  • Not a typical video for my Platinum Garage subscribers! Sorry!
Whats up guys....this week I made a video on my AC 615 Backhoe. I can't find any information on it whatsoever and the only other videos look like they were recorded with a potato. So if there is anyone out there with a 615, welcome to the club of obsolete parts and sub-par videos. I have the honor of explaining how to replace the torque tube oil so this is one step in the right direction. Next video will be hydraulic fluid. Remember....NO MORE 303! Use a quality J20A. Clean, slick, and full means more to a 50yo machine than dirty and empty.

Glad I found this. I just got my father's 615 running again after sitting 20 years now I'm trying to service it and getting it working properly again but I don't have any manuals for it and can't find any information online other than videos. You made a great one here sir. Thanks again

I did a fluid and filter change on the motor, torque tube, shuttle clutch, and transmission. I haven’t done the final drive yet as I haven’t found where to fill it. Didn’t look that hard yet as it took me a good part of the day to do what I did. Greased everything! The power steering is working much better and the hoe has power and control. Not perfect, but I dug out a stump to work the air out of the lines. It took 3 more gallons of fluid after working it. The transmission called for 12 qts. But my fill cap with dipstick is different from yours or the pictures in the manual. I put 14 qts. in it and stopped. Still didn’t reach the dipstick. The dipstick also says fill to mark with ram extended. I don’t believe that should have anything to do with the transmission. That round cover by the hydraulic drain does contain a screen but be careful of the O ring. I had a bit of a time getting that to stay in place during reassembly. I’ve gone through 18 gallons of hydraulic fluid, 14 qts. of 80w-90, 3 gallons of 15w-40 and a tube of grease so far. Tractor is loving it!

Clean and full is always the key. The final drive is located behind the tires. I recommend removing the tires and taking off the pan. Clean it out real good. It calls for some strange oil they don’t make anymore. I just used some straight 30 weight. Who knows. I haven’t done the transmission yet. Just hydro engine coolant and torque tube.

The cap looking thing on the loader frame/hydraulic reservoir is a metal screen that should be cleaned when the hydraulic oil is changed.

I did read that, although I was reluctant to pull it off because I knew sourcing an o ring would be near impossible

It’s a great machine. I have to replace the fan belt now. Not looking forward to it.

I've had mine for about 7 years, got all the manuals and parts books with it when I bought it. Was first owned by a heavy equipment mechanic, then by a guy who used it on 6 mining claims, now me.

It’s been good to us. I changed all the fluids, new alternator and starter, only paid $1000 for it.

There's one for sale in New Egypt, NJ for 900 non-running without the backhoe. Wish I could snag it and revive it, but yeah I'm always afraid of the question of finding parts and info. If you can find the service and parts manuals, then usually that helps. Nice of you to make this vid.

I’ve had my eye on that one for 3 months. It’s in rough shape. I bought this one for $1000 and I love it to death. Thanks for commenting!

Can I ask a favor from you? When you do the transmission would you measure the transmission dipstick? I would like to fab up something to check oil level. Thanks!

I just found this video. My dad has a 615 loader and hoe. He ahs passed away and I now have it. I'm doing a complete fluid change as well. I'm hoping the hydraulic fluid and filter change will help the hoe. Its very sloppy and feels like its full of air. Did you happen to video the other fluid changes and just not post it? Thank you for doing this one. It sure helped.

I am editing one right now, I had a lot of play in the hoe, unfortunately all of the pins are worn down so that’s where the movement is coming from. The machine has performed great since I replaced the torque tube oil. Power steering is awesome. For a long time I thought I was the only one that owned a 615
