Excellent video content! Apologies for butting in, I would love your opinion. Have you heard about - Rozardner Inspiring Chord Reality (probably on Google)? It is an awesome exclusive product for how to play guitar scales without the normal expense. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my best friend Jordan at last got cool success with it.
You teach with no ego at all! This really helps the focus revolve around what is needed only. No needless shredding. You also have a great ability to put everything in context without getting ahead of the student target skills. These scale videoes are the best i have seen so far for beginners. The shapes are visible, you show they are the same all over the fret board, you link the scales as they are related to eachother etc. To the point and completely understandable. This is evident through all your lessons.
@@Braglemaster123 I don't think he's explaining everything too fast at all. I've only been playing bass for 3 days and I can follow all of his videos just fine. And even if he's too fast for some people, you can just pause, rewind, or slow down the video...
I think you are the only selfless teacher across the internet, that is really informative, helpful, neat, and doesn't wank on his strings shredding weird fillers all the time. Thank you so much.

i laughed out loud reading your comment :D spot on!
Thankyou Mark! I'm embarrassed to say I've been playing bass for 15+ years and I still lack in the basics. Really appreciate your teaching's. They really help me improve on my playing Sunday mornings. May God bless you a 100 fold!
Twenty minutes without a hint of a fluff or hesitation, this is the best instruction I have seen on RUclips much to fast to fallow but after many rewinds, I am starting to get it excellent.
This is one of the best youtube lessons I've come across for bass. You explain this in an easy to understand manner, and very informative. Thanks for the video, keep on rocking!
I've been playing bass for over 10 years, but I'm self-taught and never really bothered with music theory. I just wanted to learn to play songs. Nevertheless, all these scales are familiar to me just from playing different songs. I just never really knew what they where called. The notes just sounded good
Same thing for me but with guitar. I’ve been playing for like 15 years but still don’t know names of chords and shit. Funny thing is, my friends all consider me an advanced guitarist, but a real guitarist would probably just call me a phony who’s good lmao
This gives me a little bit of hope bc I'm just picking up the bass and figured scales would help me out. But it's all just going in one ear and out the other lmao
Thanks. I’ve been playing bass for years now, self taught and was trying to help my daughter learn. Your video has been the easiest to follow. Your instructions are clear and most importantly you can see your fingering clearly. Many of the other videos didn’t show where to put your fingers and they went too quickly. We had to stop and pause it and try to work out which fret they were playing on. I am learning how to read music for the first time and your video is helping me with that too. So thank you 😊
I just have to say mark you may not see this but you’ve thought me more in two days than any bass teacher I tried when I was younger so happy I found your site my friend!!
this was a very helpful lesson, I didn’t realize the major pentatonic was just a variation of the major scale. Thank you for making that easier to understand.
Just stumbled across this video as I am attempting to learn bass, and I wanted to say I think you are a very good teacher. Very well explained and great pacing, this video was very helpful!
thank you so much..lots of info , but not overwhelming...its so direct , brief and concise....I love your teaching style....thank you again...learned a lot
i agree i cannot see wth he doing really they all seem to mess up like this or they say to much in the ter of schools the best learn without teachers .
Man it's funny how a lot of guys do video but they forget that everyone is not we're they are and it's hard for to follow them I'm a beginner but you break it down so beautifully with the fret and the strings I'm learning fast as the video says for beginners Thank You I'm going to be checking out all your videos
Loved the video, you explained it all perfectly, very concise. I just learned how to do the major scale in 5 minutes after being confused as hell and not learning anything watching other videos. Thank you so much
Great Goobeldy Goo there's a lot of good information in this video! I have spent a few years just rote learning notes of songs to play bass in a group at church. Simple stuff, and I'd practice the heck out of the songs at home during the week until I could play them sped up so that I'd be super ready to play live. We got the music played and sounded OK. But I was always left wondering after practicing and memorizing songs why some notes sound good together and others don't. I had absolutely ZERO understanding of any kind of music theory for the bass. I guess this wondering has led me to seek the next level and that's where your videos have been instrumental in my beginning to understand what's really going on when I played all those songs. I'm repeating these videos until the information sinks in and I'm practicing at a snail's pace so that I can understand exactly what I'm doing as I go along. Two years ago my practices of today would have seemed impossibly slow, but the me of today is slowly gaining understanding from your kind guidance, and I'm having a blast because I understand what I'm doing. Thank you, Mark!
I love the way you teach, your you show everything you say, you give awesome explanation in English and you over emphasis. not everyone cup of tea. but its my cup of tea, regards. your stuck with me
I can watch ur video over n over again mark because u teach very well n because of u I am improving my bass line everyday thank u so much for ur powerful explanation in every lesson
ive been learning the notes on my fretboard before properly engaging with scales and it has helped a fair bit IMO. In a lot of videos its a lot easier to piece together if you know the fretboard notes, and the scales will make more sense as they move across the frets. Just an anecdote for my fellow newbies. I'm learning 1 string at a time. So far I have the E and A string frets memorized. Even just knowing 2 strings has improved my ability to learn scales a bit more efficiently.
This has been incredibly helpful as someone who just picked up the bass about 6 months ago. I spent a few months just playing with the instrument and practicing finger picking but I finally decided to start learning a little bit about music theory and some basic scales. This has been a great help. You're clear and concise with teaching. I haven't run into any issues learning these aside from one detail. I'm having a lot of issues with the size of my hands. My hand from palm to tip of middle finger is about 6&1/2 inches. maybe a tiny bit more. I'm having a lot of difficulty using my pinky. I was considering getting some of those "musicians practice gloves" just to give a bit of boost to my finger size. Any other tips or suggestions are welcome!
Your lessons are awesome. Every musician has to learn the notes and the scales. It' s like first learning the alphabet en after that learning words, sentences. These basic elements combined with an alternating picking technique should be the foundation of every bass player . When learning songs you understand of which part of any scale their made of. It makes sence. After that you play songs with knowledge and you not only play the notes of that song. It's like a langauge. I see a lot of players playing songs very well but they don't understand what they're playing. It's like speaking and don't understand the words. You're a very talented teacher. One of the best on RUclips. Relaxed and you don't rush. Keep on groovin!
Your lessons are some of the best, in this video I feel like you should have explained the minor scale from the prospective of its origin, A to A using no sharps or flats. Just like the C major scale only it creates a different pattern. This I feel would lead to a better “Big Picture” understanding of Modes, scales and how the shifting of them allows you to play uniformly in different keys, I am a beginner, trying to develop my own perspective. Not trying to second guess you here!
so for the scales do I find the root note like d and play the shape or scale from there. Great video and I love theres no needless playing to show off. New sub.
Very handy video for a beginner like my self.. btw that’s a sexy Ibanez.. I have a Ibanez but I got the sr300eb in weathered black. For £240 I think it’s a great starting point for a new bassist :)
Thanks for the helpful lesson, Mark! I'm just curious to learn how to extend the scales to include the E string? Seems like the way you taught here starts on the A string and goes to D and G from there. But what about the E string? Thanks. 🙏

The voice over announcements of the scales were really cool.
Good work. This man talks and shows almost simultaneously so if you are beginner you are not lost in talks or overwhelmed with playing. Thanks.
This makes so much sense after just being repetitive with roaming the fret board, you are so selfless and considerate, respect
