Al" Yankovic's song Amish Paradise: No phones, no lights, no motor cars, not a single luxury. like Robinson Crusoe,
it's primitive as can be. Mind = Blown
Holy sh*t
Still to this day one of my favorite tv shows ever
R.I.P. Dawn "Mary Ann" Wells
😢
If you watch closely in the season one intro you will see at 0:23 an American Flag flying at half mast. This is due the assignation of President Kennedy. Production actually shut down for days due to the closure of all harbors following the event. When they did get back to filming, flags were still flying at half mast.
Rob Cantwell assasination.

I always assumed it was "the ship struck ground." "Set ground" sounds odd, but I suppose it's right.
I'm pretty sure it's 'sunk ground'
Ever notice the season one opening and closing it does look like an actual Hawaiian Harbor and Pacific Island, where as the color ones look more like a marina in Los Angeles and of course the lagoon, where all the action is set, is actually a set at CBS studios and now a parking lot.
For a 3 hour tour they brought a bunch of clothes
Thomas Pacheco well they had to change each 2 mins
Also, there were so many people for it being a deserted island.
The Skipper & Gilligan probably had a few spare shirts and pants on the SS minnow (Presumably because if it rained, it would be nice to have a dry set of clothes available.) The Howells brought a LOT of spare clothing, The girls could've possibly been hotel hopping every night which could explain why they have multiple outfits. The only character who didn't seem to bring a change of clothing was the professor.
and a $1000000 in cash
Gilligan wore the same clothes for 15 years... lol
🤣🤣🤣the Professor and MaryAnn definitely got the shaft - a 3 hour tour? 🤣yeah sounds like their idea of time was a smidge distorted as well - thank god I have a canoe 🛶 to navigate outta here 🤣 find calmer waters and at least find somewhere else to be
Never cared much for the show as I was too young for the content back then but I always felt so drawn to the melody of the theme songs.
Man, talking about digging in to the deep depths of my brain! Whenever I hear this music I think of small details about being at my grandmamas house when I was a little boy.
I dont think I ever even watched half an episode of this show...but that theme song...its just so freaking catchy, memorable, and captivating...its as if it were a ballad referring to REAL people who had been marooned on an island. Its cheerful, and yet somehow tragic, and I think thats the aspect that makes you want to hear more about this story. Definitely a wise song choice.
Always wondered what the direction to the cast was when shooting the end credit sequence “ okay everyone sit on this log and skipper just yell at Gilligan when he drops the firewood off” love these details.
The black and white scene from the first season was actually from the first episode. They were sitting around listening to a radio report about their ship being missing. The scene served as an introduction to the cast. In season 2 and 3 they just reshot the scene strictly for the end credits because they needed one in color.
I LOVE THIS SONG MY GRANDMA SHOWED ME THIS AND I LOVED IT
In season 1 of "Gilligan's Island" viewers were upset when The Professor and Mary Ann were not included in the opening credits of season 1. But were installed for seasons 2 & 3. Also after the show was cancelled they have repeated the episodes from seasons 2 & 3 between the fall of 1967 & the fall of 1971 and the was not on again until the fall of 1975 and included season 1 for that day forward.
I watched reruns in the '80s in syndication and I don't think they ever played the black-and-white episodes. When I heard there were black-and-white episodes years later I assumed it was only a handful, not an entire season, because I watched for a long time and never saw one.
Bravo to everyone who was involved with this great tune.
I remember that this was my favorite show before I could pronounce Gilligan. I used to wake up early at 6 on saturfays. It was all reruns. I'm only 25 today. This was my shits I was so disappointed when they took it off that timeslot
J Omalley still learning how to spell though
Yikes...your shits??? Restroom's down the hall...toilet paper's on the wall...
If y'all notice in the season 2 open Russell Johnson is above Dawn Wells in season 3 Dawn is above Russell. There was suppose to be a season 4 but William Paley literally made a last minute decision to move Gunsmoke ( his wife's favourite show) to Monday from Saturday (where it was slowly dying) .With no other slot available Gilligan was cancelled.
Also seasons 2 and 3 use different shots of the wrecked Minnow. I've heard that Tina Louise was intending to quit the show after season 3; that would've been another difficulty to face had there been a season 4.
Why did they reverse their pictures? It made more sense to have them in the order of the lyrics in the season 2 song.
@@jedijones It was to give Russell and Dawn equal respect of having the top spot since they shared the billing unlike the others.
Any one else notice the Composer for Season ONE?
'Johnny Williams'. AKA John Williams of Star Wars fame!
It was his very first job. He didn't do the theme song but he did everything else.
I used to watch this on the weekends eating homemade buttermilk biscuits with kidney beans. That was almost 40 years ago...
"And The Rest", Looks Like The Singers Of The 1st Theme Couldn't Be Bothered To Include The Professor And Mary Ann
It wasn't the "laziness" of the singers, it was that it was part of Tina Louise's contract that she, billed fifth, be the last person billed in the opening. For season 2, Bob Denver was demanding that the other two cast members be included, but Louise's contract was an obstacle to this. He told the producers, if Johnson and Wells aren't included, then don't list ME either! Rather than having that embarrassing situation, a compromise was reached where Johnson and Wells would "share" the screen in their billing.
RIP Dawn Wells.
In the zoomed out shots, the sky looks darker behind the big tree in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. They thought they were on a deserted island, but there's actually a building showing through that tree. It is on the Warner Bros. studio lot. 4:45
I watched this serial in my childhood days. But I forgot the title. Finally I got it . Thanks admin
Gilligans island is my favorite show ever. Who ever made this up has the best imagination because I love these types of shows I even made a story up that was like this.
Nastya Malikov ... I grew up watching these shows. I miss Shows like this. The world was Peaceful back then too.
The creator of the show, and the guy who wrote the theme song, was Sherwood Schwartz.
@@dr4g0nb0y4 The show aired during the Vietnam War. The War was never mentioned on network tv until All in the Family.
What a beautiful song by all interpreters no matter what the show is about 😈
What?😀
One of the best comedy series of the 1960s !!!
Hello!
Great video! However I remember as a child that the 3rd season theme song was slightly enhanced (almost like a sustain pedal on a piano). It is interesting because all of the DVD compilations use the exact opening on the 2nd and 3rd seasons (but both also use the enhanced sound on the closing credits). I actually have the old cassette tape recordings that I made to back up this claim. I have long wondered what happened to that slightly changed version on the 3rd season. Thank you for presenting this!
BEST theme song...ever‼
I agree. Though the Beverly Hillbilly's "Ballad Of Jed Clampet" is a close 2nd.
Closing credit , the song's line NOT A SINGLE LUXURY , it describes my life .
*insert clapping at every beat*
You left out the John Williams (Yes, THAT John Williams..) theme from the pilot episode.
3:18 - I like Gilligan's Island Season 3 title sequence.
Seasons 1&2 Minnows were 2 different year models. The first Minnow looked bigger, too.
Seasons 2&3 flipped the Professor and Mary Ann.
And shot at a different angle of the wrecked Minnow.
The 3rd season music on this is still the 2nd season music on top of the 3rd season layout. The 3rd Season is more militant and the weather wind effects are greater.
My dad was always mad that The Professor was sluffed off in the opening credits when he’s CLEARLY the most important person on the island making all the equipment out of coconuts!!! 🤣
If they made a film remake of Gilligan’s Island, I could see Michael Cera and Seth Rogan as Gilligan and Skipper, lol.
They were planning a movie in the 90s with Chris Farley as the Skipper! Unfortunately after he passed away the project was dropped
One closing theme was left out which has "week" left out from the song in the syndicated episodes.
After watching the show for 35 years I never caught on the differences between 2nd and 3rd season intros. Go figure
Two points: I believe that for many years, the syndicated reruns presented only the season 2 version for both 2 and 3, so for a long time there was no difference to be seen. Second, for the record, the two openings use a different shot of the wrecked Minnow, and the positions onscreen of Russell Johnson and Dawn Wells are swapped.
@@alanr4447a | You are correct in that they used the season 2 intro for season 3 for many years in reruns. We'll never know why. But the good thing in recent years is that they restored the season 3 intro.
The season 2 intro has a zooming shot of the beached SS minnow, the season 3 intro features a static shot of the SS Minnow (Man, so glad I remembered those terms from my high school film & Television class) plus, Professor & Mary Ann's bubbles are switched. @Rarer Media co.
I've seen that chatterbox who acting he has a brain injury. Oh god. He keeps being ridiculous of Gilligans island while being interrupted on a martial arts lesson. So it'll be funny doing the parody theme called hooligans island. 😆😆😆 that'll be great to share the added fake theme.
My all time favourite tv theme song. I know all the lyrics by heart
Being stranded on a tropical island would be a fucking vacation lol
Man I miss these times with Shows like this.🙁
Right on I fully agree. They don't make programs like that anymore.
The openings of Season 2 and Season 3 are virtually identical except for one thing. At the end the Professor and Mary Ann's heads switch places! The song is the same but Dawn Wells goes from the right side of the screen to the left!
RIP MARY ANN/ DAWN WELLS
"What's this 'and the rest' crap?" LOL
RIP cast
Dawn Wells and Tina Louise are still alive, actually.
R.I.P. Dawn "Mary Ann" Wells
This is missing the intro and outro to the pilot episode's theme that was composed by John Williams
I remember coming into my moms room and every time she watched it I would say did they get off the island yet? I heard they did that’s the only episode I’ve ever wanted to see. 😅
The opening sequence was filmed at Ala Moana beach in Oahu
I always thought Bob Denver sung the first season theme song. Sounds like he would sing it.
That's funny because the Cheers theme song always sounded like Woody was singing it to me.
thanks
Miss 80's...17.1.2020
6 passengers? I guess 1 died in the storm.
RIP 🪦 Russell Johnson and Dawn Wells
At 2:49 look to the top left of the long screen shot of the castaway's. You'll see Studio 10 top of the roof..
The show was filmed on a hawiiwan island so i dont see how you see it
No Bryson, I have the entire catalog. It wasn't filmed in a Hawaiian island..CBS studios.. Only the long range shots were an island..
I'm starting to get the impression that the Season 2 intro was also used for the seasons that followed it.
It's the same except for the very end. The professor and Mary Ann's heads switch places! In season 2 Dawn Wells' head is on the right side of the screen but in Season 3 it's on the left.
Why do they when putting classic TV series on DVD do they change the dang theme songs? Season 3 had more guitar in it and was a little more dramatic
What are the differences between season two and season three?
The professor and Mary Ann's heads switch places in the opening credits. In Season 2 Russell Johnson is on the left and Dawn Wells is on the right. Season 3 they switch places with Dawn on the left and Russell on the right. Probably so Dawn didn't always have to be last
"And the rest"
It's been a long time
RIP 🪦 Jim Backus

How does it end? Do they leave the island?
The series ends with them all still stuck on the island. In the first TV movie they escape.
Is the Marina in the 2nd clip the one at Waikiki?
yes, indeed!i was at the ali wai marina in waikiki and our tour guide said that is where the opening scene from the gilligans island credits was filmed. bob whitaker
No, parts of the second clip (the color one) were filmed at Alamitos Bay in Long Beach, California by The Crab Pot Restaurant. You can see the grey roof of Fire Station #21 behind the Skipper.

Jillian's Moon (Parody of Gilligan's Island)
Lyrics: So sit right back, you will hear this story. A story of a spacey trip.
This started from this launching pad aboard a rocket ship.
The woman is a mighty astronaut. The professor brave and strong.
Other people flew in this rocket for a three weekly long. A three weekly long.
The rocket started going nuts, but the astronauts are fine.
If not for the fixing for the engineer, the rocket goes out of line. The rocket goes out of line!
The rocket landed on the moon, so everything is fine
With Jillian, Amanda also. The engineer and her sister. The media man. With the scientist and his brother too.
Here on Jillian's Moon.
So this is the story for our astronauts. They are here for a very long time.
When this adventure is almost done, they head back to Earth so fine.
For everyone working this hard, they do their very best
To make everything okay for them, they work so hard their best
So long, it is over, we did it great, we take our lives with pride
Our outer space adventure, we get back to Earth so fine.
When we get back to Earth right now, we work in a laboratory.
Our space adventure is the end, so that is our story!
