Just wanna say thanks for the great comments guy’s and I appreciate some of the insight. Just as an FYI, I do work with a sports psychologist on a frequent basis for a good while now. It definitely has helped a whole lot and plan to continue working them.

Hi Eagle, I’m not here to offer up a solution to your avian conflict merely to say that I relate deeply. In totally different parts of my life than disc golf since it’s not my livelihood but never the less. I know it’s not your intention nor is it your responsibility but just in case it might mean something to you, I’d like to tell you that you sharing this means a lot to me. So thank you for that ❤️

Hey man, embrace the crow! Eagles are smart, strong and calculated but crows are mad intelligent problem solvers who are also very emotional and curious. I think both of these things fit you amazingly and fit your game very well. Everyone appreciates how earnest you are in sharing your struggles with us. All of us are rooting for you!

Advice: Do a project or small job you would never want to do for a living sometime before every tournament. When you get on the course and continue your job as a disc golfer, it will be inspiring, and your results will be magically improved to your liking.

Remember you're human and were all flawed and broken at times, but that's what makes us all unique and special. The unfortunate but fortunate circumstance is having to figure that all out in the public eye, which I can imagine causes that state of panic you experienced after the tournament. Anxiety is normal, and it means you're alive and still kicking. You are willing to look within instead of pointing the finger outwards, and that speaks volumes about your character. You're loved as a human being, expectations or not, you're living out your dream, and that's powerful. Wish you nothing but the best, my man, you deserve it👌

I enjoyed watching you sink that putt on 13 for birdie on Saturday. What struck me though was there was a father holding his kid that said nice putt Eagle on 14s tee box and you just replied yeah. I think that yeah mentally folded your crows wings back down and you chose to bawk instead of recognize the true greatness of the putt you just made and the feeling you instilled in the crowd around you. Give that pumped feeling back to the crowd and we will give it right back 10 fold. As much as golf is an independent game it’s also the biggest team sport and you want everyone cheering for you.

There’s a saying in Buddhism that goes something along the lines of “All aspects of our existence both physical and mental are always changing…. Therefore it is better to practice acceptance, rather than resistance”
Remember that whatever thought or feeling that arises within you will always pass because we are changing one moment to the next, one minute to the next, one hour to the next, one day to the next. If a thought or feeling arises, no need to push it away or fight it. It’s completely natural, and as human beings we cannot stop our minds from thinking things. Just allow it to be. And just allow it to pass. Paradoxically, this may actually quiet the negative thoughts in your mind
This is something I live my life by and has helped me through my sickness. It might be able to help you on the course. Thank you for sharing your emotions with us

It can’t be easy going from the super premium old school Innova made Discmania plastic to MVP. I know a lot of ppl like MVP now, but even if you threw for some other company, it must be a lot to switch from the molds you threw for almost a decade.
You’ve got all the god given ability. Like, you literally could not have more of it.
So you just need to get out of your head. Just practice and be disciplined about it.
You’re a little older now, but still so young, but your real mark on the game hasn’t even started.

What you say resonates a lot with me
The Crow is trying to protect you from the pain of falling short of your expectations by telling you to give up.
But even if you come in dead last Eagle > Crow because the eagle is focused on making you happy and healthy and eagle knows that crow is only in your mind.
    Have goals, not expectations.

You’ve had so much success in your career that your expectations of your performance are, of course, super high. That’s the ego thing. But coming off an injury those expectations have to be kept in check.
So keep things in perspective and be reasonable with yourself!

You're demonstrating really good introspective skills here. I don't think you're "overthinking" based on this video, you're clearly just working through some really important psycho-emotional processes. I can't really say anything about the actual content of those processes (they're so subjective), but I will just remind that these things take a lot of time. You're still pretty young, and to already be on this level of introspection makes me confident that you're on a really good road. Also, always remember to be kind and encouraging to yourself. For me it always helps to imagine how I'd respond if a loved one was having the same challenges as me. It always brings out compassionate energy, and then I realise that I should of course show that same kind of compassion towards myself.

You got top 10, but you have all the skills to win it, and when you’re fully back you’re going to be back to force you were before the injury/surgery. What you’ve been able to do so far has been truly impressive, but your mindset is beautiful. For some top 10 at an elite+ is a dream, but for you it could always be better. You’re not quite one with the disc yet (which is understandable) but when you reach that 54-72 hole flow state it’s gonna be electric to watch. We believe in you, and we’re with you.
(Also, you can throw a mile, but when you throw that forehand 400 feet and it looks like barely even flick it…. It’s my favorite shot in all of disc golf.)

This is awesome, you're a stud. Some Zen and Taoist alchemy could help you transmute the feelings that come up into fuel; or rather the problem is thoughts and feelings being "sticky", not their arising itself. -- you've already begun meditation, have you checked out Shinzen Young's "The Science of Enlightenment"? The absolute best source on meditation written for the logical/modern/western mind ...*and* an audiobook so you can absorb it during the drives haha. (It very expressly expounds on the nature of the sensations of negative thought, emotion, and the benefits and opportunities of them if recognized masterfully)
I can't even begin to imagine how intense it must be to try to navigate the mental/emotional game of trying to compete and do this for a living!! But what a badass endeavor

“You’re overthinking” is as useful as “you’re panicking.” Listening to your mind and body so you can remain at ease mentally is one great method of getting yourself to where you can manage your emotions at higher levels. The mind/body conflict you talk about is something I see many athletes ignore and you are diving head on to the journey, bravo! Your authenticity will speak to many and help them as well.

I had same problems Eagle, I had to learn to see the bad shots and the missed putts or spit outs as something of the past. It happened, it is over and there is nothing I can do about what happened as to changing that result. I had to learn to think positively about what I can do going forward to make sure that does not happen again, or do my best to improve on that. I also would get pumped up on spit outs, I just looked at those as it will happen every so often and it was done and over, let that go by time I tee at next hole. Keep you thoughts good and your head up my man.

I don’t know if this is pertinent at all but I’ve always fed the crows at my local course and they never caw when I’m throwing. They’ve also started giving me trinkets and peanuts. Maybe if the crow and the eagle can work together you can avoid inner conflict and have more clarity in the moment. Also got a signed glitch from you at Huk and I’m loving it!

Paralysis by analysis. You're a professional athlete, so focus on a sound body and the mind will follow. Eat well, workout, get solid rest, practice and simply be grateful for earning a great living throwing a plastic disc. Content creation should take a back seat to tournament prep. Podium finishes will generate followers and sponsorships naturally. Life is short and playing careers are incredible short, so maximize performance while you're in this relatively short window of time and the results will set you up for the rest of your life. You'll have plenty of time to analyze your ego once you hang up the discs.

Trauma is a big part of the mental game. There are triggers from childhood that clench up the body and confuse the mind body connection. They have to do with social acceptance and trust, particularly the willingness to trust yourself. Thanks for you share Eagle. I'm very much rooting for you. Remember that your amazing abilities are a huge gift to us. You give us a sense of wonder at what the human body and mind can do when they're in cooperation with each other. Blessings to the crow and the Eagle. May they fly together.

Those mental problems in sports often cumulates from bad childhood experiences. My best friend has similar problems as you and it happens because of his childhood. He played ice hockey as a kid and his dad always tried to push him with negativity. The expectations were always high and he felt that it was never enough what he did. He is still afraid of failing and can't just control his emotions in those moments.

I think its important to remember what the last year has been for you. You had surgery on the literal joint you use to play, all the while playing left handed because you were switching sponsors. You have put so much pressure on yourself that you forget to look at the wake you created. What you have accomplished this past year is nothing but progress, but you are looking for ways to say it isn't good enough. Being a perfectionist in your craft is almost needed, but remember to give the human side of you a little break. Champion yourself, realize how far you have come, appreciate your thirst for more, and take everyday like you have approached this past year.

I’ve never been ranked #1 in the world. I’ll never know what it’s like to have gone through what you have in the last couple years, but I do understand how difficult and hard it is to put ones self before others and lay out my fears, stressors, and feelings. Eagle your a great competitor and your recovering from your injury, much of that injury was mental. You CAN do this. Keep pushing forward and don’t give up. Sounds like loving & embracing the bad & imperfections is your next challenge. Difficult times show us strengths we're meant to learn.

Personally, Eagle, I found that the only way to kill or disable “the crow” is to play against nature, and not others - to stay entirely in the moment with what nature is offering you as a challenge.
I was a top player in baseball and tennis in my youth, and there were high expectations from my family and friends and fans whenever I stepped on the field or court.
I tried to “block out” those expectations, even though I appreciated them very much. But as competitors, they simply can’t be blocked. They have to be accepted for what they are - other people”s hopes for us.
As human beings, us competitors feel an obligation to satisfy those hopes, but that is a rabbit hole that leads to the crow’s nest for our psychology. The crowd ends up becoming both our boss and our destroyer, diverting our focus from our own potential greatness.
I had to learn to say in my head before each competition, “thank you very much, my friends and fans, for your hopes and dreams and even demands on my performance, but I must be ME and do as I think best and try to be the best that I can be against nature herself.”
It takes practice to both appreciate the crowd and ultimately ignore it in the moment.
You are quite obviously a thoughtful and sensitive person, so it can be even more difficult for someone like you. You may think you’re being insensitive, but ironically, when you’re capable of staying in the moment, you perform your greatest and win the most, thereby satisfying the crowd , whom you have learned to ignore momentarily.
You’re one of my top five favorites on the disc golf tour. I wish you the very best.
    Dax

Imagine going through all that at sea ...in combat ...as a pilot mechanic/ in the U.S. NAVY. It happens to all of us. You'll be okay bud, you are just maturing is all. Embrace your gifts and the fire inside and everything will balance out. You found greatness at a very young age, and you're just growing up. You have been gifted by God/ the Universe (whatever you believe in that is bigger than yourself) with very high intelligence, business savvy, unbelievable athletic ability, friendliness and most of all humility and a humble spirit. It is who you are. Who you always been. Who you will always be. Not some crow-hawk anger-bird thing. No. I met you when you were just a young teenager up at Phantom Falls playing tags. You were with your dad and I was giving him a hard time for bringing you because you were smoking us all on the scorecard, so I was joking around with him the whole round about how he was using you to sandbag lol. I had a blast. You were playing tournaments, but you were just a kid. Even if you never throw another disc, you have made us all so proud here in Colorado. Heck, in the entire U.S. and around the world you made people proud of you--and want to know and emulate you. You even got famous! Be careful with that. Ask anybody!! Enough rambling; two things: First: Your Mom would be very proud of you and we all love and miss you back home 💙 Second: Does MVP even make an actual "Distance" driver? Their two piece rims wear out too fast and the plastic is always sticky. Their griplock results are always pitiful. I love MVP, but I have to throw proven brands off the teebox. The Mayhem is okay I guess ...you guys need to get in the lab on 'one piece' real big boy disc's imo ...but I digress. The important thing is you are not a crow and we live you Eagle. Don't be too hard on yourself. I was my entire younger life, and I regret it every day when I wake up in painful agony. I'm only 47-years-old, but least I can still throw though. HMU for the chumps vs Champs thing next year. Johnny Roberts was a friend of my dad's. We could do it there. We will crush you! Challenge sent. Johnny would also be proud of you!!!

Hey Eagle, I love this kind of video!
I'm a former video games world champion and got the best advise from a psychologist ever: When you are on the course and you realize that things aren't going your way, emotions are boiling up, distractions happen, whatever undesired. You tell yourself "Stop.". Just "Stop." - no reason or anything. It's an insanely strong signal word for us, you literally kill your current thought with it. Your brain of course won't stop firing the next signal (that's how the brain works), but you just keep repeating "Stop.". Continue so until you only have "normal" thoughts. This won't help you get into the "flow", which is considered the optimal state. But it will heavily reduce the length of negative ones.

The book The Catalysm of the Kingdom of Heaven establishes a humble prayer called the Intimys. If you are struggling with pride, it might be the antidote you are looking for.
If you are inviting the wrong spirits with your meditation, it is likely creating the Crow persona. I would be fleeing from that.
Will this humble prostration help you win? I can't say. But you will have peace and your spirit will no longer be at war with itself.
    Good luck. God bless.

You see a physical therapist to keep your body strong. Do you see a mental therapist to keep your mind strong as well? I think you could really benefit from a therapy technique called Internal Family Systems (IFS). There is a great book called No Bad Parts by Richard C. Schwartz that could help you with the mental mastery. I'd also seek out a therapist familiar with the IFS technique. Most of them do sessions over video calls too, so you can even be sure to have a meeting if you need one when you're on the road.
We all appreciate the honesty and the sincerity in these types of videos. Thank you for being so transparent with your fans. I have no doubt that you will be able to overcome your own expectations of yourself and be able to feel like Eagle again and not The Crow. Keep on dreaming ✌️

Yo Eagle, Body, Mind and Spirit is the deal. And at the Center of it all is the Heart Center. “ Controlling” these experiences is a rabbit hole, too much Brain! When meditating use your “ interoceptive” ability to connect with your heart Center. It is your go to guide. You’re smart, you got this.

As a fellow over-thinker, I know "dude you're just over-thinking" doesn't help one single bit. It's not like we don't know that we're over-thinking, but when a thought gets planted in your brain it's extremely difficult to get rid of. The course is for me the place where I can most easily get rid of these thoughts by just focusing on the game, of course unless the issue I'm having is with the game itself...

My fellow disc golfer,…. I don’t think there is a “dark side of Eagle”. I think that “Crow” represents the fierce competitor that you are. When I get mad/upset/frustrated, it’s because I want to win. I personally think that caring about your performance, and getting pissed, isn’t a bad thing. I hope that made sense brother

We all have to contend with our own ego getting in the way. I picture it like spikes or porcupine quills that grow outward from our body and eventually impeding our movement through the world. Causing us discomfort and potentially hurting others. Eventually no matter who you are you need to prune back those spikes. Expectation and incredulity are enemies of inner peace. It's certainly not for everyone but Terence McKenna suggested 5GISD and believe me it does the trick. Like a trip through the total perspective Vortex it will set you straight on your place in the universe

Eagle, don't be so hard on yourself. You are still fresh from recovery and sometimes mental recovery can take longer. You have the game in you, in your blood and in your heart. Just earlier this year, Simon didn't even make the cut and a couple tournaments later he won. My biggest flaw ( in anything I compete in ) is being to hard on myself. Everyone around me says I do great things but I only see my flaws. Your tournaments will come back around once you start having fun again. Keep your head up and move forward. Your fans are always going to be there for you and haters will always find a way to hate. In fact, right now you are crushing it on the OTB Skins match.

Eagle, thank you so much for your transparency in your feelings! Not many people would be willing to share that honestly especially after having a difficult outing. I deal with that a lot myself and I find the only time I can gain the peace and my heart is when I am, holy surrendered to God’s control. That’s when I get true lasting peace. God bless you and thank you for all you do. Todd.

You are coming back from an injury and I'm sure that this affects several things including confidence. You said yourself that you are doing everything you can to get where you want to be and maybe you just need to have a bit more trust in the process and not expect everything all at once. I think eventually you will break through the barriers (physical or psychological) if you just keep pouring yourself into the craft. It's good that you are self aware and interested in the psychology behind what's driving you. Just try not to become consumed by it and wear yourself out in the process.

Whatever you got to do to love it, man. You are living your own life. It can be difficult when you feel like you are doing everything right but not seeing results. Perhaps a sports psychologist could be helpful in working through your mental state. Or maybe just try shrooms, haha. But you live your life how you want to! We all love you!

The Eagle and the Crow! That's such a cool way to add a visual analogy to that experience. Perhaps these two halves of yourself can eventually find more harmony and balance. Perhaps neither needs abolishing! Stoking the competitive flames within does tend to produce expectations, but maybe knowing that shadow can't be abolished may help console the pain of loss or falling short of expectations. If you can live with the pain of caring and falling short, then perhaps this will lend some patience to the process. much love

Seems like you are searching for contentment, while also balancing it with expectation.
    Easier said than done.
I would say you are such a figure in disc golf already that you don’t need to worry about performance just let it come.
What you did last year in Europe just proves that without the expectations you perform better. Don’t put pressure on yourself.

You know eagle. I very much love and respect the fact that you do these posts. I feel that they are just as good for us as they are you, especially for the younger crowd. Let me say this though. I'm a 36-year-old man who grew up in a very hard life and I will never understand your struggle. But what I can tell you is is that you are making the right moves. You are thinking about things in the right way. You have 100% of us as your fans, love and support and to that end, the only advice that I can give you is that comparison is the root of all evil. So making you up your mind to only compete against yourself is an absolute must. But looking at the last two years of your career and the injury and the surgery and those types of things and you having to rebuild your muscle memory and you are working so hard in the process of building yourself up again, you should probably dock your expectations to before you were a pro and if that's when you were 15 years old even or something like that, put yourself back in where you were, then about why you were doing it and let that be your medium. While when you're not on the course tackling the things you are in now that will give you the ability to perform in a way that is comparable to your body's development at its current stage, which should help level the playing field for yourself. That's about the best I got and I say that with all the love that I have in me to try and support you and you don't even know me so this may never even reach your eyes. But I hope you see it. We love you. Success is the journey, not the destination and you are a success

Give yourself Grace when your expectations don’t meet the reality of situations. I could see how high level athletes would struggle with humbling themselves when they’re not playing up to their so called standards, but if expectations are suppressed i would believe you could play much more free. How to accomplish this, id say meditation is a good start. Good luck this season.

Not going to lie Eagle, you are honestly one of my favorite pros out there. You are genuine, passionate and just REAL of a person. I am grateful and also think it’s funny because I have literally been going to the same thing. Obviously not to your extent, you are a pro, have tons of fans and eye looking at you, and like you said have your personal expectations and the feeling of needing to fulfill the fans expectations as well. And I am sorry you are going through all this and feeling all of this. For me is more personal expectations I put on myself and wanting to do better in my tournaments because I know I am better then what I am recently been showing. So I recently asked some friends that are significantly better than I am to play a round with me and my biggest take away was the mental game, and ended up tie my personal best for that course and cashed an ace in that same round. So after the round and reflecting, I realized literally the same thing g you were saying, during round I get made with a bad shot and then let it get to me instead of just being there in the moment and not let it get to me and play the game I know how to play. That I need to play the game I know to play and not do what my other side of my brain thinks “should” be done.
Long story long, lol, thank you for posting this video and I know your struggles and I know you will get through it and over come and conquer it! Thank you for being the person you are…!!!!!

If you feel the panic coming on again... Just run your hands under running after and tell your brain the details of how the water, temperature, sensation, and more. Just keep flourishing with details to get your mind from running off.
Honestly anything can work. Even seated you can detail the sense of weight between you and seat. Or lie in the grass and feel the grass blades, nature's scent, etc.
    Keep on keeping on man

Our feelings are where we experience the moment and yet our emotions lie to us constantly. When you receive a gift of a great shot it remains your gift. Stay in the joy of the gift and laugh at the humanity that messes up the next hole. You, regardless of score, are amazing. If you didn’t care, we wouldn’t either.
