Same here! I tend to forget Pat Riley, who played with Kareem and later coached him, and the Lakers began their 80's run! Note that there were no criticisms about Pat Riley from Kareem when Riley was promoted to head coach. Kareem just fell in line. Had someone who played with LeBron James been promoted to coach him, they would probably be one of the many coaches fired under LeBron's watch.

I remember that era in basketball quite well. That's when centers were centers! Not long after they met, Wilt became somewhat of a teacher and role model to Kareem. These guys had a SERIOUS beef that lasted for a couple of decades. I'm glad that they could bury the hatchet before Wilt's untimely death.
I think part of it was generational difference. Chamberlain came of age during a more conservative era; Kareem came of age during the Sixties in a time of national turmoil. When Wilt backed Nixon in 1968 and again in 1972, that was the last straw for Kareem, who was borderline Socialist at that time. And this isn't to even touch on their on-court rivalry. Wilt might have enjoyed a few years on top after Bill Russell retired- but here came Kareem.

Wilt was on the 2 winningest teams ever before expansion in the late 80s. Better than any Celtic or other Lakers team. He led the league in assists in 1967. Wilt became a role player late in his career, rarely shooting and becoming the most efficient player in NBa history by shooting 72.4% from the floor; still holding the record for shooting percentage today. Wilt's worst rebounding year was 18.6 boards; Kareem never came close to that!

11:38 it's interesting that Kareem drew the line early on politics. You have to remember that Richard Nixon was one of the most popular presidents up until Watergate happened.
If you look at his popularity and approval polls from 1969 - 73 you'll find out that Richard Nixon was one of the most popular presidents. He won his election and especially his re-election by Landslide margins both in the popular vote and electoral college.

But something the same happened to Chamberlain when the Warriiors moved to San Francisco. Not immediately, but after they made the finals in.... '64?... they fell off a cliff. They were in the process of setting a league record for losses when Wilt was traded to the 76ers. Then the 76ers set a league record for wins a year and a half later.

@@SayanOfRagnarok I think so too I’ve been saying the same thing as well. You can already see that it’s happened to Michael Jordan. People treat Michael Jordan like he didn’t accomplish anything. 6-0 in the finals. 2 3-peats. Never got to a game 7. 10 times scoring champ. He still has records that nobody’s ever going to touch. He’s done tons of things in the league that no one will ever probably do again. People act like he’s not even that good. so that makes me thinking another 10 to 20 years people will be saying worse things about LeBron. Because if you objectively look at what LeBron has done versus Jordan or even Kareem, it’s really not that impressive. I know LeBron fans are going to get salty, but if you objectively look at it, there’s still other players that have a better overall career than LeBron. They may not have the same stat line he does as far as what they accomplished in their career. But objectively in their era they accomplished more.

On MJs side they knew he was competitive liked to gamble and smoke he never really hid that side of him or the fact he was an ass because he could back it up on the court. In LBJs case he cares way more about his public image. And his squeaky clean persona doesn't match the tantrums or moves he makes as LeGM lol. I really want to know Dwades real thoughts on the 2011 finals run. There are clips of him staring daggers at lebron completely fed up and in one interview people took it as a compliment but he said "i thought lebron was even more impressive in practice then he was in the game" or what his teammates really think of him always throwing them under the bus or minimizing their contributions.
