- France is heading back to the polls for a second round of voting for the National Assembly.
After his party’s defeat by the far right in the recent European Parliament vote, President Emmanuel Macron dissolved the parliament and called for snap elections.
In the first round, the far-right National Rally (RN) party emerged victorious with over 29% of the vote.
Protests have swept the country, urging voters to turn out on Sunday against the National Rally, formerly known as the National Front.
Macron’s Renaissance party won only about 20% of the vote in the first round. A coalition of left-wing parties, called the New Popular Front, scored higher with 28%. The coalition aims to unite voters against the nationalist and anti-immigrant RN party, led by Marine Le Pen.

I live outside France, I voted Le Pen first round and was shocked during the second round. I was about to call the Embassy because I thought it was a mistake. When I realized there were only three options, I voted Blank, because I wouldn't give my vote to either of the 2 left wing Pro-Hamas Fanatics that they offered. There was no right wing parties presented during the second round. I was enraged that they cheated me from voting freely. It was a disgrace, it should be illegal. It's undemocratic what they did.
