    This review is epic! The BG3/CP testing in different fan profiles was way more useful than most other reviewers showing rasterized performance charts. I just ordered a Legion 5 Pro AMD with a 4070 and I'm planning on playing BG3 on there. I'm definitely going to test out silent mode + DLSS.

      Very useful. thanks for for this, i prefer a quiet computer whenever possible, and try cap my fps on my desktop so the fans and card stay silent 60-100fps depending on game (running on a super ultrawide so can be demanding). Also the battery life depending on use is good to know, thanks again.

Has RAM upgradeability, all metal supreme build quality, lovely 16:10 matte screen (hate reflections personally), excellent keyboard and trackpad, all the ports you need, fantastic thermals and for someone who really cares about battery life whilst retaining the ability to game AAA titles near silently at respectable frame rates, it's hard to find a flaw. If it does, as a value proposition, this needs to be priced in the vicinity of 1.3L INR, esp with a surfeit of capable previous gen Legions now selling below 1.1L. There's competition from laptops with 2K and 3.2K OLED screens with 100% DCI P3 color gamut in the sub 1L price bracket esp from Asus.

    Great review as always. The Phoenix Apu's are the reigning king, combining high performance 8 true Zen 4 cores, with amazing power efficiency and the ability to sustain super high clock speeds. Battery life is top notch as well as shown @22:00.
    The 7840HS coupled with the capable 12 CU Rdna 3 780m with decent DDR5 ram speed (the faster the Ram, the better. This 5600 DDR5 is about as good as you can get for a regular laptop, though handheld variants get the much faster Lpddr5x at up to 7500mhz, which makes a big difference for the Igpu) that is the perfect Igpu for gaming on battery for potentially a few hours (anywhere from 2.5 hours to 6 hours depending on the wattage used). The 780m is more than capable for the most demanding Emulators like PS3 (Rcps3) and Xbox 360 (Xenia) or Switch (Yuzu or Ryujinx), and can play modern Triple AAA games at lower settings (and potentially resolution) with respectable frame rates.
    The only downside to the 7840HS is that it can't be Undervolted. Only the 7940HS can be undervolted, or the regular Zen 4 Dragon Range Cpu's like the amazing 7745Hx and the 7845Hx and 7945Hx.

    • @parham5668
      @parham5668 8 месяцев назад

      @@gamestark9894 Hi , I don't game so I can't respond to your question , I use the 3.2K screen for editing photos and every day use , but as far as I know , there won't be any problems whatsoever if you are going to lower the resolution on games , because you can always decrease the resolution of a screen like 3.2 but you can never increase the resolution of a screen that is full HD 1080 for example, what I want to tell you is the problem exists if you want to increase the resolution of a screen that is not capable ( for example watching a 4k video on a 1080 screen) and not the other way around. Imagine seeing a video for example on RUclips which is HD, you watch it on your screen in HD, as if the maximum resolution of your screen was 1080, so your 3.2 screen behaves like a 1080 one, so there is no problem whatsoever.

    My legion slim 7 will arrive in a couple weeks. Got a pretty nice deal with black friday sale direct from lenovo. I'm coming from a 13" macbook air that lasted 10 years of daily use. I wanted to move to windows due to software limitations of ios. I wanted a laptop with comparable form factor and build quality, without sacrificing too much weight and battery life. This laptop is exactly in that middle ground I was looking for. I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I did want something that could play decently well enough when I'm in bed and have an hour or so to kill. A blend of portability, battery and performance were my priorities.
    One thing I was concerned about was portability coming from a 13" to a 16". But I noticed as screens got bigger, the chassis got smaller. So even though I'm going up 3" in screen size, the laptop itself is not much bigger than my 10 year old 13" air. Can't wait to get my hands on my slim 7.

    I have the Legion Slim 7 Gen6 with a 5800h and 3060 on the 1440p 165hz IPS, and (18 months on) it's been fantastic - gorgeous machining on the metal frame. I upgraded the RAM to 24gb (8gb soldered + 16gb) and added a 2nd NVME drive. Just like you noted in the video, I use it on quiet or balanced mode basically always, including game (not that I'm trying to play the most taxing games - I leave those to my desktop) and this is where I'm happy to tweak some settings or use DLSS to get the best balance of sufficient performance and lower temps/fan-speeds. Honestly, it's still performant enough used like this (and I'll keep it a while yet), but this new model seems to just crush that sweetspot of efficiency and good-enough performance (with some tweaks). Very attractive laptop, though I'm a little skeptical about the real world battery life vs your hypothetical estimates.

    • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  10 месяцев назад +3

      They aren’t hypothetical. The battery draw is shown in hwinfo, and you can keep watching it
      I did testing against me l7i slim. And then with other owners.
      There is always variability, but long story short, this amd model has great battery life
      As for the performance side I have a gaming video soon that I’m recording at the moment. As you say, gaming efficiency at low watts is staggeringly good. I game on silent most of the time

    I have one. I owned a HP laptop before. I don't play games so it might not count to those consider it. The build is a bit cheap. Its flexy compared to my 4+ years old HP. Kinda weaker in terms of keyboard and feel. When I write on a word document there are some times when the lines go white until you type further (honestly don't know why). The build feels nice but I feel like it will last less compared to my HP. The hinge is better then HP. Design is beautiful, but as someone who just regularly uses a laptop for work and just for coding, it might be better to consider something a HP or Dell. The coding IDE is all good, and I haven't properly tried Unreal Engine on it. As someone who doesn't play games, the fans get very loud especially when you plug in the charger. The battery life is just as bad as my old HP, may last a little longer but yeah. A mac might be better for you, even for coding. The top fan sides gets hot for no reason as I use word docs and watch on youtube videos. My experience on my first Lenovo is not too bad but I've gotten use to the annoying stuff. I still think you should consider other laptops.

    Not sure if I like the fact there is some soldered ran socketed ram for the laptop. Having soldered ram will make it nearly impossible to have all matching ram. I feel having all soldered or all socketed ram is the better choice.

    One thing I find really interesting is that I’m in Australia and thanks to your views I finally decided to by the Slim 7i 4060, i7 version and the only version of screen I could get was the 3.2k version you mentioned isn’t available yet, Is the Intel version still solid for both uni and any games I need? It’s ordered just waiting to ship

      Battery won't be as good as the AMD version,4060 isn't that great but it's okay for casual 60 fps gaming on med high settings

      3.2k screen is pretty high res, you’ll need some dlss on AAA games. Then you’ll be fine

    Did you measure the weight of this unit?
    Lenovo lists the weight as 4.4lbs but every single review I could find shows a measured weight of about 4.7-4.8 lbs which is a big difference. All the reviews were based on the Intel version so I'm not sure if there's a difference between that and the AMD.

    The only thing about the Lenovo Slim 7 that I don't like is the lack of Windows Hello IR camera option. The fingerprint scanner is not in a convenient location!

    Unfortunately Lenovo haven’t launched the AMD Legion Slim 7 in my country yet.... so as of now I'm gonna be looking at the Slim 5 AMD, as I want the battery life lol

    I wonder how the long CPU full load noise levels and heat compare between S7 7840HS and ThinkPad P16s 7840U, if fan speed is limited to 1000 RPM and both CPU power is limited to 15-20W or so?

    I gotta be honest my guy.... I didn't even consider this laptop before today. I need to be able to do some light gaming at hotels without killing my bank account. This seems to hit the sweet spot! Definitely going to wait until 10% Rakuten and pull the trigger! Good point the dual channel part of DDR5.... had no clue! Thanks!

      It takes at least 4tb. Not sure above that
      I use a mp34 4tb often. DRAM and TLC. Low cost. I did a review of it on my channel

      It’s very good battery life. With the dGPU disabled the cpu only sips power. I did live testing against the Intel model, as expected amd is much better on battery
