This is such a cute video! I just realized I've hardly watched any Disney movies... I'm not familiar with the characters, except for Snow White, of course! I think I'll watch all the movies in the next few weeks... 🤗
Elle Fanning played Aurora in Maleficent! She is very tall at 5'9 and imo she could fit in Dramatic/Soft Dramatic as well as the animated character. Very interesting video!
I think it's also important to remember that when these princesses were designed, they were designed with the ideal body type of their time period in mind, i.e. Cinderella, which was released in 1950, was modeled after Classic beauties like Grace Kelly. Not sure if this applies to all princesses, but it's definitely the case for some, especially the ones before the 2000s
You should definitely do a part two! I always wondered how these body types applied to cartoon characters. I thought of Snow White a while back and thought: "Maybe she's soft gamine or romantic." And you agreed! Nice 😂
As someone who started watching this channel because I needed to paint makeup on characters I was designing for a videogame, I particularly like videos like this. I have only ever used the information on your channel for designing fictional characters. I have tried to use the knowledge I have gained about different body types to make a more diverse cast of characters for my projects.
When I see Cinderella I immediately think of Grace Kelly too! Ally when are you gonna do the Theatrical Romantic style review? I've been waiting for it since forever 🥺
Ginnifer Goodwin is also a Gamine for sure, she played Snow White in Ouat, I think she's Soft Gamine but you guys can tell me if not. She was very fitting for the role
I've heard she was typed FG by Kibbe, but that could be a rumor. Her wardrobe in OUAT was the epitome of SG!! She does look good with a little sharpness and edge though, when you look at her out of character. On the whole they absolutely nailed the "our world" wardrobes of the fairy tale characters while keeping their vibes congruent to their enchanted forest versions. Great style inspo from that show!
Now I know why my friends think I could represent Rapunzel while I'm Asian with black hair (and not looking like Mulan), it's because we are both gamine and we both have a reptile as pet.
That's adorable haha! I love that. What kind of reptile do you have? 😍 Rapunzel is my favorite Disney princess, and I get compared to her often too. I'm a gamine as well and I do look somewhat like her with her short hair, and I'm very expressive if that counts. 😂
@@lenadacca I have a crested gecko. And yes I also think our characters match! A mixture of quiet and fun, and adventurous but not easily be seen that way.
Haha people compare me to Pocahontas a lot, especially when my hair was very long 🤣 And I am a FN. Interesting to see how people translate the princesses in real life.
I honestly think saying someone looks like another based on skin color and hair shows how little they understand what makes people look like each other. You definitely show a Rapunzel essence and definitely don't look like Mulan.
The other day I was wondering about this specific topic, me, in my thirties 😅 You could have also talked about their colour seasons. Please, do next time 🙏🏼
For a movie example of sleeping beauty I believe Elle Fanning plays her in the movie Maleficent which is from the villains point of view starring Angeline Jolie. I loved this video so interesting and creative Aly!
@@thecammiverse Indeed she looks tall. Aurora has such pretty proportions IMO, her head and facial features are smaller than most of princesses, that makes her look more adult, elegant and even attractive. The opposite extreme are Elsa and Anna: the new princesses have enormous heads/eyes and it feels too much cartonish for me 😔
I think Snow White in the movie is not done growing so she can't be Kibbe-typed 😅. I think she is more of a young Romantic who has yet to fill in (so, an Ingenue? If this category existed in Kibbe) opposed to a SG. SGs should have a bit of sharpness somewhere but Snow White is all rounded, though not very curvy (she's 13). Also Jasmine, being the human Taj Mahal, is by definition the Theatricalest Romanticalest who ever lived.
Exactly, Snow White´s roundness comes from her age (baby face) but also because at that time animators relied too much on rotoscope because they weren´t as experienced animating in a not-cartoony way so both Snow´s and Grimhilde´s s bodies look more realistic just because of that reason, their faces are more stylized but their bodies don´t really match their faces, they made their bodies too similar to real life so that´s why it´s hard to place them in any cathegory, it´s more of the animators not knowing how to translate a body into a style and relying too much on rotoscope.
I've never seen Raya, but I may just watch it now to see the DC vibes. As you were going through the list I was thinking a DC princess wouldn't show up, but you found one 🙂 Thanks for this
Heyy Aly! IDEA: can you make a video about how the body types AGE? 🔥 I'm curious to see the differences. Might help knowing we don't end up a carbon copy of our favorite aunt 😌 I'm typed soft dramatic - my mother would be more of a flamboyant gamine/natural (guessing here). Ariel being romantic is so on point in fact even exist a concept art of her final look were you can see that she's very our glass shaped and petite and round her widest part is her hips that are very thick and curvy something we don't really notice in the animation but clearly tell her romantic body shape and also it's kinda interesting her pink outfit is inspired by 'the romantic era' wide ball dresses puffy sleeves and all
Belle seems more Romantic to me because of her heart shaped face (and window’s peak), large eyes, sloped shoulders, and smallish rounded features, kibbe curve 😊 same with Snow White!
I think she is soft classic, beccause her body is very ballanced, and she isn't short and lush, like romantics usually are. But she has defently a romatic essence!
No, even her personality is all about books and ideas, she's all covered up too, she's not sensual the way Ariel is. Same with Snow White, more innocence and playfulness than romance.
This is an excellent way of explaining how the kibble body types can be used for character design! My favorite original character happens to have the same body type as my fav princess, Tiana. I guess I just have my type XDDD
Aurora was played by Elle Fanning in the 2014 live action movie Maleficent. :) I do not think she matches the cartoon look of Aurora at all, but she is beautiful & played the role wonderfully. Pocahontas is my all-time favorite animated Disney film. Also, just wanted to point out that the actress you mentioned for Tiana (Anika Noni Rose) was her voice actress; they have not made a live-action movie for her yet. You did not mention the actress for Rapunzel, but she was voiced by Mandy Moore. I also loved the 2016 Cinderella live action movie! I was born in the 90s and grew up watching Disney films. To me, Cinderella was not dreaming about marrying a rich man, that was completely out of her mind in the realm of possibilities. She was dreaming about escaping her abusive family.
I dont know who suggested this but im so glad they did! Beautifully done. I got a few wrong i thought snow white was more romantic than ariel but your explanations made since.
Kibbe says you need vertical for FG. I don't see vertical in Moana. She has width, rather than a combination of opposites. There has be elongation somewhere, even if it's a long torso, arms, legs etc. that you can see prominently. She is too wide. Moana is a Pacific islander and from what I've seen soft natural is a body that is more common among them. Edit: Adding to my comment, Kibbe has described FG as waifish, so there's an element of being childlike AND lanky, which is the opposite of looking strong and robust the way Moana does.
Moana as a real person would pretty much be textbook SN. She has a rather short but sturdy physique with some curviness on top and rounded corners and round-squarish facial features. If she was in modern times she would follow SN guidelines, not FG ones, for dressing. I think Aly saw FG because the whole movie has a sort of style that 'kiddifies' people (BIG head, child-like facial features), thus making her look more G. But looking at Polynesians as people and her role in her story as the one who manages to communicate with nature goddess Te Fiti (Disney does tend to give meanings to their physionomies in a way) I think she was meant to look like a young SN.
I love Kibbe typology and disney! What a treat that was! Thank you! I'd agree with every girl except fo Flamboyant Gamine, Moana is for me a Soft Gamine or Gamine. But perhaps I dont understand FG well.
@@andyqv-goodvibes1900 Same here, I suspect I'm FG as well. So I guess it's hard to see ourselves objectively. FG are of course not all the same and Moana (for me Vaiana) doesn't seem similar to Audrey Hepburn (FG), but she looks more like Tina Turner, and she's FG too! So Aly is right again.
Hi Aly. I have a request/idea for a new series of videos on the David Kibbe types. It would be great to see a video for each type featuring examples of the type wearing their right lines, with explanations of why the outfit works for their type. Perhaps with a couple of wrong lines outfits too for comparison. Thanks for all your amazing videos! This one was so fun 🤩
Its funny because I'm TR and indian with black hair like her and a few days ago, i thought to myself i look like princess jasmine. I loved this video, would love to see color analyses too on the disney princesses!
Aurora was played by Elle Fanning in the movie Maleficent (which counts as the sleeping beauty remake, the title is probably why you didn't find it) I don't think that she's a dramatic, but honestly, it would be interesting to see which actresses played each princess in many different interpretations. For example in prior movies, in the show once upon a time, in non-disney movies :)
That was a LOT of fun! And I can really see what you were saying a very different analysis taking in to account their bodies and vibes very surprising but you made a really good case for all I agree
I love this Aly and I think you're right about all of them! This was so fun to watch! Btw what is your body type? I remember soft gamine but then you said you weren't sure? Also, Amy Manson plays Merida on Once Upon a Time. That show has all the Disney princesses and it's an incredible show to watch too!
It’s making me laugh how long I was confused which body type I am. It’s so clear to me now I’m soft gamine, I look extremely similar to all of the examples of soft gamines in your recent videos! Loved this one what a cute idea xx
I always thought Aurora resembled a young Julie Newmar, but blonde. Eye shape, eyebrows, cheekbones, face shape, nose, lips, everything. Even her height, because I have the impression Aurora is one of the tallest Disney Princesses.
In part 2 you should definitely continue to list those of similar body types for princesses that don't have a live action movie, like you did with Raya.
Alyona thank you for this wonderful video! You look stunning in this vest. Maybe you'll consider including links to your wardrobe pieces? That would be helpful for gamine body types.
That was my idea of Cinderella as a kid too.. in fact I thought her room in the turret was quite romantic! Also Elle Fanning played Princess Aurora in Maleficent. Perhaps as a part two you could look at the Disney female villains! I love your work, Aly.
This was alot of fun. I managed to guess a few right. I think Elsa and Anna are both classics. Very balanced, narrow shoulders, look elongated but are not tall. Maybe Elsa a dramatic classic. She is rather dramatic :)
Amazing video but I would also consider looking at the models for the animated version. For the older princesses there were people acting the scenes so the animators would know how to draw it.
Aly thank you for this video! I expected to enjoy some Kibbe entertainment and love disney princesses, but what I was not expecting is to finally figure out my kibbe type after years of trying while watching it! I have been compared to princess Jasmine often, but that is common for us brown girls so I didn’t have a second thought about it, though I do bare a pretty similar resemblance to her facial features. When you got to princess Jasmine, every single feature you listed described my body perfectly to a tee. I was actually speechless at the accuracy! So TIL I’m a Theatrical Romantic!!
She didn't want to marry a rich guy she just wanted to go out and have fun for once at the ball. She makes no mention of wanting to marry the prince at all in the film. When she went to the ball she was just amazed by the palace having no care to see the prince. She didn't even know that he was the prince when she met him. This makes their relationship even more believable.
Elsa to me would be dramatic classic. She is taller than Anna and also looks tall in general. Still she has some sharpness and more delicate features like her shoulders and rounder face and hair. So I think something in between Classic and Dramatic would fit. I could imagine someone like Diane Kruger playing her (also DC) For Anna I would say it‘s kind of simular but on a smaller scale, more girlish. And clearly a lot of gamine essence and features so I would go with flamboyant gamine 😊
Pocahontas was also a real person! We only have one portrait of her, and it's not very flattering, but you can see prominent cheek bones, wide set eyes, and a blunt, square jaw. So, the real woman herself may have been a flamboyant natural!
How coincidence that is! I'm also just searching those on Google by myself along with categorizing exactly with the methods you taught, but still couldn't figure them out and I just didn't sure about them. I'm really wanted to know recent days. So, you literally made my day today. Thank you! (P.S. and also u know, when I was searching for these, the way of thinking and all my to thoughts were now exactly like the way you do. So I'm kind of thinking we are having the same thoughts and imagination like that and so that feel more close and kinda feel like good u know. Thanks, my friend. There is a Little Mermaid sequel where Ariel is an adult. If you watch that it might be easier to type her. It's a pretty good movie too.
WOW! Seeing the computer generated faces of these Disney princess is mind blowing and all of them is just Beautiful.
Also, your whole look in this video is amazing! Beautiful.
Wow the princess tiana ai was stunning!
I'm absolutely reeling that Rapunzel's AI version looks like Amanda Seyfried who I've always thought should play her
Elle Fanning played Aurora ! ! She's so beautiful, Flamboyant Natural with an Ingenue essence I believe
This was so much fun, thank you Aly!
Wow i love this video and how cool that each one is a different kibbe type. Makes perfect sense from a marketing aspect actually as well!
I didn't know if I'd like this because I really don't like Disney, but you made it really interesting! I liked it!
THIS IS AMAZING I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN IN LOVE WITH THESE DRAWINGS THANK YOU
Wow that's video topic was so amazing.
Thanks aly, amazing as always
That was a LOT of fun! And I can really see what you were saying a very different analysis taking in to account their bodies and vibes very surprising but you made a really good case for all I agree
Great fun video Aly! Very telling and informative! By the way today you remind me Tinker Bell Fairy Disney character, my daughter’s favorite.
Aww I loved this video so much! It was fun and knowledgeable at the same time!
Thank you Aly 💝
I love this Aly and I think you're right about all of them! This was so fun to watch! Btw what is your body type? I remember soft gamine but then you said you weren't sure? Also, Amy Manson plays Merida on Once Upon a Time. That show has all the Disney princesses and it's an incredible show to watch too!
It’s making me laugh how long I was confused which body type I am. It’s so clear to me now I’m soft gamine, I look extremely similar to all of the examples of soft gamines in your recent videos! Loved this one what a cute idea xx
Oh, you forgot the AI generated face for Raya, the dramatic classic! We are so underrepresented haha :')
I always thought Snow White was romantic but this makes so much sense!
Can you do Disney villains next?
Yes!!
I always thought Aurora resembled a young Julie Newmar, but blonde. Eye shape, eyebrows, cheekbones, face shape, nose, lips, everything. Even her height, because I have the impression Aurora is one of the tallest Disney Princesses.
I thought I was the only one thinking about fictional characters' body types haha thanks for the video
In part 2 you should definitely continue to list those of similar body types for princesses that don't have a live action movie, like you did with Raya.
Was not expecting so much diversity in body types! Super cool
Great work Aly. I love your videos!
From memory (granddaughter watched Frozen constantly 10 years ago) Elsa is Dramatic and Anna is SN
Mhm very interesting! I love these two 💚
I'm a soft gamine with really dark black hair and fair to light skin. Everyone around me used to call me "Snow White" when I was younger 😂
I really love this topic ❤️ .. so creative and so interesting 🤩💖
I LOVE this video idea! The shorts have been amazing too
Alyona thank you for this wonderful video!
This video is what dreams are made of! So fun!!!
This was alot of fun. I managed to guess a few right. I think Elsa and Anna are both classics. Very balanced, narrow shoulders, look elongated but are not tall. Maybe Elsa a dramatic classic. She is rather dramatic :)
I think I'd agree!
I agree! Elsa is DC and Anna is more SC/C
This was so awesome and creative Aly!! Please do more(:
IM SO HAPPY YOU DID THIS. I LOVE DISNEY SOOO MUCH. Rapunzel is my favorite princess ☺
Belle was my favorite Disney princess and I'm also a soft classic 🥰
Amazing video but I would also consider looking at the models for the animated version. For the older princesses there were people acting the scenes so the animators would know how to draw it.
This is incredible, Aly. Wow. Your knowledge and insights are amazing and so helpful.
What a brilliant idea for a video! So fun, brought me back to my childhood, absolutely loved it ❤
That's super interesting! Could you do Elsa and Anna too?
Aly, I really enjoy your research. I really like how deep you dive into each topic and give us unique insights!
I agree on Tiana being SD
Surprised and happy to see I match Rapunzel who’s my favorite! 💜
Absolutely love this video!
I think you should speak about the newest movies, they're representing real bodies very well, especially in Encanto!
Aly, you've been told in your sunday chat (back in december) that you share with us your bodytype. Just so you know - WE ARE WAITING 😂
Rapunzel's hair does get cut. Not sure if you seen the movie. (Or picture of her with short hair.) Love your videos! This was just pure fun! Thanks.
Snow white is my favorite one, she is so cute and precious
I think you are on point! I loved this video so so much! Thanks Ali!
I'm always loving your technique and sharing them. Will always explore the art 🎨 and fashion itself.) ❤
Oo this is soo good. Love it! Do Disney Villainesses next!!
Mulan was my childhood princess so beautiful 🇨🇳🥰
agh this is such a fun idea! i love this sm
Your hair looks really good!
I loved this video so much! Could you please do another and add in Esmeralda and Meg from Hercules? They are some of my favorites🤗
Please please please do a part two with other Disney ladies such as Anna and Elsa, Megara, kida, Esmeralda, Anastasia, and others :)))
Idk about body types but pocahontas is stunning, her eyes are very emotive, strong yet gentle. It’s something I just realized when I became an adult
Pretty cool to analyze famous characters like this, it's fun
