- Another movie my family, friends and I was apart of. Not sure if they used me in this movie, but i seen my mother in two parts, and my aunt in another. Never seen this movie in over 20 years.
In mid-18th-century Canada, chief Joseph Brant (Mighty Kanienkeha (Mohawk) politician and warrior) attempts to confront the six-nation Indian tribes, about what they wanted to do about the British and the Americans. When skirmishes start to erupt at the Canadian border between American colonists and British troops, Brant must choose between his longstanding loyalty to the British and his sympathies for the American insurrectionists, whose values of freedom and democracy he shares with a passion.

Clayton Julian - My two sons, a sister and myself (members of the KRRNY) were part of the film as well. Think the extras were paid all of $50.00/day plus meals. I was actually wounded in one of the battles - in a swamp. A couple of others stuggling beside my 'revolting' foe and I, bumped into us & shoved my musket's flint across my shin gashing it badly. The lesson learned - never ever carry your musket with the lock facing the body. The Doc, to prevent infection, carved a cone the base of which was the size of a quarter down to the bone, and then sent me home without any pain killers after stitching the wound up. Was off work more than a week without pay from my regular work. . . but the memories are worth een more now. Still have lots of photos. Of the cast, Paul Gross, who played 'Walter Butler' was excellent and kept everyone around him in smiles and laughter. He was just great to be around and knew how to make everyone feel like his friend !
I was paid better than that.

I have been searching for this movie for ages, I watched it when it aired in the 90's. I thank you for posting it so now my Son gets the chance to see it, Meegwetch.
Great film. I recently learned that my direct ancestors had a role to play in the history depicted. They were contemporaries of Joseph Brant and likely fought alongside his men while serving with Butler’s Rangers. They were there at Oriskany. My ancestral great grandfather, a loyalist, ended up being killed in the Schoarie Valley by none other than the sniper Timothy Murphy and a posse of patriot soldiers.
I never realized that there was a film on this brother. VERY ,very grim history that needed to be told. It goes without being said, numerous other tragedies just like this one. Thanks so much for the upload.

I came across this movie purely by accident, & had never heard of Joseph Brant or this movie. I'm so glad I watched it. A great movie about a great Warrior. I'm going to Share this movie over to my FB group Beautiful Native Americans, as I have a number of Canadians in the group, & some might not have seen it. Thank you so much for posting this up.

Your part of Isaac Brant was great, but I didnt know Isaac was a rebellious one, but coming from those times, its understandable why he did what he did...I would have too if I lived in these kind of times...

It's 3:46 am, est, , Dec 7, 2021. All the banter and crowing of 'patriotism'' and militias in the film sound pretty relevant at the moment. Interesting.
My brothers and I were in this my neighbor was the casting director Julie Cosgrove I'm one of the British beggars I got paid 300 dollars for 3 days work mostly waiting around for my scene I was only about 11 I thought I was rich.

It was a cool experience but sort of ruined movies for me knowing how fake everything is there is work involved but it's hard to suspend my disbelief now since I know sets are often just painted cardboard. This was before much CGI too though so at least I know that fire scene is real I went to the premiere too and there was lots of talk about it.

I am seeing this movie for the very first time. I appreciate seeing -and hearing-another aspect to the argument for representation.
My ancestor George fought with Herkimer at Oriskany and 5 other battles.
Sir william and molly are my ancestors i named my son after Joesph.

If only Sir William Johnson was still alive during the Revolutionary War, The Iroquois nations would still have their land and the the confederacy would not have broken up. And probably the patriots would have lost the war. Sir William Johnson was probably the only person to treat the Six Nations as an equal, honest, and fair. After Sir William Johnson died all things went to hell with the Six Nations and they lost all their land to the Patriots, driving them away to Canada. William Johnson in my opinion was a very generous and kind person with a good heart. He did everything in his power to help the Iroquois nations on his expense and time. And that's why William Johnson, like Joseph Brant, are very inspiring historical figures in history during that time period.

We didnt pick the wrong side sometimes even cancer wins. The Oneidas are the ones that sold out. Because of Samuel Kirkland. ALL the founding fathers hated Natives what kind of idiot would he be if he sided with the US? Besides, the Oneida ended up getting fucked over by the US government in 1823. They lost their land and had to go to Wisconsin this is what the US does to its friends. Thayendanegea was right. We were honoring our treaty with the English. Unlike Americans we dont break them Also the US didn't win the war of 1812 and we were a good part of why. 7000 US soldiers invaded our land during that war only half got back to the states alive.
hi: Could you please make a correction to the description - in the mid-18th Century the Haudenosaunee Confederacy (the Six Nations or Iroquois League) had existed for centuries prior. Also I'd prefer if Joseph Brant, was referenced as Mighty Kanienkeha (Mohawk) politician and warrior; Iroquois was\is the language we speak.his Challenge was to ensure a hopeful future for his people, and if that future would come via assisting the British or the Americans during the revolution.
I would add that Iroquois ate other people regularly

A frequently overlooked fact in the US, although it is flat out mentioned in the Declaration of Independence, is that one of the motivations for the American Revolution was precisely the British Crown's refusal to sanction the American colonists' expansion into the West at the expense of Indian rights. It is not surprising then that many native Indians sided with the British in the revolutionary war as the United States, as they correctly feared, proved to be a far more hostile power to them than the Crown.
It is also important to remember that the American Revolution was actually a tale of not one, but two new countries: on one hand, the United States, which went its own way, and, on the other hand, Canada, which remained loyal to the Crown, even though Canada as a separate national polity within the British Empire would not emerge until much later in the 19th century.

I think it's PG for some mild nudity and violence "mature themes".

He was killed far from there near Cahokia by another Native who had a grudge against him for selling lands to the French... Very few historical facts in this movie... 🐺
Pontiac was assassinated on April 20, 1769 near the French town of Cahokia. Most accounts place his murder in Cahokia, but historian Gregory Dowd wrote that the killing probably happened in a nearby Indian village.[25] The killer was a Peoria warrior whose name has not been preserved. He was apparently avenging his uncle, a Peoria chief named Makachinga (Black Dog), whom Pontiac had stabbed and badly wounded in 1766. A Peoria band council had authorized Pontiac's execution. The Peoria warrior came behind Pontiac, stunned him by clubbing him, and stabbed him to death.[26]

That a hard question, what is good for someone else's kid?. When i was that age i watched it, but nowadays parents are weird and kids are soft. Just keep them away from my Rumbleverse videos.

No I would not show it. If you want to show a video about Indigenous history, look up videos created by actual Indigenous people (ex videos done by the Missauga of the Credit First Nations. The first flag that you have to be cautious with this video is the guy playing Tyandenega is a white actor. Tantoo Cardinal playing Molly Brant is Indigenous.
There are better resources for this story for that age.

Unlike some Indigenous nations within Canada, the Mohawks were able to maintain Warrior Societies and traditions. Since the beginning of the colonization of North America, the Mohawks have defeated numerically superior enemy forces through the use of guerrilla warfare tactics.
In 1759, 1,000 Warriors of the Six Nations Confederacy 4,000 British soldiers, defeated 9,000 French troops in open battle. During the war of 1812, 600 Mohawks defeated 7,000 American soldiers, defending Kahnawà:ke. Less than half of the soldiers returned to the US alive. In Upper Canada (now Ontario), 1,000 Mohawks and other Indigenous warriors defeated 10,000 Americunt troops and drove them back into the US. The US did kill Tecumseh so that wasnt all indigenous victory but come on. You got the white house burned down. Did any "Patriots" ever do that to Buckingham Palace? Nope. Cowards. You didn't have Choctaw or Lenape scouts to hide behind over there. The WM is ONLY BRAVE when the odds are in his favor. Technologically or numerically. Physically, one on one, they suck at fighting. This is why they don't dominate in MMA or boxing.
