In the latest episode of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Arc anime, episode 24, Too Early to Win, Too Late to Know, we're shown another tantalising glimpse 1000 years into the past as Yhwach steals Reio's Left Arm from Ichibei, while in the present, Squad Zero defends the Royal Palace from the Schutzstaffel's onslaught! This is easily one of the best episodes of TYBW to date - the end of the cour is looking very bright!

57:30 I actually think the sound isn't Nimaya moving, but Sayafushi being so sharp that it cuts the very air around it, causing the sword to have no drag and thus causing a weird sound and not the sound a normal swing would cause

The Quincy girl in the beginning of the episode that fires at ichibei I feel like she held the schrift the x axis at that time. No solid evidence but the gun she used and the line in the episode “you bring shame to the x axis name” just makes me think of that. I could be way off though

I'm seeing some WW2 parallels here regarding the Licht Reich. We do know that Bleach takes place loosely in the real world (London in Burn the Witch and Japan). Maybe the quincies are based on Axis Powers in WW2. We have German and Japanese quincies, so there might be some Italian quincies running around somewhere. There are other Axis states, so this could tie in with what Osho is saying about Juha's unification of quincies.

If hollowfying the shinigami hollowfies the bankai, the actual death of the shinigami should kill the bankai.

@NinjaJamez True... maybe that's why Genryuusai felt that it was so weak compared to the real deal. That certainly wasn't the experience of captains fighting their own bankai.
The Quincy girl is possibly the person Haschwalth sends to the World of the Living to save the Quincy.
Never noticed just how hilariously short pernida is, compared to the others he looks like a kid in a costume
A detail that I find intriguing is that the Quincy sigils in the room during the flashback only have 3 divisions/sections rather than the 5 that seem to be the current Quincy symbol. Does anyone more knowledgeable have an explanation? Loved this episode and Mr. Tommo's reaction and breakdown!
I actually discuss that at some point in the video, but the three-pointed Y symbol was the emblem of the Lichtreich 1000 years ago. The 5-pointed star we see today is adopted 1000 years ago, actually before the flashback in this episode, upon the creation of the Sternritter unit specifically, and is technically their emblem - but it would become the emblem of the Wandenreich itself once the Lichtreich fell.
Ichibei is honestly robotic in his blind loyalty to the actions and objectives of the founders as opposed to "pragmatism". To him, the word of the founders is absolute, consequences be damned.
Also, I love how this flashback complicates the previous picture we had of Ywach as this completely self-serving, cowardly monster. At one point at least, he genuinely cared about the suffering of the souls he took/absorbed, even if he wasn't a great guy, but I guess centuries of experiencing their suffering and a millennium of waiting surgically removed what empathy he might have had. He's still a fascist, but he feels more human all the same, and it really connects him to Old Man Zangetsu.
EDIT: I really, really hope they don't skip over the reactions of the Stërnritter down below as the Auschwällen hits them. Those moments were genuinely gripping even in the manga.
Why do I have the weirdest feeling that he's like some sort ancient homunculi/konpaku made by the five families, he just has this weird uncanny aura

The anime has really done well for Bleach tybw arc. It gave Kubo a second chance to improve and edit the story a bit and he did not waste this chance.
Yet some people, cough twitter cough, are acting like whining b*tch morons complaining the animation is bad. Seriously are they blind, the animators clearly put more love in this series than with Boruto
Only jujutsu kaisen has better animation segments but bleach is not much behind and bleach is more consistent

@@stevenwayne3701the story is most definitely not exactly the same and we're gonna start to see that in cour 3 and especially cour 4. the two biggest things are that 1. ichibei at one point had the arms of the soul king and 2. ichigo knows both about reio and the original sin. both of those can have pretty huge implications for both the history of the series and the ending
Jujitsu is rad, definitely good on showing movement, but the backgrounds and composition in Bleach are so clean and sharp. Like every shot looks like a stand alone work of art. Probably one of the best examples of expertly using positive and negative space and the solid red and then blue sky just makes everything pop. Kind of getting Patrick Nagel-ish vibes and I'm here for it. If ypu dont know, he's the dude who does those 80's posters found in nail salons that basically everyone over than 30 has scene.

In the manga I always read that scene between Gerard and Askin as Gerard threatening Askin, but with the way the VA delivered the line, it sounds a lot more like a friendly banter. Honestly, I like the anime team's take (or Kubo clarifying) the schutzstaffel's relationship.
Ichibei's jovial and lighthearted characterization drives home his sinister aura especially given his plan to seal Ichigo as the next Spirit King.
You guys are making it sound more nefarious than it actually is.
Ichigo was a backup linchpin in case of the apocalypse. The math is simple. Ichigo dies anyway if all of reality implodes back into a singularity.

I just can't even imagine Cours 3 & 4... like literally what are they gonna do ? Adapt half the amount of chapters as they have been ? Add new content and new fights throughout the episodes ? Cover CFYOW ? God there's just so many possibilities

@elemomnialpha yea they could add some actually interesting stuff in a 5th season showing what kind of mission ichigo was on during CFYOW. They could actually make it very interesting. I can't imagine a whole Bleach season with only Soul Society characters.
It may sound fanficy but they could pull a Burn the witch collab.
Bleach TYBW arc = Ichibe & Yhawch stories Ichigo truly feels like a secondary character, despite being the main character.
And this is amazing, huge focus on other characters, this is Yhwach war, Ichigo is just one of them to stop him.
Another cool thing about Nianzol body getting dropped from Royal Palace is that now we know why Yhwach won't revive him with Auswahlen like others sternritters

Do you think Kubo would actually give Uryu a kill from Squad 0? That would be ballsy and there would be no witnesses to it. Killing a member of squad 0 would go over better then killing someone’s from the 13 court gaurd squads
I bet Antithesis can easily counter Shutara.
The cool thing about Uryu using his Antithesis is that he doesn’t simply switch the positions of Yuha and the badge. As it’s explained, Uryu takes two things and reverses something that has already happened between them.
So Yuha threw the badge outside of the cage and Uryu made it so that the badge threw Yuha outside of the cage.
It’s really interesting because despite how powerful it is, the ability still has limitations. Uryu can’t just switch the positions of two people or things at a whim, those two targets had to have previously interacted with each other in a way that put them in those positions. Makes me wonder if he will do anything in the fight ahead because he could just sit back and use the Antithesis on his allies and the Zero Division to completely turn the tide.
I love Senjumaru so much! She's such an absolute queen, I hope we get to see much more of her and the zero division!

Yhwach Bach and Otto von Bismarck have the same goals, unifying all 39 German states to form the German Empire and Unifying all the Quincy Nations to form an Empire that will conquer the Soul Society.

I love everything the anime has done and how it has expanded the story, glad to see Kubo being allowed to flesh out the story as he wanted. I wonder if the anime has been making Ichibei seem more ominous than the manga not just to portrait him but perhaps because he might play a bigger role in the upcoming hell arc as a potential villain. Whatever the case exciting anyway.
I just hope the fights don't feel rushed like gremmy vs zaraki.
The cut of meteor reactions didn't make the fight rushed.
I think that the sound Oetsu makes is actually the sound of the zanpakto, which is wobbling and unstable. We can actually hear the sound when he reflects Lilles projectiles, and he is not moving in that moment, just swinging the sword.

The flashback to before the first Quincy Invasion was the best part of TYBW so far, imo. It gives so much context for Yhwach, and it also explains one of the most mysterious Schutztaffel. I feel like there will be more flashbacks explaining Reio much better than the manga ever could.

I'm thinking what Uryu was using was charging up blut arterie rather than blut vene. Also, I'm thinking Yhwach might use Aueschwahlen on himself against Ichibe rather than use it to revive the Shut Staffel
God, Ichibei would make a great villain. Kind of hope he ends up being the main antagonist of the Hell Arc, if we ever get it.
Can totally see him commanding a Hellish host in order to try and catch and groom Kazui (who we can assume is infused with a bit of Yhwach's Almighty) into being his evil sidekick, or something👀

If you look at the flash back again of Ichibei holding the Soul King you'll notice Ichibei is slightly looking to his left hand and is holding his left palm open. This seems to indicate that he was gifted the left arm of the soul king which would explain how he got it.

I like that they changed tenjiros entrance it makes the zero division look 1000x better because he wasn’t struggling with a Quincy who’s not even a royal guard😂 and then for sunjamru to beat him instantly it just made him look useless tbh😂 i hope they let him fight in the finale though that’s for sure, but i like that they all introduced themselves like this!

This is the happiest I've ever seen Tommo lol
I like to think the original Schutzstaffel were just maxed out/Master level Quincys before Yhwach created the shrifts for the current war. They don't appear to have Schifts or transformations yet for added power. There are only Soldlets in the flashback. So Yhwach and his army was was way weaker in the past then the current. The OG Gotei didn't have to deal with Almighty, Captain level-Sternritters, or bankais getting stolen.
So now I'm curious if the Original Gotei were really all that powerful seeing as they had a easier time to deal with compared to the modern Gotei 13. That is some serious discussion to be had there in that.
yuha wouldnt see the need to praise them if they were indeed that weak, his royal guard was probably OP aswell, i mean he already had pernida to begin with.
they probably just didnt have time to adapt visuals of them flexing their abilities in such a short flashback.
Honestly I'm more than impressed and satisfied with the additions and I can't wait to see more in the upcoming episodes! Of course the same applies to your reviews!
I’m really glad we get to see this side of YHWACH. I always questioned his whole “getting rid of the fear of death” and “hating conflict” ideology. But this adds a lot of depth. He at one time really did believe in this and empathize with them on a whole different level. He could feel their anguish and cries. And I think on some level he still does believe in this. It feels like the previous fight with the shinigami had hardened him. And once he goes mad with power after absorbing the soul king then he really becomes kinda just insane. I’m glad we finally get some more backstory also on the soul kings parts and how they joined him. Hopefully we get to see more on how he got the soul kings heart. And it’s looking like he truly is the soul kings son and his mother was more of a Virgin Mary type character.
It's that contradiction that makes Ywhach very interesting... Further, the shinigami do not look at things as right and wrong but as law. As for Quincy, it's about fairness and justice... So conflict and eradicating blah blah is achievable since conflict is means to the end not viewed as evil way of achieving something

yeah im also going with the theory pernida was a human host for the arm like ukitake was and shown here with ichibei and yhwach, whether its this girl or not. I think its really telling how it tried correcting mayuri saying that it's the left arm of the soul king, which is indeed true, but it seemed like it wanted to assert that it was "pernida" rather than the label mayuri used.
This episode was genuinely incredible and this analysis makes it so much better.

I think the flashing near Uryu's chest is his Quincy medallion being "charged up" for use later with The Antithesis and the blut on his eyes is him "defending" against the illusion and seeing the cage being built around them.
I don't think that works though does it? Unless Senjumarus actual shikai is similar to Aizens but it just looks like she physically weaved this illusion
@rev0568 idk. The anime writers are taking liberties but that's how I saw it.
The fake royal palace is not a regular illusion but a physical copy. I think uryu was looking directy at the sun and used blut to protect them

@thebreifcaseman269 I think Kubo is only involved in a consultant role, unless I'm mistaken. I believe the writers are doing the bulk of the work on this stuff. And I love it. The new material is FANTASTIC. Just to be clear.

That opening sequence with the meeting was badass, I've already seen people simping for the machine gun quincy girl , chop chop BBS devs I got the orbs ready
Also that whole origin with Pernida mean that Yhwach was crippled in the fight against Yama in the original conflict, Ichibei set him up to lose which is a nice gap they explained.
The intros for the Zero Squad was great like that little cartoony sound effect they used for Hikifune from when she popped from behind the tree had me cracking up and seeing the Numbah one Zanpaktou creator in action was sweet, (iirc he did say it in the episode)It was great in the manga and it was great here. I love the sound effect they gave for Sayafushi's swing.
Also that little moment with Askin is so underrated.
I really thought for a second when Yhwach threw the button it was Yama's bankai to escape the life cage but then he swapped and I was like oh shit it's Uryu power

When first seeing # 24s flashback, first thought was "i cannot wait to see Tommo flip out about this"
That was an awesome review of a really great episode. I am kind of sad that there are only 2 more episodes, but there are 2 more cours, which makes me happy. Part of me wishes that the last two cours will surprise us with more than 13 episodes, but I doubt it. The ending of this cour and the last two should be epic and I am glad you are so great at explaining things. I wonder how long we will have to wait for the cour after this one is done. But this was a fantastic episode. Plus, I do like that Ichibe is trying to play both sides.

The whole first arc of BLEACH establishes how all of our main characters have lost someone close to them and how their bond survives and they continue to live in relation to that loss.
So it's only fitting that the final antagonist is driven by that same sense of loss and connection to the suffering of everyone he's ever connected to.

I really like how the anime has emphasized how sketchy Ichibe is. It works as both excellent foreshadowing to the Original Sin, and also makes his defeat by Yhwach feel like some well deserved karma for him and the propaganda he has made the Soul Reapers believe in for so long. The flashback being in black and white was a very nice artistic choice as well.

43:59 this is what I was thinking, its a hint that he knows he's about to play a part in the fight, which is either alluding to him vs Ichigo, or another fight theyre gonna do outside of manga canon. (also interesting to me that yup the phrasing "his heart", the pin is directly over his heart at the moment Orihime's talking about him. Personally I think this is yet another hint at where his allegiance really is. Theyve done really well with giving his words and actions double meaning...
I always thought it would be so much better if Tsukishima and Uryu were better used in the end. The fact that Uryu can use his powers this way can help deceive YH in a much better way. If Ichigo has some Soul king powers, then maybe YH couldn't see his future or his death. Than the arrow could be shot at Ichigo and in the next moment the antithesis could invert that to hit Yh. Something that Yh could never foresee.
Maybe Uryu could use his powers to bring back Ichigo's bankai or all the powers Yh's taken from him. That still isn't very clear to me.
Anyway, his powers are perfect to use this way because no one can predict since it's indirect, it adds another layer to things Yh can see but maybe not fully understand, like when Aizen shows. Imagine that combo
Cour 3 and Cour 4 is going to be so fun man, we're essentially might see a lot of new things going forward!
Also consider for Ep 26, that there are many new setups in chapters 605-611, that can easily be moved to next cour. Namely, the Shunsui and Ukitake meetup and the Visoreds and Yushiro meeting up with Kisuke
