The Find Samples Mode is best used for finding open spots to use in a sample, Set Slicer Mode is best used for Drum breaks or to chop to transients of a sample, it also allow you to set the beats to chop to 1/4, 1/2, etc.
Great video. I've read the Ableton and Serato manual... and am playing with the software.... and this video is exactly what the Dr. ordered. Very helpful to watch....
Bro ... u said Hip Hop Ejay... You Definitely Know Wassup MG!! By far you have thee BEST Music Production Resource Videos on all of youtube.. plugin hacks ... cant find that type of shit nowhere else ... #GOAT
Peace MG, Serato is a beast for what its capabilities are. 2 things the chops begin on C1 up to 8 semitones or keys above chromatically. so from C1-A1 or B1. forgive me my midi keyboard isn't next to me lol. and it actually show you in green highlights rite above the waveform when you press the keys.. also try the slice samples. its just like chopping in the mpc or maschine. thats actually my favorite way to use serato. chec my reviews of serato sample on my channel I break it down a bit. let me know if you need some tips on it. Peace.
covered some great points there my man and your a cool cat. thankyou - ill download this for the sheer nice GUI and toyish simplicity ~{ im just starting and im old man 😂}
I'm wondering, are you using a controller? And if you are if you have a video or quick explanation on how to hook that up? I'm running an mpc live into ableton with mpc beats software and serato sample running as a plugin. I can trigger samples with the keyboard, but can't seem to figure out how to trigger with the mpc?
What’s up fam.. I’m late to the party but would love to see that Ableton process mentioned @ 14:35 along with Serato.. if done already.. I’ll check the channel.. 🙏🏼
So I'm going to assume you can only fire the chops from within the serato sample application as a vst. Also is there/ normalize gain /truncate or fade in and out options.
Love this new app. Nice video So there is a function to "play through" the samples. Also if you grab the bar at your slice marker you can drag it right and determine its length 👊🏾
What you suggested doing a video on at about 14 minutes or so in... PLEASE DO THAT lol. I've always wondered how to do that......it's been a struggle for me dealing with key/tempo...of multiple samples and getting in sync with ableton..
starting at 13:59 you mentioned with ableton using keyfinder and time stretch etc. from there you suggested doing a vid comparing what you could do in sarato as opposed to how you do it usually in ableton. thx for the reply.
nc86prod oh! Was referring to an old way...Serato does it so much faster, I don't even have Ableton anymore as result. I was describing manually tuning your samples to a key you want and then chopping with simpler basically. So Sample A is c major, sample B is d major...you use tune to turn down sample B 2 steps to make it C....then chop them accordingly etc
I think I'm understanding you a little better now (I suck with technical details sadly) I can feel you switching. I started out with PCDJ back in the day..before they had a sync button. I used to cue 2 different tracks and blend em by ear and bend them when they kinda went off ( I can send you a mix from those days if you'd like).... years later I ran across the sync options on stuff like virtual dj etc.....I wanted that same quickness in ableton when trying to blend different samples and chop up etc...but was constantly sidetracked by trying warp and all that other stuff.
nc86prod funny you mention that, I just did a demonstration of this with virtual dj on Instagram 😂 that universe timing is crazy man. But I feel you...yeah hit me on IG and you can play that stuff or send me links, in terms of Ableton crossfade I think I did it here ruclips.net/video/eb50c8glfgo/видео.html
Is there a way to play single slices without it bleeding into the next one? For example, if you chop a break, how can I play the kick without it triggering the snare on the next slice?
Serato only plays as long as the key is held. You can adjust the note length. There is a latch mode too. You can also drag the slice flag at the bottom to set an absolute end. Many ways
The reason i would use serato over simpler is frankly ease of use. The only thing that would make it better is if it had 32 buttons instead of 16. Thats were ableton is better. Youre right about needing a transient range. You can also use random to find samples. I think find samples look for certain elements. Not sure why it didnt find more samples than it did for you. Maybe favorite them and click find samples again. I like listening to whole songs anyway so it works fine for me but i made 4 beats from one song within the first hour I got the trial using find samples lol.
I 2nd that point. like Akai completely missed that mark in this 2.0 update. and I am starting to feel like the purposely doing that. like they could of added in the find the key method very simply. and yea the purist hate serato for putting this out. lol
Ummmmm... other than the how it handles pitch/key changes, which is not a biggie to me, simpler and sampler got the edge!!! But can you do mash ups with it, in ableton (self mixtape)? Lol
Sincere Nokwaree thanks man! I’ve been trying to figure out the major differences between Serato sample and ableton and that one feature is HUGELY important to me so will def check it out
Man maschine could have done this already. But they don't want to hurt there sales of kontakt. It's dope but I have already gotten used to key finder and the kontakt workflow with maschine and Logic.

Yo just found you and this was super helpful. Also love the dark vibes on the beat you're cooking here!
"Thru mode" is the arrow next to the pause/play button in the serato window

The colors follow the same layout as Serato. Red is usually bass, blue is snare.
Peace MG,

Man your videos are great and you really have a lot of interesting stuff to say, :)

Brilliant! You need the technical piece to create. Thanks for sharing this.

I’m not. Just basic midi via ableton
You always have dope samples. Any tips for a beginner like me?
Sergio Follyvi whosampled, is a website. Start with finding all the samples from songs you love...and pay attention to artists, labels, and dates.
Alright, I will check it out, thanx!!
Well done vids!! Thanks..
What’s up fam.. I’m late to the party but would love to see that Ableton process mentioned @ 14:35 along with Serato.. if done already.. I’ll check the channel.. 🙏🏼
appreciate you fam, keep doin wot you do..
Know it's an old video but that find samples function works with long samples and full songs best.
Yeah, i been team random as of late

Peep their product page, has more tech specs. Also a daw now...serato studio

Remind me ...didn't see anything at 15. Are you referring to time signatures? I had to change time sigs in Reason recently..it has warps too.

I didn't realize it finds the key of drum breaks 🤯

Hopefully they incorporate that in a future update....I really hope so
