For me Rock and Roll is not now nor will ever be dead. I can put on an album that may be 40, 50 or even 60 years old and be instantly transported back in time. Perhaps live concerts may never be the same but the music lives on 🎼
As long as people are still listening to and playing rock music, it’s not dead. There are still people creating new rock songs today. They just aren’t being listened to by the masses - and that’s ok (even though I’d prefer it to be the dominant genre it once was).

Going to concerts in the 70's, 80's, 90's was some of the best times of my life, the music at is best, meeting people, experiencing the environment. I just don't see that happening today so you just get a studio album type of concert. I'm 70 now and I don't think rock will ever die but we need some one or a group to stand up and out!
@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine Whenever you watch one of those "reaction" RUclips videos to a classic rock song that involves a live performance of 250,000 people there to see the show, and they cannot believe their eyes that that many people where at a show all at one time. Great topic once again Michael-Being born in 1974 and a metalhead-the bands that I loved in the 80s and 90s used to talk about their musical influences-the bands that they mentioned were in in my parents record collection!-That is how Rock will never die for me-I'll keep exploring.
I was born in 2005, and I love hearing the new songs in concert. When I saw the Foo Fighters earlier this year, they played about 4 or 5 songs from their new album, and the audience loved it
I saw Deep Purple and Yes together back in August. I was really impressed with Deep Purple. Despite their age, they are on the top of their game. I heard a few of their new songs. Great show, and I have some video from the show. Yes is not the same without Jon Anderson and I was a little disappointed in their performance, but Steve Howe was great. I am afraid that rock and roll as we have known it is dying a slow death and will one day will be remembered in the same way as we remember the big band era of the 1940's.
Hi Dan! Hope all is well with you brother! Like you I wish that Jon and Steve would just let bygones be bygones! But noth camps gave us really strong efforts in 2023 & 2024! Good to hear from ya brother! ❤
I'm 60. I've played in bands since I was 15. I now play in an old fogy cover band (I like getting paid) and Fleetwood Mac songs still fill the dance floor to this day. I learned to play music to that album. Thanks for this vid. Kids don't go to see bands anymore, it seems like they would rather go protest in the streets.
rock is more than music to those who love it ,it's a way to see and live life through its spirit and I believe its power will forever be a light in the dark and a freedom flag.
I was an adventurer in rock concerts back in the day, I went to see Heart, The Moody Blues, Santana and Huey Lewis and The News and the list goes on. Of course I was expecting to see some hits but I wanted to see the new stuff. My dad would play Beatles albums on vinyl when I would come home from elementary school and I would sit and enjoy it at the age of below 10 years old. I love rock music man I hope it makes a big comeback
Raw live rock music will never be the same. Thanks for the memories. Maybe we were just seeking another Woodstock and just couldn't never achieve it, now the dream is gone.
Music is personal, and it will never die. Categories, labels, styles die out rebirth or appear anew. Rock is a huge umbrella. Im not worried about it. We got Michael Noland!!
I still think you are missing out on the Morse era of Deep Purple. Purpendicular and Now What!? are both at the top of the band's catalogue in terms of musicality, creativity and execution...at least to my ears.
Hi Michael, somehow I missed the new Deep Purple LP. The Rumours LP Cut by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman from the Original Analog Master Tapes is the best pressing of this renowned winner of this record. Thanks for continuing your masterful work. Rock n Roll will never die! I believe it’s a part of our DNA, like most music, we are meant to enjoy and discover various types of music.
So good to hear from ya brother! And I concur, Rock & Roll is here to stay! BTW thanx for the additional info on the Rumours album! I n;t remember what Patrick said about the copy I got from him, but I do have a very clean pressing! Merry Christmas to you & yours my friend! ❤
Mike I forgot to say I bought the CD and vinyl blue double record from Jon Anderson. This album is off the charts as far as vocals, keyboards, drums, and over all production. A finn materpiece. Truly a body of NEW work from an 80 year old rock god Jon that shines like a diamond!! That gets my educated music listening vote!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I miss the days of camping out just to get a ticket to see your favorite band. All the seats were general admission so you could get a front row seat if you were willing to get in line 12 to 15 hours before the show started and all seats were $12. You held up a cigarette lighter during the ballads rather than a cell phone. Kids these days never truly get to experience rock concerts as we did in the 70s and 80s. As long as those of us who lived these experiences are still around, rock will still be alive but it’s dying a sad, slow death. Long live rock!
Rock music isnt dead, mostly because of classic rock. Like memories of old friends, classic rock will always be with us. I cant imagine never listening to Abbey Road again.
My Top 3 New Rock Albums For 2024 (All Made My Top 10 Albums Of 2024): (3) Deep Purple "=1" (My #9 for 2024) (2) The Warning "Keep Me Fed" (My #5 for 2024) (1) The Last Dinner Party "Prelude To Ecstasy" (My #1 for 2024) (My #1 album for 2024 is an alternative rock album)
As some have stated here, we all love our music, we all get transported back in time when we hear certain songs, that attachment to a song/memory. There are some bands out there creating and playing new rock music, but the industry is so very different now. Streaming has changed things, the way regular radio is stuck on the same 4 or 5 songs per artist ( I feel so bad for DJs, they have no power anymore ). Then again, here we have Rumours selling again. I have met some younger people who don't like the current music, they love the old stuff (the good stuff!) So I guess there's always hope. In the meantime, I'm hanging on to all my physical media, thank you!
Long live rock and roll! Great commentary brother Michael. Love all three albums you talked about. Rock and Roll isn't dead. I just want more bands that put out new music. That Deep Purple album is a highlight of 2024 for me!👍👍. Way up. Merry Christmas brother ❤❤
I'd say more dormant than dead. There certainly hasn't been a rock record like Rumours or the other classics you mentioned this century but the fact they are continually being recycled is still a pulse if a weak one. Rock itself will never die.
It is great to see the creative output continuing through time for Fleetwood Mac - Lindsay and Stevie, etc, and even associated musicians such as Rick Vito. And others artists like Bruce Hornsby, U2, etc. Isn't Pete Townsend brewing up something ???
it does feel like the death of rock n roll.....born 1957 .... bought my first album 1964 (of course the Beatles) .... and to this day collect and play it all....vinyl,cds,reel to reel, SACDs, and my least fav....cassette. I get why Rumours is still selling. " Rock n Roll can never die ".......hhhhhmmmmm....also love Sirius hate streaming
It is sad that some older rock bands are charging a king's ransom (Bruce Springsteen, U2, the Eagles) just to hear their warmed-over hits. Despite this, Rock music is here to stay and will ebb and flow in popularity as long as creative people want to truly express what's in their heart & souls.
If you went to see either Led Zeppelin, Eagles, Rush, Deep Purple, YES, and Paul McCartney and Wings you'd hear extended versions of many of these bands best songs. People came to listen to more than just lyrics-they'd stay for the instrumentalists. Jimmy Page's, Alex Lifeson's or Joe Walsh's solos would take over a lot of these songs and simply extend them for 10-25 minutes.
So Michael where is The Beatles nowhere to be found?? Love Rumors and Elton Deep Purple! The Beatles are not being promoted the right way maybe Apple and Disney and Capitol not releasing the good products that people want! Young fans are not buying in The Beatles in streaming format! Yes Paul is selling out his concerts but Beatles fans not streaming in big numbers to me young fans are not interested in The Beatles! Rock'n'roll is dead!!! I'm sick of Taylor Swift and her Soap opera depression pop music! Like Ted Nugent said her music his cartoon music !!! Thanks Michael great video and hopefully younger fans will find The Beatles music and explore greatness and stream there music! Thanks
The Beatles are being streamed but mainly their compilations (red & blue, 1). When they have a product out - Revolver remix a few years ago, red & blue remix last year - they still make high chart sales.
Another fine offering Michael Noland...............and hey, I didn't realize that you also ( me as well ) are a guitar player until I saw the end of this video! Also Rock Music as with all other music Genre's can never die! How, when God ( don't mean to upset the possible Atheists on the page............lol ) when creating Mankind placed attributes into humans, and Music is an attribute and will never die, and that means Rock Music will never die as well, it's actually in a way in all our DNA! Apologies for my zeal...................lol...............it happens now and then my friend.✌✌✌
RnR is not dead, but the louder version of it virtually is. The only person to me in RnR coming out with good, but still loud music is Ozzy Osborne. His last 2 albums are great.
Are we back to the same old problem ? Consumption of music by the net leads to people naturally just selecting the big hits not of just 1 artist but a whole host of them, so realistically how will quirky great artistic numbers be heard or appreciated, like you said that used to happen at concerts but again cause of streaming, the crowd wants their playlist to be replicated live, so you just get a greatest hits show. Also this tends to suppress original new music / artists and of course the big record companies love it and are cashing in like it's going out of style making the problem worse.
I'm surprised that you have not covered David Gilmour's 2024 solo album "Luck and Strange". If you have, I haven't been able to find it. At least he's still putting out new Rock. His album made it to #1 in UK for a bit, but yeah, no doubt it didn't chart on Billboard's year end list. I know you're a fan, so it would be interesting to get your review of it.
Michael, every genre of music has a 'time.' You have seen it. Jazz in the Twenties. Big Bands in the Forties. Rock and Roll in the Sixties (along with all the sub-genres). The point is, the greatness of a genre is in the cultural zeitgeist of a particular generation. What sounds move those young people in their decade? I've come to accept that the sounds our own generation revere won't be the sounds respected by the current youth generation at-large. However, I do believe the sounds created in the Sixties and Seventies will have 'legs.' They will last. We have a vast catalogue to mine, explore, and rediscover--and so will succeeding generations. Perhaps a good distinction is this: We remember Jazz--but not necessarily a huge stack of albums with tunes BY NAME. Just the genre--the sound--the ambience. Same with Big Bands. We may remember a few artists BY NAME. But again, not necessarily specific tunes or hits. With Rock and Roll (and the sub-genres in pop that added longevity) we remember vocalists, writers, bands, albums, songs, hits--even album cover artwork...The list goes on. I suspect a century from now when everyone currently walking has shuffled off this mortal coil, future listeners will revisit the audio gold we almost took for granted in the Sixties, Seventies, and Eighties. I am sorry we won't likely see a broad extension of quality material--but the cultural feedback between how artists were born, honed their craft, were discovered, and saw their contributions recognized on the radio--and then to have those sounds grow and evolve through peers and competitors to add depth and texture to the musical landscape--THOSE days are gone. Since the public no longer consumes music in the same way, the music itself isn't CREATED in quite the same way. So we are the lucky recipients of the experiences we enjoyed growing up. Generations a century or two from now will have to enjoy Rock and Roll separate from the youth culture that generated it. But at least...at least it will be remembered and enjoyed anew. Perhaps that is the best be can hope for. Thanks for sharing. It was deep food for thought...
BEST MAC ANYTHING PRE BUCKINGHAM/NICKS. BEST LINEUP. MICK,JOHN,DANNY,PETER,AND JEREMY. 1967-1970. OK 1971-1974. BOB WELCH AND CHRISTINE MCVIE. NOTHING AFTER THAT. JUST COMMERCIAL POP.
For all intents and purposes, rock and roll is dead. That doesn't mean people of our generation (boomers) aren't listening to rock anymore. It doesn't mean that some young people aren't being turned on to rock and roll. What it means is, as a dominant cultural force, rock and roll just doesn't mean a whole lot anymore. Rap, hip hop and country are FAR more popular. I have two sons in their mid twenties and I always made sure to expose them to good rock and roll when they were growing up, e.g The Beatles, Zeppelin, Queen, AC/DC, etc. They enjoyed them, but it just didn't "take". As older people start to die off, rock will become even more irrelevant. Very sad.
Rock is on lifecare machines right now. Not much new and explosive. I have turned to college radio and mostly alternative. Other than that it has been counterpoint Barouque Harpsicorhd music from Scarlatti and many others. The classic rock stations are playing the same old that I grew up on 40 years ago and I am sick of it. I hope more sequential computerized synthesized modular music will become integrated with the new inventions coming our way. Love your channel and like this question for all your followers. Have a great holiday my friend!!
I considered Fleetwood Mac, Boston, and Foreigner to be "corporate Rock". I preferred Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Kiss, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, or Southern rock like Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top back in those days. Alice Cooper was just not the same without the original band.
I haven't seen a decent rock band come out of the West in years. I often get videos by bands recommended by the algorithm. They all look the same, with what you can do with todays editing software, you don't need to spend a couple of hundred thousand to make something different. Nobody does anyway, they all follow the same formula. As for the music, well I could hear a hundred bands and not be able to tell the difference if it's the rock genre. If one band did something a little different with their sound they could clean up and gain a huge following. It's not like the fans aren't there anymore.
It started with classic rock radio tightening their playlists to a relatively few classics played over and over again. The majority of listeners are happy just hearing the same old classics over and over again. Since the brands...I mean bands now earn their money on the road and charge exhorbitent pricing for tickets and the majority of the audience are "casual" fans who only know the hits, and they're the ones paying these prices, the bands cater to that audience and the cycle continues. I'm purely a physical media guy, but most people just stream the same old stuff. Billy Joel is bigger than he ever was - a true worldwide stadium artist....yet just playing the same old hits for decades. Rock beyond the niche audience like me is dead. Album sales are non-existent. Gilmour sold out five nights at MSG instantly at insane prices. The album was off the Billboard 200 I think in 2 weeks. It's a sad state of affairs, that the industry and the artists themselves have contributed to and "reaping the rewards". Depressing and sad.
in a word .., no .., it may be in a hibernation stage now as far as mainstream goes , that is ok .., but so many good releases out there , young bands still making good stuff .., kids picking up on older artists because of video games or TV shows .., I tell you right now somewhere , some garage or basement there are 3 or 4 kids playing like garbage , but maybe , just maybe ., they will be the " ones " ;)
For me Rock and Roll is not now nor will ever be dead.
I can put on an album that may be 40, 50 or even 60 years old and be instantly transported back in time.

They said been saying Rock n Roll is dead since the late 50s/early 60s
Have a great holiday my friend!!
great band and great album. is todays music in such a bad place that 50 year old music is still better? :(
What's with the Max's?
Yeah, rock is pretty much dead. The old guys are just not being replaced by anyone who approaches their level of talent and charisma.
Great album but I don't understand why Americans class pop music as rock music .
