Maybe you could go to Nepal. I like Kathmandu. It will make you jaw drop sometimes. People are nice. Been to Bangkok twice only. First time when i left the airport and entered the walkway to the airport hotel i started laughing as the heat hit me. Wow. The next day i was fine as i have always lived in warm areas. Thailand would be my choice for retirement also. You are right about ones time. Death can be quite capricious. I paid my dues & more. Thanks for the tips where to eat and stay.

Hmmm, a bit off topic Chris, but as I was reading your profile I see you’re an ex-navy diver, peaked my interest as I’m ex Royal Navy and a certified diver, not to your level, but reminded me of my time on HMS Hermes (commando carrier) when we were in port in Oslo, Norway on our way to Narvik and we received a bomb scare in the middle of the night, it was freezing cold with snow on the ground, the ships company had to disembark the ship whilst the navy divers had to go down into the dark, freezing, icy cold waters and search the keel from one end to the other. Imagine a ship which is basically the size of an aircraft carrier. I’ll never forget that night and how it must’ve felt as a diver not knowing if a bomb was about to explode and they’ll be blown to pieces whilst they’re “feeling” their way along the keel in the pitch black other than a little help from a small head light. My best friend was one of them, he became a North Sea oil rig diver and earned a small fortune back in those days.

@@RetireandGo I suppose it would be an interesting story as a chapter in a magazine but not enough to write a book about it. HMS Hermes has an interesting history, especially when I served on her, we had detachments of marines and special boat service personnel ( like S.A.S.) we transported to various hotspots around the world along with a fleet of helicopters, I served on her at the same time as Prince Charles (now King Charles) who was a helicopter pilot, I met him on deck on a number of occasions during exercise time.

Curious about not having done Vietnam and Philippines yet...comment you probably don't need but if you're looking after your health, ditch the Coke zero, no difference with normal ones as your body doesn't know the difference between real and " fake" sugar (replacements) it's all crap for your body long term, fruit juice a slightly better option even though it has a lot of sugar too...keep up the good work, one of my favourite channels ad I prepare for the lifestyle too at same age 😊

Aloha, fellow Kama'ania. We did the 60-day preauthorization (211A) for Indonesia this year ($110). It's kind of pricy, but it allows you to stay for an extended period, 60 days, with the ability to extend your visa (how many times I don't know). advantages are getting you through immigration much faster [can be a real nightmare in the high season], scanning your QR code, waiting for the green light, and you're done. This will allow you to stay longer than on your visa on arrival. Was trying to figure out how long we wanted to stay. Ended up staying almost the full 60 days. Was nice having the option to stay longer
SE Asia is working out well with our overseas retirement. We plan to spend four months in each place: Taiwan in spring, Winter Thailand, Spring Maylasia, and then Bali in summer.
Tomorrow, were off to Chaing Mei. If you're up that way, maybe we can meet for lunch.
    Keep up the great work

Good morning, next year I will leave my job, 4 years before retirement age. I am a 60 year old Italian.
I had already made my decision but I was very inspired by your videos. For this I thank you very much. I will have a limited budget so I will have to be careful with expenses. I have already traveled throughout Southeast Asia, so I know what to expect. The idea is to travel between Vietnam / Cambodia / Laos / Thailand / Malaysia / Indonesia / India and Sri Lanka, following the rhythms of the duration of the visas.
A very important thing, which I still have not understood well, and that I would like to ask you concerns international medical insurance that is valid in the countries indicated above. The coverages that I need are hospitalization in case of accidents or illnesses. Without any advance payment on my part.
The question I ask you is:
which insurance company do you recommend??
Also, is it better to do it once you arrive in Asia by looking for a broker or an agency that inspires trust?
Or is it better to do it before departure, or maybe online?
Waiting for your answer, I thank you and wish you a good journey.
    Antonino

I've been looking into going to Goa, India long term. After your talk on visas and how you approach travel, re visas. So, I wonder if applying for a paper visa puts India off your list, or if it's just India! Goa seems great, and there is much less trash about, but, in places, there are piles of trash everywhere. But, having been Portuguese for 450 years, until 1961, that there are still western values in the population, unfortunately, to a diminishing extent. Also,, they are struggling with too many tourists, and tourists driving housing prices beyond what locals can afford. anyway, I would value any commentary you could offer on Goa, or , perhaps, what you've heard. Thank you.

@@RetireandGo I'm planning an exploratory trip spring 2025. If all goes well, I plan to sell my house, etc and move there. It has everything I"m looking for: Nice apartments at a reasonable price, good food at a good price, western women my age practicing yoga and in very good shape and finally, many beaches to go on romantic walks at sunset. Now, I just have to go and see if it lives up to my hopes! Cheers. There is even an ashram there affiliated with an ashram/yoga school in Ubud, Bali.
