Hi guys, I am Alex.
I am an Ukrainian expat who moved to Portugal.
No one in my family ever did any farming, But I discovered that I am very passionate about farming so recently I've purchased this 28 hectares Farm in Central Portugal, with the intention to start a small scale farm raising worms, cattle and sheep.
In this little farm I am also planning to build an off grid home, and be as self sufficient as possible, by growing my own food.
I created this channel to share my journey with the world, The journey of a first generation farmer, that is starting with no prior knowledge and experiences.
That maybe all the mistakes that I will make along this journey, and all the fails maybe will help some of you to learn from my mistake and not make them yourself.
I want to bring value and inspire people who are thinking about farming.
I am not a filmmaker or an editor, I am just a simple guy with a camera.
So if it is interesting to you, subscribe to the channel and you will not miss the upcoming episodes.

Not only is your "four legged friend" the building supervisor, but, also quality control.......to him/her, smell is very important. Love that guy. So friendly and wants to part of the work crew. Cheap labor. Never see you feeding him.
I have two Jack Russell Terriers that just want to be everywhere I am, this is priceless.
Loved the "ladder walk"
I can see that your sweet lamb loves you, however, I think she especially loves your father! I really enjoy seeing her inspect all your work too! hahaha
I love it how that sheep likes to stay around the humans.... 😍
i just love the sheep and how you treat her with so much love ande care.
Your father is worth his wheight in gold!
It`s good to see your Father wearing a Back brace for when he lifts items. i do hope you both wear Safety Glasses when working with power tools and Brick work
Well done, Alex, Dad & Angela! ❤️
The sheep is a symbol of innocence & cultivating the tender aspects of ourselves. The mulberry tree is a symbol of great abundance:
“Mulberry signals a time of great abundance and beauty. We are being encouraged to enjoy all that nature provides while creating sustainable and sharable solutions that improve the lives of others.”
It seems you’re truly Blessed ✨💛✨
Thank you ZOE 😊
Keep being awesome :)
Angelic,is so sweet, she sure no’s how to tell you it’s time to play. Great work again. Best wishes from Australia
That carne de porco à alentejana had a very good look, that's my favorite food. Keep the good work.
That wooden cement thingy is soooo smart! Nice job!
Angela wants to play after her inspection. You and your dad are a great team , wow walls going up everywhere !
Thank you Jean ))
Angela is a diva!! Loves her time in front of the camera, needs to be in the middle of things!! Her head butting you I think was her trying to exert dominance over you!!
I suspect your dad is an experienced tradesman. Watching him move the ladder while on it makes me think, he's done that before!!
As a suggestion: there is the concept of "aging in place". It means build today a structure you can live your whole life in. Make doors wide enough (36") to accommodate wheelchairs, scooters, walkers. You have the perfect place, ground level etc to do that. Your parents are with you, they might require that accommodation long before you but plan for it now, it is much more cost effective to do it to start with than having to rip stuff out and redo it later.
Well done, I enjoy watching you and your dad work, the way you figure things out, the tools you use etc...
Hugs from 🇨🇦

Angela: star of videos and wooly apprentice! Get that girl a tool belt 🐑😍 Great progress !
What you had for lunch is one of my favorite meals 😋, I soak up all the sauce with my bread 😊😊😊
Was that chicken piri-piri?
@@donnacosta5633 no, it has small cubed pork and potatoes and small clams, with white wine and spices 😊
Alex you and your father work so well together, good to see. And the ‘star’ of your channel thinks she’s a dog. It’s hilarious. Can’t wait until next week and seeing more wall action. Best wishes.
Sweet...experienced wall builder..liked watching a master brick layer. And the walking ladder...wow..job well done..👨🌾🚜👨🌾🌠🌠🌠👍👍
Excellent work and craftsmanship.
Looking great! If your wondering where you should be standing... just look where Angela is and you will know... lol😀
Team work. All hands on deck including Angela 😁👏. She is contributing every bit she can. Angela said: don't stop me from helping 🤣🤣
Alex, indeed she is the star, you guys are taking the 2nd place 😂❤
hahah :D
The natural stone is so beautiful!
Ángela es la jefa de obra.
Muy buen trabajo.
Suerte
Haha, yea ))
I really like what you are doing. I hope you stay with the channel long enough that we get to see a finished product
I hope so too ))
Inspector Angela keeps a close watch on workmanship and progress - seems quite pleased 😊
That mortar jig made the process go so fast. Smart idea! Looking so neat and clean. Looks amazing.
Thank you 😊
But this jig is also the reason for wasting lots of mortar. Mortar is only needed at the sides; at least one third i.e. the middle of every layer is there for ???
@@christiankoellner7542 remind me not to visit any house that you built.
Love how precise your father is working the wall build. Angela is hilarious how she has to be starring attraction and also "helping", she's like a cat (the ones that like to keep close to their people). Cool to see the build come u jus as you diagrammed it.
Looks like Angela said its time for a play break!
Hahah yeah ))
The walls are looking great. Funny how Angela always wants to see what you are doing.
hi, Alex,! step by step your dream is taking shape ..
Love your mortar scoop! Best one I've ever seen and I've seen a few. I ❤it!!! And the mortar jig...faster and gorgeous lines... and Angela approved. Also love how she upstages you, when she think she needs some camera time she just walks in a takes it, she's a pro at steeling scenes. Except for Dad on the ladder stilts...that's pretty awesome!!!
Thank you Aunty Tutu ))
Yeah Angela indeed loves the camera ))
Well done and a good companion sheep 🙂
I do love how you work around the Star, does she have her own dressing room to relax in? It's moving along so well, can't wait to see what's next!
Great video, keep an eye on your bonding😁
Hi Nick,
Will do ))
Beautiful craftsmanship - well done Alex's Dad!!
it looks like your dad is skilled in masonry. its looking good
Good work! I love “Angela”. She is really a star in your story ❤️
Gosh, your dad makes it look so easy that I think I can lay bricks too now! 🙂 PS: the bees (or were they wasps?) were making babies! Love how nosey Angelica is, she so wants to be part of the action.
Haha ))
Your father and you are doing a great job keep it up
Wow! Great looking job! Your Dad is a Pro. The house will be beautiful when you get it done. 🙂👍👍👍
you both work hard well done
Good workmanship & great progress. Angela is adorable, she is more like a faithful dog than a sheep.
Thank you Geoff🙏
The place is starting to come together. Congratulations
It’s starting to look amazing Alex. You and your dad work so well together, it’s lovely to watch.
We certainly know who the boss is... Angelica...🐑😂 ..She did make me laugh when she butted you.. bless her...Will you get more animals when you move in?
Thank you Wendy,
Haha yeah I laughed as well rewatching that, it was so funny :D
She is a playful girl ))
Yes I will be getting alot more animals ))
hi! I'm no bee expert but there are some " independent" kinds of bees, like carpenter bees who live alone and make individual nests in tree bark or old wood and apparently you caught them at a very intimate moment, making bee babies LOL
Wow! that was amazing progress, so good to see this turning into a home. I do think that Angela has decided to be the Building Inspector, bless her 🙂
Great job on the walls !
Thank you 🙏
Always great when you stop tearing bits down and start building things up.
Wow 👍💪
Your dad is a magnificent builder. I've seen builders working before. He is thorough. That house will be a neat piece of work when you are done. Must say, I've heard of many kinds of pets, but yours are the sweetest. On who's bed will she sleep? 😉 😀 😃
Your building is beginning to take shape now Alex. Looking really good!!
Thank you Lyn ))
Hi Alex and Dad. You have walls,so enjoyable watching bricklaying. The master at work. Angelica checking the progress and making sure the walls are plumb. You work so well as a team an achieve so much. Your food place looks after you both, home cooked, so tasty and good value for €.
Alex, Angelica was demanding your attention at one point I thought she was going to headbutt you over......your very patient and gentle with her.shows she's loved/ cherished and she feels it from you both.
Have a good week and stay safe.
You are very hard working family and very talented....i wish you continued success to complete your dream.
Your last video was so interesting, thank you so much for sharing your story. I enjoy every renovation part you and your father‘s doing. You work so hard, everything doing yourself. People reward this with rising subscription numbers. You only started your channel two month ago, so that’s great you know?
Btw, love Angela, hope you keep her save during the night.
God bless you and your family, greetings from Austria.👏
Nice work guys! your dad has done a great job on the wall, i think it is a bit cooler where you are as here it is still very hot, so hot i cant lay any more blocks on our miking parlour but this week it is starting to cool down so i hope i can start again.
Is the digger still working ok
Give Angela a kiss, sheep are my favourite but dont tell my goats😂
Hi Alex,
Thank you,
I Hope and believe your milking parlour will be up and running in no time!
Haha I will give her a big one ))
I was watching your video and at the end i saw you eating Carne de Porco à alentejana, funny... because its exactly what we re eating while watching your video at this moment :D I hope you like my country, currently im living in Thailand but sometimes i miss there :D
Hi Joni,
Haha that's wonderful to hear, I love when things like that happen in life, Shows how we all are connected.
Yes I like Portugal very much :)
Good evening Alex and dad from sunny London, you guys are hard working, just love Angela following you around such a cutie
Good Evening Katrina,
Thank you very much,
Angela is indeed a cutie ))
Really enjoying following you guys, thank you for sharing ,major credits to your dad for his excellent knowledge, great pair.
Hi Alex
We are so excited to see the progression of your house. It’s really happening now.
Your dad is obviously experienced with block wall building as he seems to fly through the process, and he knows how to make that ladder dance😂
I called my husband in to see Angela “helping “ you😂.. he was a Veterinarian before he retired, and he loves her attitude.
Looking forward to seeing more👍
Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
Looks like inspector Angela takes her job seriously. Nice to see that she is just as involved in the renovation as you and your dad. I think Ms. Angela is interested in a salt lick.
Ah! Is that why she appears to be nibbling gravel & mortar? 🤔
@@ZoeLateNight I'm not absolutely sure, but I do know that cement has salts in it and most animals like deer, goat, and sheep sure do like salt.
Hi Gem,
She has a salt lick ))
And no she is not eating cement..
@@AlexLukachina No, I know she's not eating cement, but thanks for pointing it out.
You and you Dad just a very good team. Are you sure the sheep is a sheep. 😀 wish you luck and greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
Awesome the work the two of you have accomplished👏👏👏💖
I really like your content. I think it is awesome that you have a sheep instead of a dog. That's way cooler! Good luck in all you endeavors.
Thanks so much!
Dad does a nice two step with the ladder.....
YOU'RE DOING FANTASTIC, ALEX & PAPA...;)
Amazing work guys! 🍻🍻🍻
Things are progressing nicely now keep up the good work both of you, and as for Angela you started that head butting thing I could see she wasn’t going to stop lol sorry but I did find it funny
Haha yea, I laughed myself rewatching that )))
She is a playful girl ))
Angela the boss is making sure they guys don't slow down. Lol
Lol
Great work as always Alex. I'm getting ideas for my Portuguese stone barn. I move in properly in three weeks time.
Thank you Matt,
I am glad I can give you ideas.
Thanks for your vid Alex 😇💟💟💟 Love you guys, you work together good and relax.
Well done guys, even Angela wants to help! 🐑😂😉
Ah yas------ nothing like a good work days going smoothly............. Things looking good mon................Whattttt, no siesta after THAT lunch ???? ;)
Making great progress guys. Just wondering what you are doing to ‘tie’ the block walls to the stone ones? Are you putting in rebar or wire of some sort? I’m not a builder so only asking as I’ve seen videos where block walls have ‘come away’ from stone ones as they weren’t tied in to each other to prevent them separating (possibly due to different temperatures in the stone and concrete from the block/concrete). Anyway we’ll done on the block work and I’m glad Angela has been around to inspect every aspect of the build 🐑👍
I think you can see it at 37:40
Genial esos muros, ya se va viendo el proyecto👍
Wow Alex nice progress you've done there, you father is realy a pro!! Good job !!
Building Inspector Angela making sure you leave room for her room. I think she needs a fellow partner for the build. They could spend their time talking in the shade of the olive trees.
And perhaps making babies...? We should send Alex a fiver each to get a friend (or maybe three...) for Angela.
OK the sheep is just like having a dog.
Your father is starting to look Portuguese.
Haha indeed ))
Great content today Alex and your dad well done
Most people on a farm have a sheep dog you have dog sheep!
Haha yea ))
She is a very special sheep )
Angela badly needs a partner a sheep comrade!!
What actually is this area going to be? I don’t think you explained it at the beginning so I didn’t understand what this is going to be?
Hi Angela,
It is going to be a Room and a Bathroom, There is a video about our Upgraded plan, I explain it there, Sorry for not explaining at the start.
@@AlexLukachina okay 👍🏼 I will go back and watch that video. Great work today 😊
How do you eat an elephant, one bite at a time. I love how you three just keep going along and soon you will be so proud when it is done.
Thank you Lesley :)
Awesome
Si le mouton commence à manger du ciment vous allez en faire une statue ❤😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I really hate that sheep !!!😂😂
Bonjour mouton ❤
Hello Alex , dont get me wrong , the wall looks very nice , but ...why dont you wet the area you're putting cement (mortar) , and why none between the bricks ?? Any bricklayer (pedreiro) would pull your ears !!!! Carne de porco a Alentejano , my favourite (without the pickles) !!!!!!!!!
Fact.
I’m not even a bricklayer and I thought exactly the same thing…
Of course, you’ve weakened the structure by not laying the blocks correctly. This is painful.
The blocks aren't flat on the sides, So when you put the blocks, there is a hole on the top between the blocks, and that's when you slide the mortar in.
In one of the clips I even show my father do that, and in the Timelapse you can see me do that, push mortar between the blocks.
@@AlexLukachina They don't know what are talking these blocks are self locking ,they have like male/female ends that locks one into each other ....besides like you said when two blocks are jointed there is a space than can be filled with mortar although there is no need to do it in all the blocks.....
ich würde ein Fenster in die Toilette - Bad machen
Il faut le tondre l amour de mouton ❤
Angel thinks she is a dog. She's funny.
Haha, yea ))
Question - When you build a block wall don't you have to put mortar between the cinder block as well as on top of the blocks? Would the wall be stronger with the mortar all around the block than just on the bottom and the top?
Hi Paul and Laura,
There is mortar between the blocks, the blocks are curved at the sides, so when you put one near the other, there is an opening on top, and you just push mortar in that hole, and this way there is mortar between the blocks.
Do you guys have some sort of plan for making the vertical mortar joints after the fact? I usually see people "buttering" the side of a block with mortar before laying it, but here just a bit got tossed down the gap afterwards? Are these a different type of blocks that don't need that vertical joining or something?
Hi Hilary,
No there is no need to "butter" them, Mortar is like a glue, It will glue to the blocks either way.
The reason People "Butter" the mortar in other types of blocks which don't have the holes between them, is to stock the mortar to the side of the block from bottom to top.
Because if they wouldn't butter, the mortar will just fall off the side of the block.
Hi 👋🏻, I’m watching all your videos you are doing a great job , quick question why are you building the interior walls on top of the plumbing, what about if you need to assess it later on ?
Dad took so much trouble getting the first bed of blocks in so that he had a good foundation course to work from. In the UK his mortar jig can be bought in plastic and its called a Brickie and comes as a long and single version. I was surprised there were not anchor straps or ties fixed to the stone and into the bed joints at the new wall external wall interface. I literally laughed out loud when your Dad started to walk on the ladder stilts. Your sheep really thinks she is a dog, will she be allowed in the house once it is completed?
Just wondering if you are going to pressure wash this room like you did the other? It looked great afterwards and I think this room would benefit also. What are those black areas on the walls? Mold? Great video.
Hi Dawn,
This room i’ve already pressure washed, just didn’t do a video about that.
No, it is black because there was fire there.
@@AlexLukachina ok, just wondering. lol Your Daddy is very talented, not only with laying the stone, etc, but walking that ladder too. When are we going to get to see your Mama? Great video.
@@dawnpetz9085 Haha yea))
Once we finish the build, hopefully soon ))
Hi guy's, so great work!
I'm curious why you didn't put cement between the blocks? Maybe that is not necessary?
However i think it looks very professional. Regards Rickard from Sweden 🇸🇪
Nice 4 inch blocks
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS, BUT, GET IN THERE, AND HELP YOUR DAD DO THE WORK, PAL...JUST HANDING HIM BRICKS IS NOT TEACHING YOU HOW TO DO FOR YOURSELF TO BUILD THIS QUINTA...HANDS ON EXPERIENCE, LET HIM TEACH YOU AND LET'S SEE YOU DO SOME OF THIS WORK...ALL THE BEST 🙏...;)
I don't know much about brick laying. Why are you leaving the end of the brick dry ?
