It's the only DAW I've used that is multipurpose enough to be the only DAW I need (mind you the only other software I've tried is FL Studio and Adobe Audition as a pair). Not to mention, Ableton is natively more compatible with my midi than FL was (I didn't need to install any extra drivers and it uses my wobble knob properly, where as FL Studio didn't. Couldn't live without Ableton.

I see lots of people thinking they are suddenly going to improve by switching daws, or buying new gear etc. when in the end, it's really just practice that makes you improve, not what daw you use. I see lots of people hating on fl studio, and I'm not sure why. Everything you can do in ableton, you can do in fl. If you strip the exclusive sounds or instruments from the daw, they are just tools, using one or the other won't improve you, practice will.
Thanks for this dude. I got Ableton ages ago and just had a go at it blindly, and just got overwhelmed and demotivated at all the different options, even at the beginning of the vid, where you press tab to change the layout made the software a lot easier to view. But I've had another crack at it using this guide and I'm leaps and bounds further than I was in half the time. Thanks brah.
I don't think it's a stretch to say this is the best beginner functions tutorial for Ableton on youtube. Thank you. I was using studio one and switched to Ableton to pick up the new skill set... And this was a perfect starting point. Now if I can just figure out how to rewire and use cross-platform functions I'll be stoked with Ableton. You helped turn a nearly 1000 dollar program into a functioning tool instead of a bad investment. I'll kick you some donations for that asap.
How can somebody so young have so much knowledge? I have spent over 20 years learning all this! Not only that but he’s a good teacher as well. Learning music has got to be the skill with the single biggest learning curve out there, legitimately every single thing is insanely difficult. Even something like drawing, which is also notoriously difficult to learn isn't as bad as music is for a beginner.

I've had Ableton live 9 for like 4 years and always just messed around with it, picking up bits and parts. This video helped structure all the parts I already knew and taught me some really helpful new stuff too (using the compressor and equaliser - I was just using the auto filter for filtering frequencies until now. I keep hearing so many great things about Ableton Live that I feel like I should using it as opposed to Pro Tools which is what I was taught in music school. But I'm also at a dilemma of learning another DAW.
No doubt switching DAWs can be tough! I couldn't imagine switching to a different one right now, it'd hinder so much time I could spend on working on tracks - however I could see how it could be beneficial if you think it could improve your workflow in the long run. It really is a costly investment (in terms of money and time), so I'd say if you're happy with what you're making right now stick with what you've got. If you really think down the line years from now it would have been better to switch over since you could improve your skills with Ableton, make the switch sooner rather than later. But take that with a grain of salt! Best of luck :D
Hi Johnny Parker...I've been using Pro Tools for a few years, but only sporadically, only because I am also learning how to use other plugins....such as Kontakt 5, or EZ Drummer etc., so I'm trying to learn 3 or 4 elements at a time. So in researching Kontakt for instance, I decided to see what Ableton was like in using Kontakt. When I first opened up Ableton, I was so confused by the interface set-up, that I didn't even use it. It sat on my computer for 5 years, and I just kept plugging along in Pro Tools. However, I like some of the features in Ableton as compared to Pro Tools, (I just started researching more about Ableton this week), and I may continue to try to use Ableton for putting down ideas and then importing the midi files into Pro Tools. The only thing is that I do not have as many instruments in Ableton as I do in Pro Tools, but that's just a minor issue. The other thing in comparison is that I am now familiar with the terminology, so using Ableton might not be as big of a learning curve for me. Good luck!
I avoided ABLETON for years for the same reason and oh man I wish I hadn’t! The session view is way ahead of protools and cubase and once you get your head around that, the arrangement view is easy (as its the same as what you already know). I was switched onto ABLETON through my fascination with live looping. Its easily more powerful than the best hardware loopers but it depends what your into. I can see the session view being very useful for writing and arranging. TBH I can’t see myself going back to Cubase now other than for recording bands in my studio. The exciting thing about ABLETON is....I can now see myself performing my songs using clip launching on my Macbook pro 😃
same here man, ive only known pro tools (i can kind of navigate logic) but just got ableton and once you understand how it operates its so much quicker and less clumsy than pro tools. im still getting my bearings but its wild how quick and easy it is to build these massive tracks with automation and effcts that would take a lifetime in pro tools. anyways happy producing

my favorite part of your amazing vids is you show what it sounds like after you do it. A lot of content guys out there don't do that probably because the time it takes. They will show something cool you didn't know about and than not play it lol you explain things well, go through it and give details on each technique, fantastic stuff my man.

Hey, InspirAspir. Question: I've just started using Lite 10. Around 4:08 you changed the chord patterns. How did you adjust that, specifically to fifths? Are you just drawing it in to fit? I'm assuming there is a much faster way. I'm having trouble finding it in Ableton's materials. I'd greatly appreciate the help!
okay so if you turn on draw mode and put it into 4 bars (by write clicking and changing it) you can indisually put in notes like he did in the video. It seems he copy and pasted but idk how to do that
Guys guys calm down, first he obviously changed the size of the note (using the grid which you can see and mess around with pressing right click), selected it and pressed ctrl + D which duplicated said note; and he just did that several times.
Hey! Speaking about free plugins, I recommend Zampler - RX (you'll have to download the patches in a pack called "Zampler Assault"). Charlatan is good too, and Kairatune isn't bad, but it's kinda CPU-hungry. Finally, try out Tyrell-N6. It has a wide range of sounds, it's not CPU hungry and it's completely free!

Got lost at 11:38 when you changed up the song. I tried to do the same and messed it all up Not that my notes looked the same anyway. Would advise not using shortcuts without saying what you're doing.

@@sewerside i googled it for u. Stretch the notes. Here is a trick how to snap them to the grid. Set the grid as desired, draw one note more then you need, select them, set the mouse to stretch (right click in the midieditor, it's the last entry, i am using the german version so i'm not sure how it's called in other versions) shorten the notes and now you should have ..tuplets. Also something about turning off grid before u do it
He actually didn't put it to 1/5. He put a series of notes the length of three 1/16, but with the last note being 1/4. It is so easy in fl. In FL studio you can just draw 5 notes touching each other and then click and drag a circle while holding ALT to fit it into a bar.
I just moved to Ableton after 2 years with fl studio, and this really helped, like you wouldn't believe how much this helped, i pretty much learned everything from this tutorial
I agree. I've got up to that point and was like wtf? I can't figure this out... so I tried to google it... but I don't know what to search for... I played around and got something to work but it sounds off. Using quantize puts it all in alignment, but changes the notes so there's gaps.
In case you're still wondering a year later how he did it that fast: he minimized by selecting and dragging, then used "ctrl+D" to duplicate the selected notes

my favorite part of your amazing vids is you show what it sounds like after you do it. A lot of content guys out there don't do that probably because the time it takes. They will show something cool you didn't know about and than not play it lol you explain things well, go through it and give details on each technique, fantastic stuff my man.

Hey, InspirAspir. Question: I've just started using Lite 10. Around 4:08 you changed the chord patterns. How did you adjust that, specifically to fifths? Are you just drawing it in to fit? I'm assuming there is a much faster way. I'm having trouble finding it in Ableton's materials. I'd greatly appreciate the help!

okay so if you turn on draw mode and put it into 4 bars (by write clicking and changing it) you can indisually put in notes like he did in the video. It seems he copy and pasted but idk how to do that
Guys guys calm down, first he obviously changed the size of the note (using the grid which you can see and mess around with pressing right click), selected it and pressed ctrl + D which duplicated said note; and he just did that several times.

Hey! Speaking about free plugins, I recommend Zampler - RX (you'll have to download the patches in a pack called "Zampler Assault").
Charlatan is good too, and Kairatune isn't bad, but it's kinda CPU-hungry.
Finally, try out Tyrell-N6. It has a wide range of sounds, it's not CPU hungry and it's completely free!

I'm getting a Minilab and Ableton comes with it. FL has been a good friend but I'm mostly excited to play around with fresh sounds, this tutorial was surprisingly easy to comprehend and it has me hyped up to dive into it

Got lost at 11:38 when you changed up the song. I tried to do the same and messed it all up Not that my notes looked the same anyway. Would advise not using shortcuts without saying what you're doing.

Stretch the notes.
Here is a trick how to snap them to the grid.
Set the grid as desired, draw one note more then you need, select them, set the mouse to stretch (right click in the midieditor, it's the last entry, i am using the german version so i'm not sure how it's called in other versions)
shorten the notes and now you should have ..tuplets.
Also something about turning off grid before u do it
You could also make chord last a full bar and divide ur bpm by 5 and copy it

He actually didn't put it to 1/5. He put a series of notes the length of three 1/16, but with the last note being 1/4.
It is so easy in fl. In FL studio you can just draw 5 notes touching each other and then click and drag a circle while holding ALT to fit it into a bar.
I just moved to Ableton after 2 years with fl studio, and this really helped, like you wouldn't believe how much this helped, i pretty much learned everything from this tutorial

He put the notes in. Not really that hard. Just count the beats and place the notes where the beats fall
Each 1/5 is 3. 1/16 on a triplet grid

I agree. I've got up to that point and was like wtf? I can't figure this out... so I tried to google it... but I don't know what to search for... I played around and got something to work but it sounds off. Using quantize puts it all in alignment, but changes the notes so there's gaps.
In case you're still wondering a year later how he did it that fast: he minimized by selecting and dragging, then used "ctrl+D" to duplicate the selected notes
