I watched a programme where he was over in the US on a speed event. You guys said 'we can understand what he says if we're looking at him'. Us Brits have just as much trouble making out what he's saying!

Shows the skill of F1 drivers, at those speeds Button was able to plan his overtake on a corner, know his grip limits, car placement etc
All at the same time as studying what Guy was doing and how Guys car was acting to know he hadn't seen him and what he would do next.

I bet you could do that also after thousands hours of driving race car on a track (and a track he knows every inch of). After some point all the mechanical staff is just a muscle memory, and you can focus on other things, like observing other drivers reactions. Even if that happens in a milliseconds. Our brains are amazing.

Probably got it from actually racing them, bud.. you can’t drop a car, can you.. can’t go over the back wheel of a car, can you.. seems like there might be some balance and coordination required to ride a bike, as well as extreme physical prowess.
Do you control front and rear brakes in a car, or just push stoppy pedal thingo?
Does the positioning of your bodyweight affect the handling of a car?
How many drivers undergo forearm pump surgery just to be able to hang onto the wheel?
There’s a reason why bike guys can transfer to cars and do well, yet car guys couldn’t compete on a bike at amateur club level.
There’s a reason you can go hire a go kart but not a mini bike.
Riding is infinitely more technical than driving, requires more intelligence, fitness, balance, strength, stamina, and definitely a bigger set of nuts.

Not forgotten. Guy Martin and that ooohhh team ! GM rocks of steel ! He had his experience. I had that one experience with James Hunt (retired, on a lap around Silverstone) and knew - as GM says - 'I wasn't in the same league as him.' I left racing in 1981... They are special!

Those high camera shots from tje cars rear, which show the spray rising from the rear of the cosworth on the straight is iconic imagery.
That kind of image always reminds me of martin brundle at spa francorchamps for some reason, and I always loved watching the F1 in the rain.

I am a newcomer to Guy Marins youtube clips and i am a Honda V-TEC enthusiast for over 20 years now. I must say that man this man Guy really does add immense enthusiasm when it comes to the engineering, power and performance which comes from an engine. He is Free Spirited and Mad all at the same time. I can only hope that the SPOOFING environmentalists and Bent governments don't kill off the fantastic petrol engine any time soon. Love this man's madness and enthusiasm!

F1 drivers are a special breed of people, it just isn't possible for someone who haven't driven an f1 car to even come close and if you put one of the F1 drivers in any other car do they still run with the best of that dicipline after just a couple of warmup laps.
I want to think about myself as a fast driver, I can go to a go cart track and use one of the loaner carts and within 10 or so laps am i able to challenge the top 10 leaderboard. it took me 14 laps to get the 7th fastest time ever in the rental carts at the indoor track in Östersund, a track i hadn't driven before, but if you were to put an F1 driver in one of those carts would they not only beat my fastest lap, they would beat the all time fastest lap in those cars and most probably have their worst lap at least as fast as my best one but most probably faster.
I am right now building my very own track day car and i hope that i can get some good speed out of that car. it is a volvo 940 with a volvo t5 engine which i aim to make around 350 horses on the wheels, preferably more. problem with a project like this one is the fact that i don't have that much money so it takes some serious time to finish, and since i have a second car that i am restoring does the time i spend on the 940 decrease signifficantly.
