    I just bought a 5 string bass because I like smooth jazz. However, I am a beginner. I play a little guitar but have never played bass. Did I make a mistake with the purchase? You can hardly find instructions on a 5 string. Nice tutorial btw. Cheers Roger

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  Год назад

      I wouldn’t say it’s a mistake although I’d usually recommend a 4 string for a beginner. I do have a few 5 string lessons (search on my site or channel). It’s a little more specialised than a 5 but the patterns are the same and if you really want to, you can learn it with hard work.

    How do you know and decide when it's ok to use a flat note in the scale? Noticed a lot of flats in these patterns

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  Год назад

      You learn the formula that makes up a scale and that tells you which notes are sharp or flat. The circle of 5ths/4ths can help to memorise major and relative minor keys.

  • @haappy_trelegend
    @haappy_trelegend 8 месяцев назад +1

    so if i use a minor shape but im playing in a major key would i have to move it to the relative minor for it to sound right?

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  8 месяцев назад

      Yes, which would effectively mean you are using the major version since they contain the same notes. E.g. if you’re in G Major, playing G Major (or G major pentatonic) is the same as playing E Minor (or E Minor pentatonic).
