  • Welcome to my guitar lesson on "Breezy Dog"! In this video, I'll teach you how to play this solo flatpicking tune that I wrote. This simple melody is designed to demonstrate a powerful concept used by the legendary flatpicker Dan Crary.

Short and sweet! A great little tune that introduces an important technique, all in five minutes. Glad I subscribed!

This is a great lesson to try, but I have a back log of dozens of unfinished tunes! One issue with me is that if I try to play the G chord this way my middle finger " sausage" touches the third string even on my Eastman with an 1 3/4 " nut. There are a many songs I sing where I use the first finger and pinkie this way around a D chord such as "Eight more miles to Louisville". I also work this with G with third finger on second string third fret and don't play the first string . The second finger does nothing until I move chords. I play like this with "Catfish John" and I tried the Dan Crary lick you showed and that worked for me. Just my way of dealing with a problem. Great job!

My pinky always needs work, it is weak. I'll give it try when my Collings comes back to me.
