    In February I decided to go full digital nomad and travel through S.E.A., but it was a pain to find a good laptop for my job, as I actually work with videogames. Most gaming laptops are excessively heavy and visually "loud". In the end and thanks to this review, I got this model and I must say it has been the best choice ever. It's not that heavy, it looks pretty neat and the performance is amazing. I upgraded the RAM with a Crucial 32GB (CT32G48C40S5) and it is working without issues.

    to maximize unplugged battery life:
    disable dGPU
    run on battery saver mode
    reduce screen brightness
    enable hibernate when close lid (sleep mode draws more)
    change refresh rate to 60hz or 82.5hz
    use "night light" (mine turns on at 7pm)
    disable HDR video content
    reduce background apps/tasks as much as possible
    set turn off screen after 3 mins inactivity
    set put device to sleep after 15mins, 30 min inactivity
    all the above can be tweaked and adjusted to each persons use case, if anyone has any additional things or settings to add, please do.

    Thanks for the review and time to demonstrate FSR 2.1 performance in a RT heavy game like Cyberpunk. Most reviews have only gone as far as pointing out how poorly the 6800S performs with RT, or how poorly it performs with this title. Nice to see how playable it can be with a small compromise of RT disable and FSR enable...
    Your Timespy score seems to be on the low side for this GPU though. G14 and this laptop were scoring 9000-9100 over at notebookcheck were they not?

    Would you recommend the Slim 7 over the Zephyrus G14? In AMD or Intel configuration?

    • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  Год назад +1

      You can watch my g14 video too.
      Here are the differences assuming same internals:
      G14 is smaller, 14.5 inches.
      G14 is MUCH hotter. Hotter is bad
      Legion is bigger screen but no thicker (good if you want that)
      Legion feels more premium and has a better keyboard and screen
      Basically only go g14 if you NEED a 14 inch laptop. Otherwise the slim 7 is quite literally better in every single way
      Now:
      Amd versus intel. Intel slims don’t really make sense. You get a much worse gpu (3060), and the intel chip will run hotter and drain. Battery faster. Intel laptop aren’t really a good idea unless it’s a desktop replacement (always plugged in) as they die faster, throttle earlier, and lose performance like crazy on battery
      For a slim laptop I’m assuming you want portability so amd is king here. Intel does offer dual nvme slots… but that it. So for slim laptops get the amd slim 7
      If you DO want a bigger laptop check out my legion 5 pro video. That one is really good but bulkier. However the intel makes a touch more sense as at least you are buying a big laptop likely to not be portable

    Honestly there are only two slim gaming laptops this one and Rog flow X16 with good battery life and bigger screen. I see you mentioned in the video X16 is not as nice as this one. May I know what you don't like about the X16 ? I am getting both of these around similar prices and plan to get the 99.99 Wh battery too for Legion if I go with Legion.

    • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  Год назад

      Well the legion will have better cooling for sure, and superior build quality overall. It feels like an ultra premium laptop
      The x13/16 are still nice, bit they feel more
      Gamery.
      Cooling wise the legion will also be superior.
      That being said the x16 has various specification options, so it really comes down to what gpu and such is inside

    • @pinakmiku4999
      @pinakmiku4999 Год назад

      @@TechGuyBeau I think X16 has better cooling coz of its third fan and reviews say it is one of the coolest gaming laptops. I am looking towards the rtx 3060 version. X16 definitely looks more professional than Legion. I am still watching reviews of both these and trying to decide.
      Based on what I have come across in differences:
      Legion: Better build quality, RX 6800S more powerful than 3060(considering similar priced X16 with 3060, X16 has 3070Ti model for $500 more)
      Flow X16: Lightweight, Better battery life, Better cooling, Better future upgradability, Touchscreen, Tablet and stylus support.

    • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  Год назад +1

      @@pinakmiku4999 I wouldn’t rely on the flow having “better cooling” in reality. Both will be very cool overall.
      Mainly it comes down to:
      Better over build quality: legion
      Touch and convertible: x16
      Performance: legion
      Keyboard and touchpad: legion
      Scalability: flow with 3070ti
      Personally I wouldn’t buy a flow x16 with a 3060. It just not that powerful. The legion would be hands down a better buy, no contest.
      BUT a 3070(ti) x16 would be a superb slim powerhouse. I’d say decide based on that
      Lower price; go legion
      Higher price; go x16
      That’s my personal take.

    Hello, a question. Is a legion slim 7 with ryzen 7 5800H, 32gb ram, rtx 3060 graphics card 4K screen at 60Hz better or a legion 5 with ryzen 5 4600H, 16gb ram, gtx 1650ti graphics 2K screen at 120Hz?
    For competitive games I don't know if a 60Hz screen is enough

    • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  Год назад

      A legion slim with 3060 is vastly superior. Remember, 120hz in games is only noticeable if you are getting above 60fps. A 1650 is significantly weaker than a 3060, so you won’t get above 60fps with good settings.
      Also a 5800h is WAY better than a 4600h, as is 32gb ram.
      Screen refresh rate is nice, but I would never sacrifice all those other essentials for some hz

    I remember your 6850M XT review and then several game performance test videos.
    So the 6850 SKU was too pricy for what it was especially compared to the L7 Slim?
    I'm starting to cross-shop this Slim and the L7 6850, especially since Lenovo US has the L7 3070ti variant set to be shipped in March of 2023, the last I checked. That's ridiculous.

    • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  Год назад

      That’s a tough one. The 6850m xt was expensive for me at the time $2800 CAD. It is a top performing laptop, one of the best in existence (the best in my opinion) but that’s a hefty price tag.
      The slim has the exact same build, only a touch slimmer. The primary difference is gpu and upgrades.
      The slim has a 6800s (close to a 3070/ti of equivalent wattage, 100 watts)
      The full 7 has a 6850m xt at 140watts, which is close to a full bore 3070ti full watt or a weaker 3080ti. Basically it is the best amd has to offer, equivalent more or less to the best of nvidia
      IF you need a super slim portable laptop, (but still 16”) it’s hard to beat the slim. Is very powerful for what it is.
      If you are okay with a touch more bulk, the legion 5 pro will easily easily outmatch a slim 7 in gaming performance, although it’s thicker and has crappy speakers.
      If you are mildly patient, I will be also publishing a review of the legion 5 pro (2022) in the next day or so.
      Here is my takeaway:
      - no budget restrictions, get the legion 7 Gen 7. It won’t be beat by anything. This is a 1440p ultra everything machine, or moderate 4K gaming.
      - you need portability but still a large screen and super premium build. Get the slim 7. It’s much cheaper too. It’s a true 1440 middleman for gpu.
      - if you don’t want to overspend, are okay with a tiny bit more bulk, but want BLAZING performance like the full 7… get the legion 5 pro (2022). You can configure it with a 150watt 3070 or 3070ti. It’s a monster.

      @@TechGuyBeau As my student life is winding down and the only time my current laptop, a 15" MBP, leaves the desk is when I want to use it on my bed, I wonder how much portability is an issue for me. I'm still trying to figure it out and the MBP beats most other machines when it comes to size and weight. But I'm looking for a gaming laptop and gaming on a Mac is just not good. It's even worse on the M1 chips since Boot Camp isn't an option.
      Budget is too big of an issue but I've come across the 6850 SKU with 1 TB of SSD and the 6800H (not the 6900HX you had as well as the 2 TB) for $1999. That seems fair to me, even when the L7 3070ti with the same specs is about $60 more. Availability is an issue on the Nvidia variant whereas the AMD can still be here before christmas. I think the L7 Slim from Lenovo's site is about $300 cheaper than the AMD L7.
      I've really been struggling with it since I want to get a laptop that is head and shoulders above my Series S and its performance as I don't want much overlap in gaming capabilities between the two.

      @@gandoo10 the legion 7 amd or Intel will be the most premium gaming laptop you’ve ever felt. I was shocked at its build quality
      It’s not exactly light, it’s 1” bigger than your MacBook and thicker for sure
      It’s not a thick or bulky laptop by any means, every mm is utilized effectively. So you won’t feel like you bought some ugly bulky mess. But… it’s not an ultrabook obviously
      As for amd vs nvidia:
      Intel will have more power when plugged in, but will be MUCH weaker on batter. Amd will be pretty consistent across the board. As for the CPUs, to be honest, I highly doubt in the real
      World the amd or Intel will feel any different other than the battery. In both cases they are very powerful mobile chips.
      So it probably comes down to gpu. The gpu in the amd model is basically the same in terms of raw performance. Some wins, some losses. Nvidia DOES have superior ray tracing. So if you are very concerned with ray tracing then nvidia would be a better buy. If you… like me… care nothing for RT, then it’s irrelevant. Amd does have fsr 2.0 which is nearly as good as dlss, so if you toss in fsr 2.0 you can massively improve frame rates, even in raytracing.
      Personally, I prefer amd processors. As for
      GPUs I don’t really lean one way or the other. If you need it before Xmas, the amd model is a killer killer buy.
      You can check out my other gaming video on the legion 7 Gen 7 amd that focuses on pure gaming. You’ll see how powerful it really is, and what fsr 2.0 can do
      Basically: if you want before Xmas, just get the amd model

      Yep. All ddr5 runs in dual channel, even single sticks. It isn’t like old memory. It’s still better to pair for max speed though.
      So let’s say:
      1. you have 8gb soldered. Nothing else. Dual channel 8gb.
      2. You have 8gb soldered and an 8gb stick = quad channel.
      3. Now mismatched 8 + 16. Your first 16 gb is quad, the remaining 8 is in dual.
      This is a simplification but yeah. Basically in short it won’t really matter in the real world, especially with ddr5 memory.

I have never had temps as high as 91c that is extremely unhealthy. my average fps is around 100-200. Here are the specs on my g14: ryzen 9 6900hs, rx 6800s 32gb ddr4@ 4800MHz, 2TB ssd (gen4). I have had lenovo laptops, they all fail. they have issues and fall apart.

    brother i finally bought the legionslim 7i 12700h 3060.
    At first when observed the screen i had expectations that 1600p would be super sharp. I asked my friend to bring his laptop 1080p and compared and now i know how superduper sharp the 1600p is. It looks so good.
    I downloaded free games like valorant. Pubg. But i couldn't even use x box game pass because i don't have visa creditcard like this. And coukdnt make one. I even recorded a PUBGPC gameolay and its super good looking due to high resokution a 32 min videi is 11GB.
    #Brother my question= should i partition my ssd i have 1tb ssd. Does it slow down ssd.Is it good or bad to partition. If i want
    #I have kept password pin and fi gerprint but sometimes it opens without needibg any of those.?

If i was to insist on getting the AMD version would have bumped up the price well over 2000 AUD, no complaints whatsoever, does all i want it to do without issues. I wonder why not a single review of this laptop covers the intel version... dissapointing

    The 6900hx is substantially more powerful than a 6800h, it's worth every penny. It's overclockable and so it gets to be about 15-20% faster with a proper strong tune

    • @sig3ldunc4nI
      @sig3ldunc4nI Год назад

      That is if your laptop cooling can handle pushing any further than it’s already maxing out at currently. While yes I’m sure an overclock might gain a very small amount of benefits such as 1-3 fps in a game it also sets a your laptop motherboard on fire ultimately lowering your performance lower than where you started. I’d just give it a very small tune and let it run as the good lord intended.
