An investigation was done on the inequality of fouls called against people in the NBA. It turned out in the investigation that many refs were actually paid off of tipped to get Rasheed out of the game(s). He was on multiple refs’ lists for people to intentionally foul-out because of how much he could impact a game.

I actually watched a high school basketball game when I was younger where a team milked the clock because there was no shot clock. They were playing the best team in the state and they knew that was their best shot at winning haha. They lost.
spoke to my granpa today after watching this and he remembers the 1950 game and said it was apparently the most boring thing hed ever done or seen and he used to work in a watch tower 😂

Wilt was famed as a bad free throw shooter around the time or a little before Shaq or Ben were born (and was a little WORSE than Shaq over his career) - Hack-a-Shaq was NOTHING NEW to the league.
I'm pretty sure it's pronounced James-On Curry. He went to high school near me and was supposed to go to UNC but got caught selling weed in high school and had to settle for Okie State.

Before Hack-a-Shaq (Shaq is #4 on the list of worst free throw shooters) and before Shaq was BORN, there was "Hack-a Wilt" (Wilt is #3 on the worst free throw shooters list).
But Big Ben was a LOT worse than Wilt, while Wilt was only a hair worse than Shaq - but keep in mind that Wilt had the "worst free throw shooter" record for DECADES and that was thought to be an unbeatable record for most of that time. DeAndre Jordan is #2, but Big Ben retired around the same timeframe that DeAndre joined the league.
As to why "Hack-a-Ben" wasn't applied more - he had to have the BALL to hack him, and as your video pointed out Ben was a DEFENSE specialist - he didn't tend to have the ball often enough to GET hacked.
(Edit) on the other hand, Big Ben is now the ONLY undrafted NBA player to make the Hall of Fame.
