Jay Trock Yeah I know I hate modern stuff, I like bikes and cars, but car racers get so arrogant as If they are better pilots, with advantages that are not typically fair, then make the bikes look crap cause of over compensation with extra laps and stuff
@@yeshua9323 f1 cars don't use traction control. Also why take away the downforce? It's nature of a car to have downforce (or lift) You wanna take away the downforce from the f1 car then put on weight to the bike, because "it's not fair"
Great video! I enjoyed the attitudes of the competitors. It was entertaining and in good fun. The comparison is simply based on three major factors: 1) power to weight ratio - this is why the bike can take off from the starting line faster, but that's the only time that makes a difference 2) two tires braking power versus four: double the coefficient of friction. This was clearly demonstrated in the final pass. 3) most significantly - the centrifugal force in the turns: the relativity of the mass of the human against the centre of mass of the vehicle. On the bike the mass of the human is both a significantly higher % of the total mass, and that mass is also outside the centre of gravity of the vehicle - hence the need for the human to move his mass to counter the centrifugal force in the corners. If the bike could theoretically lay right down on it's side then the bike could go through the turns just as fast. The mass of the driver of the car is located very close to the centre of gravity of the car, which alone makes for the most significant reason why the car does not roll over. The added two wheels and down draft from the fins are also significant factors, but to a lesser extent. You could take the fins right off the car, and it would still soundly defeat the bike. It might not be by as much margin, but the bike still stands no chance because of the physics of the centrifugal force and two wheels versus four being able to counteract that force.
@@user-rd5nc1nb9f Mark Higgins in a rally car lapped the TT course at 129mph.Fastest speed was 170mph.Would love to see an F1 car tackle the Mountain Course but can't ever see it happening.Back in 1967 there was talk of Mike Hailwood on the Honda 500 taking on John Surtees in the Honda F1car over 1 lap of the TT course. But of course it never happened!
those cars are fast and would smoke any bike at sheer amount of top speed and downforce momentum...however they're extremely flimsy and would annihilate themselves on a mountain terrain with even the smallest bump in the road
Do not know why people are complaining that they used a production oriented bike. Even with a MotoGP bike, the fastest time is still 30 seconds slower than the F1 car. The sheer grip added from downforce means entry, mid, and exit speeds in corners is much higher. Braking and acceleration can be much more aggressive because of no fear of flipping. I love bikes, and for the money, not much can beat them, but against F1, nothing really stands a chance on a racetrack, other than another F1 car, and maybe Indy setup with high downforce.
wolverhampton biker It easily goes with all the rest of the bickering back and forth too. Can easily say throw the GP or TT on a Finnish or Sweden rally with a Group B or Group A car. Oh the drag strip with a top bike? pro mod, pro stock, alcohol classes will match it easy, funny and top fuel destroy it. In the end, with normal prices not a free car, the bike will be faster than a car dollar for dollar. But until much stickier tires, more lean angle, and somehow a dynamic downforce system that can be used in straights and turns are added to a bike, good luck.
they should have raced at dundrod , would have been funny to see coulthard shit himself before he went into a field and wrecked the f1 car and have a farmer threaten him for killing his cows
camokoy As much as that is an awesome street circuit, it is an entirely bias race to the bike. Like the comment I made before, Silverstone is the fairest place they really could have gone. Both vehicle classes race there, while four wheeled vehicles all but stopped racing Dundrod, though they still are on RAC.
***** bikes accelerate better cars corner and brake better but if you mix the two you get the best a smartzuki , a smart car with a hayabusa engine, twice the power to weight ratio of a Bugatti Veyron for ten grand
ThePointlessBox_ Absolutely true. No bike can compete with the downforce on these cars. Never said it would change who’s the fastest. I’d just like to see how much the split would be with the fastest race bikes in the world. In reality I’d just like to see Guy grinning ear to ear at the prospect of riding a GP bike flat out. It would take him awhile to get used to it.
thats why sportbikes are awesome: they are cheaper than the F1 cars steering wheel, but can achieve 3/4 of it''s pace. Its not a bad thing, since the f1 is a fkin monster :)
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. Two awesome icons with massive respect for each other getting to explore different worlds. Boys and and their toys, lucky devils.
Well even just a Subaru WRX has lapped there at roughly the same speed as the fastest superbikes. An F1 car would need some modification to survive the bumps I expect, but it would of course slaughter the lap record.
Who of us can truly say they’ve had the privilage of racing against a world championship winning F1 car in anger on a super bike? Very very few indeed. Awesome moment in time captured gentlemen👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻
Wouldnt say its fair to compare something with a whole lot of electronics and aero with something that doesnt have any of them.Yeah, the bike has some traction control but thats pretty much it.To be fair they would have to compare the top of both worlds and would use a gp bike. Not an sbk.Bike would still be slower though. And i m not saying anything about the difference in cost between the 2
+MrKdr500 The result would have been the same, especially if you used a faster F1 car like a 2004 V10 F1 car with 950hp or the 2016 V6 turbo hybrids with also 950hp, lap times and straight line performance is much better than this V8 shit.
The bumps would tear a hole through the floorboards and leave exposed bum. And the jumps might leave some room for air to get under and flip over the car.
@@wu-wisdom2064 1 colulthard actually had that happen once due to suspension problem. it burnt ihis arse haha. 2 the car wouldnt get airbourne over the crests because of the ridiculous downforce
@@Scoobydcs Lots of the IOM lap the car wouldn't reach the speeds to create that downforce, we're basically talking about country roads two lanes wide driven on daily even before and after racing by lorries, cars and bikes spilling diesel and other fluids, its not a flat surface anywhere either and then theres the trees, the stone walls the street furniture which is why you get zero moto gp guys doing the TT and I suspect those car heroes would think the same way about all that too. It takes a special kind of racer to compete in the TT.
I'm happy with the result, but I'd like to see it with a motogp bike and rider on a circuit which gives a bit less downforce advantage. I'm sure the F1 car would still win, but I don't think this test was a particularly fair one.
2'03.308 Jorge Lorenzo motogp Vs. 2'04.091 Cal Crutchlow wsbk Around silverstone. It's not that much between them now and would have put Cal 5th on the motogp grid on his superbike. I love motor bike racing of any kind 👍👍
John Stots, you really miss the point: 4 wheels will always beat 2 wheels in this environment. Simple science. But is like comparing David and Goliath, what the 1000cc two wheel bike manages is phenomenal in comparison and is no where near the expense and cost of an F1 car. Also takes a braver man to ride the bike at these speeds as not protected by a big sissy cage. Top speed difference is just 10mph, is the corners car beats bike, 4 very large wide wheels, 4 sets of brakes with the bike having half this. Under these circumstances the bike is simply fecking awesome!!
john lightbody since when does an open wheel F1 car have a cage you fucking idiot you obviously don't know shit and he didn't miss the point he was letting people know who keep saying it should have been a GP bike that it wouldn't matter.
It takes far more skill to ride the bike. I would like to see a video where Guy is in the car and David is on the bike and see who can get closest to the others time. David would not stand a chance!!
they have a full team and there is only two of us, doesn't matter if you had a million people on guys team, the F1 bike will always be inferior to an F1 car, end off.
Hang on - Superbike versus Formula 1....!!!??? Bit unfair to the bike - yes, it still would be faster, but shouldn't it be a MotoGP bike versus Formula 1 - top of the 'heap' for both 4 wheels and two wheels????
i mean doesnt really matter it would be seconds. keep in mind one of these superbikes is like max 120,000$ while an f1 car is like 40 million dollars. in terms of cost it isnt entirely fair

YESS on cornering and braking its a no brainer however s motogp bike is a totally different animal still wouldn't touch a f1 car in the corners sbd braking but it would have won over a 3 lap vs 4 lap with s motogp rider.. Also a motogp bike has higher top speed then v6-v8 and v10 on every track they compete on the same track higher top speed that says somthing about the insane acceleration of the motogp bike..
+Steve Hash Not really, but generally yes. The highest speed achieved by an f1 car on a race track was at monza in 2005, 372-373kph. The highest speed achieved by a motogp bike is 360-365kph, I believe.

GSA didn't know beating Hakkinen in 1997 and 2001 and finishing 2nd and 3rd many times amongst 24 drivers was midpack. That said, True midpackers would still be amongst the 10-12 best in the world. He beat Barichello in an inferior car 2000-2001. No one would beat Schumie in an equal car let alone those magnificent Ferraris from 2000-2004. To me Barichello,Alesi,Villeneuve,Trulli,Ralf and DC were on a similar level but in 2001 DC or Ralf was the 2nd best driver in the world which is not midpack. Frentzen was close to those guys but did worse in 1997 than DC did in 1998-2001 so the pressure got to him even more. Harald didn't have many mechanical dnfs like DC did. Guy competed in a lower level form of bike racing. His success is much like Yoongs in the A1 GP.
GSA By his last two seasons in qualifying...sure but he outpointed Webber till his final season. Webber was well down the standings too in 2007-2008. The car wasn't really good until 2009 which was after DC retired in 2008. Webber was not a midpacker either just because he didn't win the championship.
@@markjurczyk Red Bull were a mid table team 'til 2010 (the car DC helped develop and test drive after retiring in 2008) then they won 4 straight titles 2010-2013, so DC never competed with Red Bull when they were "any good".
Show's like this, 2 seater moto gp bike and 2 seater F1 car are such entertainment. What fun for us if the 2 seaters were brought back to televised meetings.
I remember seeing this when it was aired on tv and not being happy with the pair up. It’s a a silly comparison to compare a championship winning f1 car and one of the cars best ex drivers in f1 to go with it against guy Martin on a superbike ( if it was even a real full blown superbike at that)..No offence to guy Martin as he’s a legend on a bike but how about using a championship winning MotoGP bike from the same year as the f1 car and driver, say Casey stoner on a factory Honda or Ducati for instance..?? The car would still win of course as there is no way the bike can put the power down in the corners compared to the savage corner speed of the f1 car but a much better comparison with a same version in the bike world to the car..??
The skill required to ride any fast bike is unparalleled!!! They are incredible machines!!! Not to take anything away from F1 drivers, but since the era of the 80s and 90s, the cars are just a laptop with wheels!

+markurbancowboy On an asexual, pristine track, i might add... Lets see these two go at it in real world conditions, on the Isle of man TT, or NW200. One bump and its all over for the F1.
+fahrvergnügen I doubt we'll see 1000hp, Bernie was shooting that down in flames last year. the 450 rear tyres are almost certain
Totally awesome, much thanks to both drivers and their team for making this happen!
The car and bike cannot be compared. Car has much more down force and much larger contact patch . well Done Guy!
I agree there is no comparison. As we clearly see, bikes are terribly slow.
theerealrossi rb holy shit rocket scientist over here
These two childish replies, I tell you what fat boys get a fast bike and see how you get on you will both shit yourselves.
It's only for a bit of fun and entertainment at the end of the day
Guy just got done racing an F1 car and as soon as he's done, he's knee on the ground putting his own warmers on the bike. Love him.
Guy says “a hundred percent!”... the captions say “honk upset...”
Guy Martin amazes me he lights up about being a f-1 mechanic he just loves all aspects of the sport he's an amazing man the more I learn the more I wish I could just hang out with him for a day and just listen to him talk about things his passion reminds me of a kid when he gets his first dirt bike and it never went away for him and I love that what a great man he is and can he ride the wheels off a bike 2018 I hope he wins the senior tt he's won everything else
All about the corners. Love motogp but there is no way you can compete with huge down force and 4 wheels. Pull away in straights.
+Jay Trock make it fair take away down force and traction control, then go to Isle of mann
lloyd brown Don't forget motorcycle have traction control too. I agree that would be interesting. Love to see the F1s do the jumps.
Jay Trock
Yeah I know I hate modern stuff, I like bikes and cars, but car racers get so arrogant as If they are better pilots, with advantages that are not typically fair, then make the bikes look crap cause of over compensation with extra laps and stuff
@@yeshua9323 f1 cars don't use traction control.
Also why take away the downforce? It's nature of a car to have downforce (or lift)
You wanna take away the downforce from the f1 car then put on weight to the bike, because "it's not fair"
@@adodoes8770 ? please watch video again, he clearly says do you want TC to David Cooltard

This was about as unevenly matched as an office chair race between Jo Brand and Warwick Davis
+digitalsketchguy Don't underestimate the importance of momentum
😂
Great video! I enjoyed the attitudes of the competitors. It was entertaining and in good fun.
The comparison is simply based on three major factors:
1) power to weight ratio - this is why the bike can take off from the starting line faster, but that's the only time that makes a difference
2) two tires braking power versus four: double the coefficient of friction.
Bet David can't keep up with Guy on Isle of Mann
I'd genuinely like to see an F1 car try to lap the mountain course... i don't know if it would even fit.
To be fair, no one can do that. lol
It's an F1 it would destroy the bikes at every turn
Fantastic clip @North One- all the best from Norway
Do not know why people are complaining that they used a production oriented bike. Even with a MotoGP bike, the fastest time is still 30 seconds slower than the F1 car. The sheer grip added from downforce means entry, mid, and exit speeds in corners is much higher. Braking and acceleration can be much more aggressive because of no fear of flipping. I love bikes, and for the money, not much can beat them, but against F1, nothing really stands a chance on a racetrack, other than another F1 car, and maybe Indy setup with high downforce.
yep . exactly what I thought
wolverhampton biker It easily goes with all the rest of the bickering back and forth too.
Awesome awesome stuff. Great sportsmanship. Glad these teams could get together for some fun like this!
Should use a MotoGP bike. Maximum 2 wheels vs Maximum 4 wheels.
Not gonna lie. I’d mainly just really like to see Guy Martin on a GP prototype bike. 😉
I think guy his current bike is faster then a motogo one honestly... since its also his bike of iomtt
Godz Fear
GP bikes are the fastest track bikes in the world. It’s not even close. Nearly 1/2 the weight and 250+ horsepower.
The moto GP bikes are still slower around a track compared to the F1 cars
ThePointlessBox_
Absolutely true.
I am amazed at the level of passion Guy has for life and speed and in general for having fun. I would like to meet him for a pint one day!
thats why sportbikes are awesome: they are cheaper than the F1 cars steering wheel, but can achieve 3/4 of it''s pace. Its not a bad thing, since the f1 is a fkin monster :)
id bet my mx5 cost less than 1 of the bikes tyres and its probably half as fast round the lap lol
Nothing but respect for both worlds✌️
The two best accents in motorsport !
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. Two awesome icons with massive respect for each other getting to explore different worlds. Boys and and their toys, lucky devils.
How about a rematch on the TT course?
Hey. That would be a good one.
Now lets see them both on the TT course...
+Con Kawa Or in rally Finland!
+Your Friend True, though i wasnt talking about the drivers, but about the vehicles. They always compare them one way or another
Con Kawa
Sacrasm detector didn't go off? Point is nothing is more fair then driving them on a track like this.
And i m not saying anything about the difference in cost between the 2
+Your Friend Or on the Yungas Road. :D
A fabulous display of respect for what the OTHER racer does. Wish I could see a similar display in ANY venue in the US...
Should have put Guy in the F1 and David on the Bike afterwards and had best of two.😆
Two gentlemen of racing right here. If there's a sweeter sound than an F1 or a superbike, I've never heard it.
Obviously 4 wheels is faster but, but if you put up the formula one of 4 wheels then shouldn't the bike have been a motogp bike?
+MrKdr500 yes and yes
+MrKdr500 The result would have been the same, especially if you used a faster F1 car like a 2004 V10 F1 car with 950hp or the 2016 V6 turbo hybrids with also 950hp, lap times and straight line performance is much better than this V8 shit.
F1sasha errrm 1:33:401 for the f1
Lap times between superbikes ad motogp bikes is pretty small actually.
Robert Wood Lewis Hamilton pole lap F1 2017 1:26.600 :D

Let's see a rematch at the IOMTT. :)
The bumps would tear a hole through the floorboards and leave exposed bum. And the jumps might leave some room for air to get under and flip over the car.
@@wu-wisdom2064
1 colulthard actually had that happen once due to suspension problem. it burnt ihis arse haha.
2 the car wouldnt get airbourne over the crests because of the ridiculous downforce
@@Scoobydcs even if it did jump,it will come down hard enough to break the suspension and the drivers spine
@@fornicateu2 f1 cars genetrate over 1g downforce at 60mph! theyd have to be going slower than that to get airborne

Should of used the Kawasaki H2r or a moto gp Ducati
Joel Warren Fishing you know that bike is probably faster
I was flying the filming helicopter for the 2 days, it was a lot of fun. The TV program shows a lot more tasks between them.
I'm happy with the result, but I'd like to see it with a motogp bike and rider on a circuit which gives a bit less downforce advantage. I'm sure the F1 car would still win, but I don't think this test was a particularly fair one.
2'03.308 Jorge Lorenzo motogp
Vs.
2'04.091 Cal Crutchlow wsbk
Around silverstone.
Under these circumstances the bike is simply fecking awesome!!
john lightbody since when does an open wheel F1 car have a cage you fucking idiot you obviously don't know shit and he didn't miss the point he was letting people know who keep saying it should have been a GP bike that it wouldn't matter.
john lightbody oh and look up the amount of death's in F1 compared to Moto GP and see which is more dangerous.
Chaos Fruitbat I like to see f1 and motor gp on a straight way see how fast they go
Very special very much enjoyed that Extremely!
It takes far more skill to ride the bike. I would like to see a video where Guy is in the car and David is on the bike and see who can get closest to the others time. David would not stand a chance!!
Guy Martin the ultimate racer and what a top man to totally down to earth
Love F1, too much of a p*ssy to ever ride a bike that fast and guy Martin is a living legend. Such a cool vid.
Great video, love the mutual respect between them both and there machines.
they have a full team and there is only two of us, doesn't matter if you had a million people on guys team, the F1 bike will always be inferior to an F1 car, end off.
Entertaining for sure. Great guys having a go at each other.
" just a 21 second lead " this guy knows nothing
Love these 2 lads ... top video.
Brilliant video. Love Guy Martin.
And F1 car destroys a Motogp bike around the track too. They are just impressive machines.
+Dimitry “Dino” Tirenosr You're dead right mate. People want to see the extreme limits of what's possible not hobbled, generic machines. And I say same goes for the Olympics. Man, Take every steroid your body can take then get out there and go crazy.
+Fletcher DeMaine There are morals that we have to uplift and stick to. Using steroids will harm or even kill a person in the long term, just like too much speed is reckless and dangerous. I get that it's interesting and it would allow some amazing action, but at the same time you have to consider the dangers.
LEARN TO READ i said on the SAME TRACK THEY COMPETE IN gz fucking christ and no f1 wont touch motogp on top speed ON SAME TRACK.. On china GP F1 v10 was hitting 336kph motogp 354kph on catalunya f1 v10 334kph motogp 349kph

Just wish I could understand what he's saying!
2 legends and 2 lovely guys.
why don't people just get it in there head nothing beats an f-1 car not Evan gp bikes.
Guy Martin is a legend , David Coulthard just mid packer in F1
Adam Petten What about racing for best team Red Bull ? What did he accomplish there ? Guy was a mid packer , that’s all
GSA By his last two seasons in qualifying...sure but he outpointed Webber till his final season. Webber was well down the standings too in 2007-2008. The car wasn't really good until 2009 which was after DC retired in 2008. Webber was not a midpacker either just because he didn't win the championship.
13 F1 wins and 62 podiums is better than midpack. Schumi and Mika were his main rivals. That's serious company.
@@markjurczyk Red Bull were a mid table team 'til 2010 (the car DC helped develop and test drive after retiring in 2008) then they won 4 straight titles 2010-2013, so DC never competed with Red Bull when they were "any good".

Highly doubt that MotoGP bike can go as fast around corners as that F1 car. Also, that's the V8 F1, the V10s are even faster.
should have been a moto gp bike against a formula 3 car
Loved this! F1 cars are really something else.
Just look at lap times from silverstone buddy. The F1 cars are still lapping motogp bikes in 3 laps.
The skill required to ride any fast bike is unparalleled!!!
They are incredible machines!!!
Not to take anything away from F1 drivers, but since the era of the 80s and 90s, the cars are just a laptop with wheels!
F1 cars sound so shit now, makes me so sad :(

+Ian Excalibur Guy's huge brass balls slow him down... im sorry but everyone is a pussy compared to superbike road racers.
+Francis def Why don't you put a road bike, with their normal racing tyres into the swedish rally championship round. That's pretty much the same comparison

Lol. The rally cars are almost as sketchy as the bikes. Can't remember the dude's name, but the guy who runs an STi every year has had some massive moments on the TT course
so you're saying that if a rally car can do it (slower) a formula one car can do it too?
with proper suspension and tyres why not it's already a new trend in u.s. desert they turn superbikes in to off-road monsters
