  • The shock victory of France's left-wing alliance in last week's elections means parliamentarians now face the challenge of forming a cohesive government. The alliance finished ahead of the far-right and President Macron's centre-right grouping, but failed to win a majority. Now the left must overcome deep divisions and old rivalries if it is to govern for the first time.

It pains me to break your illusions, but DW is not a state-funded media. It is a population-funded media, as any german can tell you.
That's why DW can be so independent and cannot be influenced by the german government or any others.

No matter how you look at it the RN lost only in places where more people voted for the other candidate - if the majority of people wanted the RN candidate instead of the one that was elected, they would have voted RN instead. If you need triangular settings to win it’s an admission you don’t have majority of the voters for you and need the majority who does not want you to spread their votes to have a chance. This is not a good look for the RN.

That was Macron, the centrist freak who let corporate thug police loose on working families out in the streets demanding justice for police brutality.
His corporate edict to raise the retirement age to be more center so oligarchs could leach off old workers whose wages have been stolen over years.
The far left who wants to recognize Palestine as a state and believes Never Again includes Palestinians?
As an American, I'm so glad the workers of France manifested the spirit of 68 to empower workers to live with greater dignity & feeedom.

The far left does not have that many seats (admitting that LFI is far left - I agree but some people dispute this including the Conseil d’état) - most of NFP is made of the moderate left that already governed in France and is comparable to the German SPD.

I do not like Melanchon simply because he is a populist and populists divide. The last thing any country needs is a populist. The RN is a populist party. Very different agendas and it's a relief RN lost, but something about a frying pan and a fire. I'm hoping other left elements in the coalition will be able to temper things down. Melanchon comes across as one of those politicians who will say anything they think has the best chance of getting them elected.
