Can confirm. I lived in an overlay until I was in my early 20's and when the real reality smashed me out of it, I fell into a massive depression. It took me years and years to recover.
The concept of putting a situation on mute is genius!

MaCoeur I suspect God or Source or whatever values ideas that we come up with on our own more than ideas we just take on faith. Then they aren’t “tacked on” but something that’s a part of us, something alive. We know them from the inside, not just from the outside. It’s like God/Source says: “You finally figured it out! Now here’s some details!”

It could be possibly, that teal is studying astrology just to make it seem she is coincidentally dropping into our own specific life events?
I’ve had relationships just like this and at a certain point I really had to take personal responsibility for projecting my overlays on to other people and expecting relationships to work out.
And I love what you said about paying attention to how people treat other people. I dated a guy once that treated animals, waitresses, and even his own mother like complete crap and this might sound messed up, but at the time it actually made me feel special because he was sweet to me and not others, but over time he started treating me exactly the way he treated others with disrespect and so on. Taught me a good lesson!

I'm dealing with this right now. I met a guy who seems perfect in every way but doesn't seem like he's really engaged in me as a person or interested in who I am. It hurts so bad to be alone. I'm 26 and scared I'll never find love and become an old maid. This video helped me realize I shouldn't waste my time...

The reality of relationships is scary. I have casted people in characters and than I myself act as a certain character. I am at a blank slate right now. I hate it sometimes but I am ready to meet my needs and accept people for who they are and choose consciously where I meet them

This was me and my ex boyfriend of the last 2& 1/2 years.. we “escaped” the reality of adult life with each other in a strange sense. We partied and did drugs, a lot of sex & admiration of each other. But at the end of the day he was an avoidant attachment musician type and I the anxious type starved to fill the emotional gap my dad did not even come close to filling... this is the hardest yet most relief filled time of my life. I’m seeing my life change before my eyes now that I’m focusing on myself & filling that love gap myself
"Overlay" would also be known as the projection Carl Yung claimed to occur so frequently in early relationships; the projection of archetypes, namely the idealized animus/a.

I'm thinking that this can be the same with overlaying our past traumatic experiences onto others. This seems to be like a ptsd response to triggers where we are "seeing" the past trauma happen over again and placing the other into the role that we recognize and respond to that overlay. This is where I get mixed up about red-flags . Noticing where the trauma overlay is happening and where reality is happening. Life's a trip, man.

Can someone please help me with this because I am confused. How is overlay a thing in a mirror-based universe? Because if overlay is seemingly just a layer on top of actual reality (which I would think is your reflection) then this universe isn’t entirely mirror based I would think.

After watching this video and her reality video millions of times I've come to the conclusion that overlay is a cop out to facing your pain. It's an avoidance energy. Not a creation energy.

This video is so fantastic....another reality check from Teal, regarding relationships....this has been an ongoing struggle for me, with people around me, treating me as their overlay and not as myself...it almost cost me my life, in fact.........being aware of this is key to having a healthy relationship with others, and to be able to recognize when you are nothing but someone else's overlay,...truly can save you the heartache later on when they 'reveal' to you, that this is who you really are to them...I experienced that, and it devastated me.....thank you Teal for acknowledging this....and for caring about the reality of this relationship issue..
Exactly! In my past relationships I really believed I was in love with them but I was in love with what I wanted to be true, so much so that when one particular guy rejected me, I became so obsessed with the overlay of us that I thought my purpose on this planet was over or doomed. I didn't try to commit suicide but I imagined having failed the entirety of humanity on a cosmic level and ended up 5150 twice in the mental hospital. I eventually learned through those experiences and English 2: Critical thinking to question everything and to critique it in regards to thorough thought. Thank you Teal for this much needed insight.
I had a similar experience! Minus the mental hospital, it was a suicide attempt 10 years ago...

Great content. I've struggled for years wondering why my relationships never work out. Have a lot of shame about not being true to myself. Struggled on how to move forward. Found someone older who I connect with. I hope its not an overlay!

omg...Teal does it again...spells out another "elephant in the room (world)" Thank you, thank you, thank you! :) This is just yet another way of describing my upbringing. All of the females in the family (except me) just "went along" with the consensus "overlay".... I have not generally been susceptible to this myself because I could see it from a very early age and could see it's dysfunction, but can identify at least one time I began to slip into this pattern....after a lengthy period of literally all my focus going into my son while he was dealing with a health crisis... my usual practice of noticing these "overlays" that people use had gone un-exercised, and thus my guard was down when my son got better and I was in such a state of depletion that I unconsciously allowed myself to see certain situations as "more perfect" than they actually were....This was probably due to a combination of the period of singular focus on my son....the need to be fed with a more positive experience...and the sudden opportunity that his recovery provided for me to do so (it felt like a "slingshot" type of thing.....being held down and then "let go") Even while it was happening I was thinking to myself "I need to reign myself in here"..."slow down"....don't let your need for some joy steer you toward self deception"...etc...(saying no to water when I was dying of thirst). and THANK GOD, I was able....through what felt like a truly herculean effort....to untangle the realities from the overlays before I fell into a problematic situation. I would not have used the word "overlays" because I didn't have a word for this phenomenon, but was no stranger to the phenomenon itself. I just had to "enlarge" my focus again after having narrowed it down for so long and remind myself of what I already knew. BTW...don't you think all of our consensus reality is an "overlay" of sorts? Possibly a necessary one until such time as we (collectively) don't need it anymore? O.k...I'm digressing. My own "baseline" is to want a "real" relationship, and this means NOT pre-determining a specific picture of how it will be, but rather that mutually authentic love and attunement is the foundation from which there would be infinite potential "creative paths" that could be taken....It's only from that foundation, I believe, that true, healthy, creative, growing, dynamic relationship can occur.

I think I knew this back when the video was first posted, but watching it again now I’m amazed at how much this seems to be about Teal and her relationship with Ale. I’ve said several times how Teal’s old blog (where she talked about the struggles she was personally facing) helped me and gave me courage. Knowing that someone as strong, smart, and beautiful as Teal faced hardships and seeing how she applied her own teachings to heal her own heart encouraged me to try her teachings. She leads by example and I really respect that. I wish she was still as open in her blogs, but I understand why she stopped. Anyways, the insight she gained from her relationship with Ale has helped me so much as a fellow “love addict.” That’s why I’m watching this again!

Too many of us are 'recovering' from desperate situations or upbringings...and it is important to engage in relationships and to do so with a great commitment to HONOUR.
Also, as true friends or sisters or brothers, why are we not calling our loved ones into deeper truth about relationship, instead of uncaringly going along with supporting these lies, fantasies, illusions.
The baby does not need to be thrown out with the bath water. We can get fresh bath water and clean up the baby and be true. Everyone will win.

You know Teal, chinese astrology Bazi has a concept about this, pretty central one too. If you have a too strong Day Master (unlucky element is too strong one), you will usually be more lonely, and are bound to have self-esteem issues and ego issues. I've found this to be very true in my life, never seen a chart with a stronger day master than mine, probably because those people are usually more lonely and dont draw others into their lives, unless they do more about it than your average person. I found this improved for me when I worked on my chi flow through five elements system, applied more of those weaker elements to my life.
And I think I'm starting to connect a few dots here. Teal has already done that and so have probably many of you who follow her, so let me just confirm things. The idea that we are one, through the divine or "original" or universal or source in us, that idea is connected to how you treat other people. Teal said once that to really love is to love everybody, and it's been said that the society is only as good as its worst-off citizens, like inmates or the poor sick unemployed people. You can apply that societal thing to yourself, you being the society and all who you interact with, your citizens. So your true love is only as good as how you treat those who you dislike the most and have the least respect for. Because true love is from the source, and there's some of the source in all of us.

Teal you bring up some good points. I sometimes tend to be idealistic when choosing. I can see the potential for Overlay and its true self awareness can correct that too. Good video. Dear old Dad was a Overt Narcissist. He had some very enduring qualities I liked however much acceptance was needed in the relationship. My HEAVENLY Father is so different.
and NEXT.....I'd love to hear you untangle the differences between "pretending" and "transcending" I believe they can be confused, both by onlookers when observing the behavior of others and by ourselves (when spiritually bypassing) You may have done this in some previous video...If so, does anyone know which video? I suspect the difference is in fully acknowledging the realities at the human level, and "even though it may be true" that at another level these realities are not true Realities...it doesn't mean they aren't "real" at THIS level and thus must be acknowledged for what they are, rather than "pretend" that they don't really matter....or pretending that we are "immune" to them at this level.

What is the difference between an overlay and a visualization, imagining what we want etc. - I mean if the people are able to think so intensely that they literally live their imagination, they should be emitting and thus attracting the vibrations of it and actually create that very thing , don't they?

To manifest you need to fully accept your current circumstances first. The person who has an overlay does not.
Hi @Nela, when you are manifesting truly you are Not pretending, but you are truly being this Version you are wanting to manifest. That is also why manifestation often does not work because people just pretend, but Not listen to the truth in their heart and heal whats going on a feeling state and what attracts the unwanted Situation in the First place. Overlaying is more a mental Game then a truly healed and integrated Feeling state. Lets say we are desperate and we are trying to visualize how our Partner brings us flowers, spends time with us and appreciates us for what we truly are, but then he comes home brings no flowers, pays no attention and we are actually trying to supress the believe we have towards him or men in General that they disappoint, dont understand and everything is Always more Important to them then their Partners by continuing to Hope IT will Happen tomorrow and telling ourselves that He will Bring IT tomorrow without actually believing IT, because what we actually belive IS that He does Not Care about us. Overlaying as Teal says is telling yourself i am Not afraid, while you are, saying you are free, while you are Not ( Like in the prison scenario) . Manifestation comes First of all from a realization where you are right now f.e. Not free , Not appreciated. When you realize you are the creator you dont have to mentally Run away from what you have created. You will Look closly what got you here and Change what you want to be different. Somebody who tries to flee reality and who wants to hold on to the pretend Version is Not empowered and actually feels trapped in the Situation, Like a mother who pretends her husband is Not raping their daughter every night, because she does Not Know how to financially survive without him. That is an overlay, she is Not honest and her pretending mentally that it does Not Happen and that they are a Happy Family does Not change the fact that it is Happening. Manifestation is a highly empowered state, IT IS the realization to Know that we are creating our reality. If we feel rich, think rich, act rich, abundance has to come, but IT will only Work If IT IS Our truth on all levels. I am conviced a prisoner can through Integration and manifestion feel so free that physical reality will Aline. IT has to. IT IS a law, but IT Happens, when He IS Not pretending anymore, but he IS free on an emotional and mental Level. When you are rich, you are Not Desperate for Money anymore, so you do Not Care If it comes, because you have it already. To mentally and emotionally practise the states we want to be in is fantastic, but only then to truly live them. If we are only pretending to be free, because we Know we are not we entrappe ourselves even more and feel highly powerless, we are fleeing reality instead of creating a New one. How would a free Person ACT,feel, think? He would live IT/Be it and Not only pretend. You can be anything! There is No Limits, but are we truly Happy or are we Just making up a Story that we are so we do Not have to face the truth. If we are Happy or truly ready to manifest Something we will Go for it and IT will come to as Well, we dont have to pretend that Out Partner will Care, He actually does. Overlaying is playing mental movies because you do Not believe that it could actually be your reality. Its denying of how you truly feel. I Hope IT makes sense :) all the Love, Janin
