  • Tom Murphy has been photographing Yellowstone for over 40 years. But assignments aren't his thing, so he's constantly searching for something different to set his work apart.
Some Call It Home shares stories about people who protect and promote nature and wildlife coexistence. In our first collection of shorts, we visited Yellowstone National Park with an acclaimed natural history photographer, park ranger, trails superintendent and geologist.
    Featuring Tom Murphy
    Created by Nick Stone Schearer
Cinematography by Nick Stone Schearer & Ian Ziatyk
    Special Thanks to Rachel Cudmore

Tom is such a humble and gracious person that truly cares about what he photographs and why he photographs it. I'm happy to have met him and hope to again in the future. Great series you have going so far. Looking forward to following along with you in it.

I'll make it there one day to photograph. Stuck on an island in the middle of the Pacific, but at least there's endemic birds here.

Totally agree with you. Shoot what you want when you want. Assignments are for people more interested in money and making a living rather than photography.

Great Images! We are planning a trip to Yellowstone for the first time in June. I have been a professional photographer for over 30 years making a living photographing what other people want me to photograph. Love your view on your photography.

Understandable why it seems that way, but Tom is well known for traversing the park in winter by ski - alone and for days at a time. Unfortunately we couldn’t join him!

It's absolutely breathtaking at Yellowstone! HOWEVER . . . when my family visited when I was 17 years old (40 years ago) if I had known it was a volcano, I would have NEVER gotten off the plane!!! I am a Florida gal and I would take a hurricane over a volcano or earthquake any day!!!

"If you are a legitimate wildlife photographer, you spend time every year in Yellowstone" I admit that Yellowstone is a great wildlife park and have visited there but....Tom it's not the only place for wildlife photography.

For us photographers that call Yellowstone home, we spend the majority of our time here. I do get over to the Tetons and up to Glacier at least once a year, but Yellowstone has something new to show you every single day.
