- Kochi Water Metro: PM Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Kochi Water Metro Today. It is a first-of-its-kind public boat service in India integrated with a metro rail network. The public boat service is being implemented by Kochi Metro Rail Corporation Limited with the assistance of a German funding agency. The water metro will operate on water bodies like any other ferry or traditional boat service, however, it is equipped with modern facilities such as enhanced safety and security measures.

KMRL is responsible for the implementation, operation and maintenance of Kochi Metro and Kochi Water Metro Project as per orders from the Planning Commission and the Union Government. KMRL is a joint venture company with equal equity contribution of Government of India and Government of Kerala. credibility is required for sanctioning and receiving of foreign funds. Govt of India, on behalf of the concerned entities has stood guarantee, to get the loan sanctioned from German firm.
And someone who has pledged to bear just 5% of the NH66 road development cost and takes full credit for the same has no right to object counter arguments in other situations. So enjoy the show 🙏💊❤️

@@tux008 no one takes the credit of NH. The national highway should be maintained and developed by central... In kerala geological features, price of land, density in population makes the development difficult. With many years of struggle the project get abandoned due to difficulty in land accusation. Now this govt 's stand made the project easier and it was their responsibility....
Kochi Water metro is funded by the GOVT of KERALA and German firm KfW. Overall cost of the Kochi Water Metro project is ₹1,137 crore.

This project was started in 2016 by Kerala Government.
Govt of India has provided sovereign guarantee for the loan from KfW without which funds would not have been received and project would not have been feasible. If Kerala does not pay up, GoI will have to.

For this to be a profitable venture it should be started at other places in kerala. Kerala have 44 rivers, just think about the infinite possibility & it'll also reduce the cost of goods if dedicated freight services is also started simultaneously.
Not all rivers are metro friendly. Nor does it have enough traffic. Moreover the georgraphy of the region is not good for transporting goods let alone people.

Coz it is not limited to 2-3 routes, it is similar to metro rail system, spread over 76kms in 15 routes with 38 stations, connecting various parts of Kochi City. Other routes will become functional eventually.

I thought that it was multimodal. That is, it could also be connected to the terrestrial metro rail like a coach. But this is a glorified ferry.
Thanks for mansplaining what multimodal is for the rest of us. Couldn't have googled it at all if we hadn't known what it stood for already. Also, the 'glorified ferry' as you call it reduces helluva lot of carbon emission and will be connected more and more with the Kochi Metro as the latter expands through phases 2 and 3. That's something you could easily have googled too if you could be bothered, but then what's the fun in that, right?!
