you could actually argue that it's Zeus' fault, he wanted to mary thetis (so did poseidon) but if he would have, their child would become more powerful than zeus himself due to a prophecy that said thetis' son would become more powerful than his father. zeus obviously didn't want to take that chance and made sure he controlled who thetis eventually married, he then throws them a big engagement/wedding party BUT does't invite eris, that's why she (understandibly) got mad (also can't neglect Paris' choice which actually set of the war, you can argue that it might not have happened if he had chosen power over someone else's wife)

Proteus really gets the short end of the stick. He trusted his life to a man who was literally ready to let him died and he only got saved because Simbad grew a conscious, not because of their friendship, but because he and Proteus girlfriend fell in love...

I don't think Simbad suddenly grew a conscience, otherwise he wouldn't have saved Proteus from being dragged by the tentacle. Also he seemed really bothered when Marina told him that if she were him she would not be able to sleep knowing her friend is going to die because of her. If it weren't for Marina maybe Simbad would have left Proteus die but he would have regretted it for the rest of his life.

Honestly, I doubt Proteus was ever in love with Marina. He had a lot of appreciation and respect for her of course, which is why he wouldn't mind marrying her. And he knew that since he was a prince and all, he could offer her a comfortable life. But he still wanted to prioritize *her* wants and aspirations. Personally I think that makes him a very good character and it adds more depth to his relationship with Marina. It's not love but it's mutual respect and understanding.

though makes sense since Eris started everything from being bored. She wanted a little fun, something to pass the time. Which is why it’s amusing watching the last scene with Eris when she says “places to go, stuff to steal”. This entire film’s plot was really just one of countless passtimes Eris was half heartedly invested in since she just sees humans as simple and easy to predict. Gosh I love Eris.

And we can see that he was kinda right to take off? She was with him for, what, 10 days and that was enough for her to decide she wanted to go off with him-

Sinbad is the most prolific hero in Arabian folklore. He's got 7-8 whole stories all to himself. Both Arabia and Greece had a huge presence on the Mediterranean sea and thus there was a lot of cross pollination in story telling. They kind of mixed him with the Greek story of Perseus here. Just watch "Clash of the Titans", either the older one or the remake, and you'll see the parallels.

Sinbad stories are already influenced by greek mythology, so it wouldn't have been that hard to tell the same story and still acknowledge his origin. Doesn't mean I don't like the movie though.

Sinbad's stories make a LOT of references to Greek mythology, which makes sense because the early Arabs did a lot of trade with the greeks and later the Romans.
In particular, his third, four, and fifth voyage (each a separate story) might as well just be the Odyssey.

Sinbad isn't Greek, it's Arabic. His adventures, The Seven Voyages of Sinbad, are one of three of the most famous stories found in the 1001 Arabian Nights, to further complicate things though all three of these renowned tales (Sinbad, Aladdin, and Ali Baba) weren't in the original collection, they were added 300 years after, by a French, Arabic translator, by the name of Antoine Galland. Legend has it that when he was translating 1001 Nights he heard these tales from a Syrian storyteller in 1704, he liked them so much that he added them to his translations, and when they were translated into other languages the stories followed with them, and the rest is history.

Second, this guy BETRAY his best friend just to find treasures; Simbad also don't really care if Proteus is executed or not, he likes more adventure than his BEST FRIEND! Oh and he is super impolite with her for no good reason; saying stuff like '' Womens can't be on ships! '' all the time. The worst, the '' hero '' don't really learned a lesson at the end. He just leave Proteus to sailed with Marina. Simbad NEVER appologises for his rude attitude with her or his betrayal... if he did, it wasn't honest. I am supposed to root for him?
