This song was played at my Father’s funeral in 1968, in California. He died at only 37 years of age. My Dad was a professional trumpet player and U.S. Army Veteran. Today is his 85th birthday. Happy Birthday Dad!!!

Gonzo 1o He's one man, I've been through hundreds of comments on these types of videos. I'm not saying he's telling the truth because I can't be sure, but he's one and if I was old I'd use this to listen to music.

Way more than you'd expect, especially knowing music like this for example from when they were young is available here . For someone who's looking at a song from back then, you sure are disrespectful of older people.

See the smile on his face before he does his piece? He sings the blues, songs about sadness, love lost and love found and yet he smiles about it. What an inspiration. What a great soul. The world needs more Louis Armstrongs :)

It's a bitter and sad smile. If you are black you know it's not a happy smile. He knows some white racists want you to take their violations with a smile or to bend over and kiss their foot. He needed to get the message out and not raise their agression at the same time so he just smiled.

I just thought of this song a couple of day ago. Many people sing this song today in different ways. I'm sure Louis Armstrong, and others of his time, had seen a lot of trouble with all the turmoil in the nation. Many did turn to the Lord for comfort. You could tell he had inner joy that showed in his smile and facial expression. So glad he shared his gift with all of us! Blessings!

This is pure kenosis, self-emptying, that only true artists and spiritual leaders can give to the people, the screaming contrast between his genuine smile and the pain the lyrics suggest sublimates the unbearable pain that ends with "oh glory hallelujah", a masterpiece

In the bible it says cast your troubles onto the Lord. I believe that is what he did. I believe he smiled to show the world his greatness. He smiled because he was the bigger person. I watch these videos in awe and wish i had just a pinch of there courage. I try to smile🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I understand this song was sang at his funeral. Louis Armstrong influence is alive and well. Indeed, no other artist of the past century casts a longer shadow in popular music.
