  • Teaching the girlfriend how to ride a motorcycle on a Yamaha R6. Steps -
    Read Before Making Complaints on Gear*
    1) Start with Brake and Clutch control. These are basic first steps for learning how to operate the machine.
    2) Have rider walk the bike around in N, playing with front and rear breaks, to get comfortable with the weight
    3) Have them start the bike, shift to first and slowly release the clutch to get moving (no gas yet), let them feel the engagement point
    4) Have them practice stopping (pulling clutch in to avoid stalling)
    5) Once 3&4 are mastered, let them roll on the gas a tad releasing clutch all the way
    6) Once 5 is mastered, have them switch gears to second and practice stopping (pulling clutch in first, and downshifting once at a stop)
    7) Practice 1-6 until they kick-ass ;)
    Thanks for watching!
    *Don't bother commenting on what she is wearing/not wearing. Just watch to learn, don't wast your time looking stupid. Unfortunately I didn't have a 250cc, otherwise it would have been much easier. I don't recommend learning on a 600cc. I also recommend wearing FULL protective gear when learning, she opted out due to stubbornness and it was a really hot day =). I would not have let her go over 10mph or leave the cul de sac in such attire.

    Its always good to see people's opinion about starting out, and to the winers about starting out on a 600, I started on a 05 GSX-R600. Never had a problem, great starter bike. Its all about control and respect for the bike. Know your limits! It's that simple!

      I started on a old 1996 VFR750 sport-touring and it worked fine for me. 750cc is big displacement but the bike's power delivery is so different from a supersport. Good advice mate, and to all the newbs seeking to ride, it doesn't matter if you have a 85cc dirt bike or a 1300cc hayabusa, its all about throttle control, body posture, body coordination and awareness. Also respect the Law in addition to the bike. Don't be a showboat...the world already has too many of these.

    Great learning video man, glad to see you are teaching proper riding skills to her. My issue with this is that she is in shorts with a t-shirt. She only has gloves and a helmet on. At any speed if she falls she will leave her skin on the pavement. Invest into full gear man. Hope that she has already. Stay safe.

      You wrote "Great learning video man, glad to see you are teaching proper riding skills to her. "
      You must be joking.
      I put this in an earlier comment>>
      please delete this video it is NOT HOW TO LEARN TO RIDE A MOTORCYCLE
      Go to a certified motorcycle safety school. NEVER learn from an amateur as per this video.
      !!!!!!!!!!! There is nothing worse than an amateur RUclips motorcycle 'instructor'
      At 1:24 you have it all wrong WARNING TO NEW OR NON RIDERS THIS IS NOT HOW TO DO IT.
      She is not dressed for riding. Her helmet is not done up properly.
      And a new rider never gets the ignition key and never starts the engine until they have mastered stopping the motorcycle with both brakes under full control.
      2:07 You do not put a new rider on the street like that and especially dressed for a beach party not dressed to ride a motorcycle.
      2:45 I hope she has her organ donation card filled out and deleted him from her will.
      By 3:00 there are so many things wrong with what is going on the list could be 50 items
      8:00 she still does not have the helmet chin strap done up.

      If you read my comment in full I did say "my issue with this is that she is in shorts with a t-shirt..." not everyone learned from a certified instructor like yourself man. People are free to learn as they so wish to do. You are going to give yourself a heart attack dude, ease up a little, safety is the concern here, but as adults they have the choice. I think she did rather well for her first time and hopefully she will wear full gear. Cheers dude.

    • @yessure5291
      @yessure5291 7 лет назад +1

      She got off to a horrible beginning. Braking is taught and accomplished first before the engine ever gets started.
      You NEVER start off a first time person like that. You get them on a 125cc small bike. You DO NOT start the engine EVER - hide the key.
      You need at least 2 people. The new rider after being shown and understand every part and item on the motorcycle - they sit on the motorcycle with 2 feet down always.
      The second person is behind and pushes in a straight line. So when the new rider is ready they yell "go" and the person behind pushes....when the motorcycle is rolling straight ahead the person behind yells "stop". The new rider stops the motorcycle with the rear brake only. You do this over and over maybe 25 times.
      Then next you do the same but instead part 2 is use the front brake only each time. Maybe 25 times.
      Then part 3 is using both brakes equally maybe 25 times.
      A new person is not allowed to start the engine until they know how to stop. And be very comfortable at stopping smoothly. If that is all you do on your first day that is great. With no engine. So they have had the experience of stopping a motorcycle at least 75 times or more with no engine.
      There are hundreds of videos on RUclips of "fails" of new riders getting on ... starting the engine and the motorcycle races into a fence or wall or something and the person has no clue how to stop the machine.
      If you can't stop a motorcycle with both brakes in a proficient smooth manner you are not allowed to start the engine.
      And two feet down for every stop and two feet up at the same time as soon as the person starts to push. The same when the engine is running some day. I have seen beginners fall over trying to use one leg or the other. One foot means the bike is tilted and unstable.
      That is how new riders crash.
      They must learn to stop in a controllable manner first. New riders should never be put into 'panic' first day situations.

    Good teaching there, mate! Learn how to control clutch & gas at low speeds, feel them, as well as doing eight-figures like you taught her, should be a must for any beginner. I did it in my time, and helped me a lot. Unluckily, I didn't get such a patient teacher as your GF did! Cheers!

    its stupidity a person learn to ride a bike with a 600cc one!
    you get to start with 100cc, 150cc and then when you dominate them you can think to ride one of these.

      Nurburgring00 the only bike you sholdnt learn on is a liter bike

    • @MrSlowestD16
      @MrSlowestD16 9 лет назад

      Nurburgring00 That's folk tale...
      While it's easier for a larger bike to get away from you there's typically no issues as long as you're responsible.
      I started on a GSX750 and had 0 issues...and it's not because I'm some fantastic rider, it's simply b/c I was responsible with how I rode it.
      It's another folk tale that you need to dominate one to ride the next, the VAST majority of people on the road can't even come close to mastering a little 250 sport bike, but most of them are on much larger than that. I personally could never buy a sport bike < 1L again, I enjoy the torque for daily driving too much. You don't **need** to be able to push a bike to the limit to go up. As I said, the torque you get from big displacement is second to none. ..but sport bikes are in my past now, more of an adv and UJM rider now!

      MrSlowestD16 preach it man! Finally a wise rider among the rest. There are too few people that can ride responsibly, unfortunately; and far less of them are educated enough to realize that its "not the arrow, its the indian" meaning that its all about whose sitting in the saddle. I choose the 600cc because I knew I'd respect it, and that it was enough power for me to enjoy and have fun on two wheels.

    Thanks Omar for the compliments, Don't know why I didn't make them sooner ha. Anyway, here's my take on a beginners bike. Honestly, I think it depends a lot on the person. I think that if you have the money a 250cc, 300cc or a bike with similar ergo to a ninja 650, are the best for beginners. Personally I started with an 03 zx6r, it was hard initially but I think it forces you to learn quicker, being a bigger/faster bike, and I didn't have to hassle with trying to re-sell it to get a bigger bike

    • @donniehill3952
      @donniehill3952 7 лет назад +2

      Michael Gardner drive literally just means to operate and control the direction and speed of something. Not that serious let it go. Probably should of just said " how to operate and control speed and direction of a motorcycle " but that would sound dumb.

      Read his description: "I also recommend wearing FULL protective GEAR when learning, she opted out due to stubbornness and it was a really hot day =). I would not have let her go over 10mph or leave the cul de sac in such attire. Don't bother commenting on what she is wearing/not wearing. Just watch to learn."

    Glad you found this video useful. 172cm should be fine. If you have already ridden a CBR600 then you will be fine, the R6 is actually surprisingly comfortable, it has less of an aggressive stance then my 09 zx6r. The R6 is actually a pretty good entry 600 (at least the ones before 08), because it has less HP than the new bikes, which means it will be a little more controllable on the throttle. Hope this helps.
