Irvin, fairly sure you have what you said back to front. Been a very long time since I touched a car with points, but from what I remember from my College days nearly 40 years ago, the coil saturates while the points are closed not open. The points opening is what caused it to jump from the primary windings to the secondary windings in the coil (causing the spark). Also remember learning to increase the dwell you decrease the gap. Which also falls in line with it saturating while the points are closed.

Azn, the idea behind the oil bath, was the heavier dirt particles would keep traveling in a straight line and collect in the oil, the lighter non dirty air would simply turn the corner and go into the engine. Wasn't as much an air filter, as it was a larger particle separator. Physics / gravity working at its best.

It was stored in a barn under a HUGE thatch of loose hay for $100. It had ZERO RUST, DENTS, LIKE BRAND NEW. I put $400 in brakes, tires, bleeding fluids, plugs etc, etc. THAT truck and straight 6 ran like a top....40-45mph tops all day. Hello all the way from North Carolina! I love that truck!! I'm a Chevy guy anyway but I loved those 40's & 50's body styles, in fact I liked their looks up until about 1973 or whenever they went to that truck that was as square as a shoebox. For me, that's when Chevy trucks went downhill as far as looks goes. That truck you've got there will make a damn good street rod, and you could even use it to pull a one car trailer to events with one of your other cars on it, now that would be what I call showing up in style!! I'm sure that you will build a really nice, good looking truck that's not just a trailer queen! I can't wait to see some races with that old Caddy, the haunted hurst! I used to have a friend who had a '57 Caddy hurst and we used to all pile in there and go to concerts in it, then later on another friend bought a '59 and he fixed that thing up with a coffin in the back and he used to get drunk and get in that coffin and pass out, and had caused many people to freak out, including this one small town cop named Festus Liles. From then on out every time Raymond would drive that thing through the town he would stop him but the 2nd time he stopped the car he looked at Raymond and said, wait a minute, I remember you from the last time I stopped this car, you were the guy laying in the coffin in the back there, and for a second or two that cop turned as white as a sheet and had this puzzled look on his face as he took off his hat and scratched his head. From then on out he had it out for Raymond because he didn't have a sense of humor at all, in fact he had all the personality of a rock! Lol...I just wanted to share that true story with you guys because I know you two have a good sense of humor!! Thanks for making these videos for all of us to watch. Take care guys and, I pray that God will bless you in so many ways, and take care of you two for many more days. I was a poet and didn't even know it!

@@sirpoppz - It’s not about the $. It’s all about the fun with F&A and a serious race car is all work and not much fun.

Great to see you guys havin fun! Always entertaining. I would however quit using the radiator to open the points. Pull on that old girl in the wrong spot and she’s gonna let you know about it by peeing coolant all over the place. Congratulations on the new show opportunity! You guys deserve it and very happy to have you guys back. Quality TV right there brothers!!

If thats a non full-flow splash lube engine, make sure you DO NOT rev it at all much past idle when warming up until the thermostat opens and in general do not rev it much past 3000rpm in normal driving as the babbit aint as flexible as insert bearings and rebuilding is a different task (if the parts are available) , maybe he plans an SBC conversion we'll see
