That was a pretty crazy day Andrew! I’m really impressed with the set up you have in your house. The emergency assist commands is a very smart idea. Technology has really gone a long ways since my dad was diagnosed with ALS in 1997. He used the laptop by a sensor that was placed close to his eye and used his eyes blinking to use the laptop. My Dad was a huge Duke fan and would watch the march madness religiously.
Thank you. :-) yes, technology has really advanced since 1997, when your Dad was diagnosed. I am sorry for your loss! I rely on Dwell, holding my gaze on a button for a half second, because I don’t blink that well or timely enough to use that as a switch. I am really looking forward to the future of BCI’s and AI letting me type with my thoughts, or at least click on a button I am looking at faster than dwelling for half a second. I love march madness too, but for the team 15 miles south of Duke. :-)
Hahaha UNC fan! My dad was military we were overseas a lot so any chance he had to see a North Carolina team winning was good enough for him! My dad’s from snow hill about 10 minutes from kinston. AI and Elon Musks Neuralink is going to be a game changer for patients that have MS and ALS as well as other neurodegenerative diseases. We as a community need to fight hard so we can finally cure ALS! You remind me so much of my father! There something about people that have ALS, I meet hundreds of ALS patients thru out my life and the majority of them are extremely smart and very witty. I hope you realize the impact your videos are having for some people!
@jpcreech99 I’ve never been to snow hill, but my uncle lived in new bern near there. I have high hopes for Neuralink, but don’t trust it enough to be part of a trial. I never knew what ALS was before I developed it, but yes, every person I have met in the ALS community since has been wonderful. Happy Thanksgiving! :-)
@ as a kid me and brother would play baseball and my dad would be there and train with us. We would talk about the greats all the time and we mentioned Gehrig a lot. My dad even bought me a Lou Gehrig shirt “the iron horse”. We talked about him and little did we know that 2 years later my dad would have the same disease. Crazy how life is sometimes. Thanks for writing back and keep up the good work on your RUclips channel!
