i started at ben e keith straight out of school and i told my manager when i started im just here for experience so i said ill be here at least a year but ive been there almost 9 months now and i hate it all my co workers hate it and even the trainers and managers hate it were down to 1 trainer because the rest quit then my manager quit because he hated it and i know 5-6 different people about to quit this week or next week because its bad we get paid .21 a case .25 a mile and 3 a stop and base pay of 1k a week which is what i make because i physically cant move any faster this job is tearing me down but if youre able to keep up and pick up the speed we have people making 100k plus a year we even have somebody who runs 2 seperate trailers a day and i heard he made 150k plus last year but all i gotta say is try it out and if it doesnt work for you its your cdl they need you more than you need them so you can easily find another job if youre looking for one
Mega foodservice companies are great for entry level drivers to get your experience and overall delivery driver game up. Learn stacking learn products learn who to holla at to get checked in and back rolling learn your town or state you deliver in. Once that’s together the medium size food companies is where the bags 💼 at. Only draw back is limited routes and driver positions In my humble opinion ! Again love what you do brother keep going all 2023 🎉🎉

To be really honest..It all depends where and what route. But the loads are sloppy, routing sucks and 3 comparments is harder than 2. Especially when you have to downstack 100 cases of chicken. Or 100lb cases of brisket from side door. Normally youll have as low as 12stops but can go as high as 24.
You nailed it.. 9 times out of 10 my trailer would be sloppy af or cramped up to the top and difficult to get in. I remember one night I had to unstack for nearly an hour in order to get my first stop out. It was the most disorganized load ever.. I questioned my sanity that day.. smh
I got a beautiful 18 month daughter that I love spending time with but im trying to make some real money in this CDL game. It’s going to suck that first year before i can get a local job but im hoping the sacrifices will be worth it in the long run
I’ll be honest bro, you don’t have to go OTR to find a good paying local job. There are a variety of food service companies out there that pay well if you don’t mind touching freight. There’s even some LTL companies that will hire new CDL driver’s. For example, ABF freight has a driver development program where they will help you get your CDL if you don’t already have one. ABF is a good company. Just do your research bro. I’m not knocking going OTR if that’s the direction you want to go in, I’m simply saying you don’t have to. Me personally, I definitely wouldn’t be going OTR if I had a child that young. I understand the sacrifice but time is something you can’t get back. Good luck to you brother. Happy New Year!
I worked for them a little while back and didn't have a good experience. At my location they paid a flat weekly rate unless component pay was higher over an average of a few weeks, making them one of if not the worst paying foodservice companies in my area. I was effectively making less and working more hours than when I was with a beverage company. My loads were constantly messed up causing me to have to endlessly dig for what I needed. Days off were split so I only had wed/sun off. My biggest problem was being stuck with a friday route that had a 3 hour drive back and forth and 15-16 stops with 500-700 cases while still being expected to make it back the same day.
I worked at the Fort Worth division for 2 years as a RSA.. most I ever took home net was 1,300/week busting my ass for 65hours with OT. Wasn’t worth it. I tried getting into shuttles but those gigs were mainly run by the old dudes who’ve been with the company for 10+ years. Good company to get your foot in the door (for experience) but it’s a taxing af job.

What does "shuttles" mean? Is that driving only the box trucks? And do you need a CDL if only driving box trucks or you need a CDL for all driving positions?
@@J__7777 shuttles are drop and hook only no freight touching. It’s a role mainly done by the senior experienced drivers and yes you need CDL they usually haul doubles. And for the most part you do need a class B and higher. It’s best to have your class A with all the endorsements. Although for foodservice you’ll just need Air/Doubles and triples endorsements

It's a good company alot of there customers is alot of small mom n pop restaurants they have big accounts with Sonic, raising canes, bushes chicken pluckers and a few more only bad thing about it is that they have bad equipment if the yard isn't in tye main yard and not a shuttle site you'll get bad equipment such as trucks
Are there food service trucking jobs (such as Sysco) where you are required to load your own truck, in addition to unloading it? And I don’t mean by driving a forklift, I’m talking manually wheeling in and stacking your load? You can have a good work ethic, be physically fit and muscular, but your bones and joints can give out.

Trailers are already loaded. The driver just unloads the product.
