Sooo, I'm 5'8" which an ummm, rather extensive dating history and I've thought about this in depth. Firstly, I think percentile becomes a huge factor, I love being my height because in reality, the entire world is designed for it. Percentile wise, I'm also taller than 95% of women so dating doesn't become an issue. Still, my preference is either 5'2" and under or 5'7" and over which may seem odd but again, percentiles. Most women want to be taller than their partner when wearing heels, I don't date women that wear heels but that not withstanding I'm taller than women 5'2" and below even with heels on (them not me) and girls 5'7" plus are used to being taller than men when they wear heels and have stopped caring. In short hahaha I've dated 4'11" to 6'1" and found that tall women really stop caring about partner height at some point and it's no longer a factor, at least with the women I date. I'll also add that dating based on height comes with other factors, I mean, you have to be the type of person who would partner select based on that and for me it's at the very very bottom of the list. I see 5'7" and 4'11" as a huge bonus, outside of that it's just what it is without much thought. My friend who is 6'4" also, prefers tall women, my friend who is 6'7" married a woman 5'2" and didn't like tall women or the as he called it entitlement to date him they seemed to feel. I wonder if your perception that tall women have fewer options led you to treat them differently and that treatment might have made them more likely to end the connection. Perhaps if you did the study double-blind (where you don't know the height of each woman you are dating), it might be more operationally valid.
I honestly don't even care what women's preferences are, I just enjoy being tall. I like the long swept-back hair with mustache and side-burns aesthetic, with hairy chest, tracksuit and gold chain. Basically, the ideal archetype of a suave macho man from the 60's to the 80's, replaced by the effeminate musician archetype since the 1990's. This type of man doesn't need to be tall and usually isn't. Think Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson), Dylan Minette (13 Reasons), Timothee Chalamet (Dune) or Zac Efron. They all have very feminine, child-like features with big eyes, soft jaw-lines and are all 170 something cm. Even though my 70's gangster look was also worn by smaller men back in the day, since there was a major emphasis on masculinity it looked kind of silly if you weren't tall and lean. As for what I consider tall, I would say 185cm/6'1 and up. I am personally 191cm/6'3.
Though there are percentages, it would have been more appropriate to say the number or at least a range of how many people you have dated to make the viewer understand the data a little better on you overall dating abilities and experience (if you can track down hights of all the women you've dated, I don't see how this would be a problem unless this is prying too much).
Thanks Charles. Yes I debated this as well but decided to omit it because I was concerned that reporting the raw sample sizes might compromise the anonymity of the women.
@@DataTime27 maybe we can interpret it as the percentage to the total number of women. It would be conserving the anonymity but also meeting this requirement @footbag8402 pointed out. I'm not very good at statistics. Please correct me if there's something I should take care of here.
Rather and tall or short, I would do this analysis based on the difference in heights between the genders. It could be that women will want a man at least 4 inches taller than them so that they can wear shoes of any height without appearing taller than the man. I doubt women care about the man's height, but many will care about people's perception regarding her ABILITY to find a suitable (socially, taller) mate.
I'm young rn (around 12.5 years old) and one of my friends, who is younger than me with a few good months, is 5'8 and I'm 5'3 and I always see him getting more girls than me. Then I'm just like 'are you kidding me!?' I'll just have to see if I become 6ft+ in the future :/
what do you expected, to get more girls cuz u taller? dont be silly my boy. Be interesting. Be a suave, chill and secure youngster and it will work out good. Also get a good posture.
Maybe put away the measuring stick and be present with the woman during your date. 😉 Also, could it be that you're biased against shorter women such that you're much less likely to break up with someone who is over 6' thereby skewing the ratio in favor you tall women dumping you?
You likely need much more data. Many more people both men and women involved with this would make it a statistically significant experiment. This data would likely not back up any model in any kind of peer reviewed research due to lack of data and without that data we can’t rule out thousands of other factors being correlated with the breakups.
I am 165 cm(5'5) and my boyfriend is 182cm so between us is 17 cm diffrence. On flat shoes top on my head reach to his mouth, but when I wear 10 cm heels I am above his eyebrows. Do u think that good diffrence?
I find this topic kind of fascinating as an outside observer. I'm gay and really, I couldn't even say which way around my preference goes. I'm slightly taller than average so the people I date skew slightly shorter than me, but truly, I just don't care. And I don't really get why straight people care so much. It seems like an old fashioned thing, the man must be taller and the woman must stay at home to raise the kids, that sort of deal. But all my hetero friends are very progressive and don't have those expectations at all, yet every one of them, man or woman, tall or short, still wants the woman to be shorter in any relationship they have. At most, some accept equal heights. And I know two very tall woman and one short man who all suffer from this expectation. Needlessly, in my eyes, but clearly I just don't get it.
PSA TO THE MEN IN THE COMMENTS: 99.99999% of women would never reject a man just because she thinks he's short/(insert other physical feature). it's definitely something that y'all are doing wrong/she's JUST not into you. there's no need for some of y'all to go on a "all women are the same" rant
hahaha, I don't know how many women you've approached, but many will literally not talk to you at all, and face opposite of you, they'll give you the strongest rejection possible, height makes a massive difference, I have very good social skills and I'm 5"4, have talked to hundreds of women and I can tell you, the treatment is significantly different for a short man
There's lots of other factors besides height. There's personality. Some women might love your personality while some probably just think you are a dork. Being tall might get you noticed, but unless someone wants to keep you around to reach things on high shelves, it probably doesn't help you keep a relationship going. Also, you are only using your own dating experiences. You probably need at least experiences of at least 100 men of your height to get any useful results.

A preference for taller men goes back to prehistoric times. Back then a taller man could reach higher onto trees to pick fruit, so he could better feed himself and his family. Perhaps there is also a maximum limit. Super tall men often have a shorter lifespan, like Robert Wadlow (8 feet +) died at 21.
not a lot my man. You just grew the max you could have. I know people with +15 cm over their dads. I'm a man 172 tall and my dad and mother are 164 and 157 respectively. That makes me as tall as i could have been

Nope. It’s an issue because women are surprisingly quite a bit shallower than men are.
Much the same short women seem to experience with short men. That was a long way of me saying nothing really but I do like women ( :

I wonder if your perception that tall women have fewer options led you to treat them differently and that treatment might have made them more likely to end the connection. Perhaps if you did the study double-blind (where you don't know the height of each woman you are dating), it might be more operationally valid.
Yeah that's an interesting theory. In practice it might be difficult to implement a double blind experiment

I am personally 191cm/6'3.
how does this guy know im watching tom scott in the ad lol
I'll make a video on that
Usually it’s not the nerdy part that throws women off, it’s the narcissistic part that is the woman repellent.
Great Vid!!
Like, instead of saying the raw number, just the fraction to the total, seems like a good idea.

Maybe put away the measuring stick and be present with the woman during your date. 😉 Also, could it be that you're biased against shorter women such that you're much less likely to break up with someone who is over 6' thereby skewing the ratio in favor you tall women dumping you?
Yes I'm wondering if that might be biasing the results as well
I love it 😊
I have a friend who is 7'3" and he knows what it's like to struggle to find a date when you're super tall
7'3" ?
Wtf.
You likely need much more data. Many more people both men and women involved with this would make it a statistically significant experiment. This data would likely not back up any model in any kind of peer reviewed research due to lack of data and without that data we can’t rule out thousands of other factors being correlated with the breakups.
I checked and the data I collected is enough to be statistically significant
@@DataTime27 How many data points do you think you need for that? What was your p-value?

Women supposedly want a man that's 8-9 inches taller.

hahaha, I don't know how many women you've approached, but many will literally not talk to you at all, and face opposite of you, they'll give you the strongest rejection possible, height makes a massive difference, I have very good social skills and I'm 5"4, have talked to hundreds of women and I can tell you, the treatment is significantly different for a short man
@@CountChokcula In short, all women are the same

Why am I watching this? Im 5 foot 2 male lol!!!!
2:34 how tal is your brothar?
Haha. It was just a simulation of a tall person and a short person
Yes but why do all of the tallest women think I'm a dork, wheras most shorter women don't?

A preference for taller men goes back to prehistoric times. Back then a taller man could reach higher onto trees to pick fruit, so he could better feed himself and his family.
Perhaps there is also a maximum limit. Super tall men often have a shorter lifespan, like Robert Wadlow (8 feet +) died at 21.
