When I worked in an ER, I had an elderly woman who had numbers tattooed on her arm. I asked her what it was and she told me it was from when she was in a concentration camp in Germany. I cried to myself the rest of the day. I will never forget that. This woman is a saint and God truly guided her throughout her life!!

Man sees only the outward appearance but God looks into a person's heart. It's sad when one is persecuted because of one's faith or beliefs. But as you said and what your mother told you; that it was important what you would put into your mind. So if you learned to develop strong faith and love for God that's what got you through those terrible ordeals. Your story is a remarkable one even though you were persecuted.
