Great video as usual!!! It’s funny how- when listening to music over the last 20 years or so, I never noticed the effect of side chaining until I actually understood what it is and why it’s used. Now- I occasionally notice it when I listen to dance music.
i constantly notice it. i watch a lot of master class vids and there are a lot of cases where its not used in big dubstep songs. but its used more often than not
Yesssss This is awesome. I've been learning and producing for years (on and off, never consistent), and for some reason I kept misguidedly using an auto filter to try to side chain lollll. It's worked, but only with vigorous trial and error. Not only did you halp me realize I forgot to use a compressor, you gave me the tools. Thanks Brotha
Thanks a lot for this! I've just started producing and have been looking for a way to have tracks do exactly this but didn't know there was a term for it
nice! it's around the 9minute mark where you use the LFOTool where it REALLY starts to make most sense (even though the whole tutorial is good) I'm finding too, that as i get used to creating ''gates'' with volume, LFO, or fuzz, etc, then anything can be turned into a snare, or kick. and then u can build your own presets.
Hi, at 1:10 you zoom in on the sample, but I guess you have used a shortcut. What is the shortcut and/or what is the longhand way to access it? Great pace of tutorial by the way.
i have a question. if i send a track for professional mixing and mastering, does the audio engineer do the sidechain ? also what about volume automations ? because if you export all the tracks you wont be able to have sidechaining and volume automations right ?
Depends a bit on what deal you're making with the mixing engineer. However: You can also consider putting groups around sidechained tracks and then put the sidechain on the group, leaving the audio free. Then send the project to your mixing engineer with freezed or bounced audio.
When sidechaining in compressor, does the sidechain source lower the overall volume of the compressed sound? How do you know what the sidechain source is compressing out of the initial sound?
Compressor is better than LFOTool because you could have it duck every time the kick comes no matter at where it's at. LFOtool only ducks at a fixed rate. And if your song ducks at the same rate the whole song it's gonna sound like a boring ass techno song...
How to Sidechain - What is Sidechaining? - Tutorial for beginners.
Finally, finally, someone actually explained how to sidechain. Thank you!
The most straightforward, but also in depth tutorials I've found on RUclips so far. Thank you, Production Music Live

So what is the difference between sidechaining and frequency ducking?
So good man
Thanks dude!

Cheers, helpful video
Is it possible to add side chain on garageband mobile version?
Leopard Slowpoke yes, by volume automation
side chaining a tom over a kickdrum wait what?
What is correct to be sidechained?
So then wouldn't you want to sidechain literally every other instrument besides the kick?
No!
Not every instrument occupies the same frequency range
how do i make a boss track?

5:1 aesthetic
So, what is sidechaining?
That’s what I’m trying to figure out
this daw looks really depressing
I agree, Ableton has a very "outdated" look about it, still very powerful though
cool thing -cause then you can focus on sound :)
You can customize the colour scheme in Ableton anyway, so you can make it less depressing.
It's all about sound
I thought so too
Man hört raus dass du deutsch bist xD
Boring presentation to listen to , sorry.Just saying.
What?
