    The perfect vehicle for construction, ultiliy and farm work. It can a carry a load. It doesn’t need all the electronic gubbins , satnav etc … a normal handbrake is fine.. it can I’ll a trailer and can go over roughy ground. This was built for a purpose. It was not built or sold to target those who buy these trucks to to use them as a normal car.

    A lot of interesting stuff in this video: The electric motor is not only poorly protected from impacts, but it's also mounted on the axis. So, it will face a lot of vibration. Also, it increases the unsprung mass, really bad for comfort, even being a pick up. Not a good design option IMHO.

    • @leobreevoort9151
      @leobreevoort9151 9 месяцев назад +2

      Very common construction. All LSEVs (low speed electric vehicles, like the Ligier Bjorn tested) are like this and by extension, also many small Chinese city cars like Wuling Hongguang Mini EV or Geely Panda Mini. The motor is bolted directly to the differential housing of the solid axle. There have been 1 or 2 examples of LSEVs with in-wheel axial flux motors, but that's more expensive. These solid e-axles are probably really, really cheap when bought in bulk. Most pickups also have solid axles, so it's quite understandable why the motor ended up where it is. It's the case for most of the Chinese pickup conversions (from an ICE model).

    • @hi9580
      @hi9580 8 месяцев назад +2

      Most electric trucks have motors mounted that way including semi-trailers and container trucks

    • @Robcomesana
      @Robcomesana 8 месяцев назад

      @@hi9580 I'm not an expert on light trucks, but other medium or heavy duty EV's have used better approaches. For instance: the Ford Transit electric has a motor on the rear axle position but mounted on the frame. Power reaches the wheels through CV shafts. Heavier trucks usually place the electric motor on the former combustion engine bay and use a shaft to deliver the power to the rear differential. This is quite weird from my perspective and not a good solution at all on comfort or durability terms.

    I couldn't find the Mythbusters episode you mentioned, but I seem to recall the exact opposite as you. The tailgate up creates a bubble of turbulent air in the bed, which air can then flow over, improving efficiency. The tailgate down has the opposite effect. Here's a young Jason explaining it: ruclips.net/video/xocaC15WwA0/видео.html&ab_channel=EngineeringExplained

      There also doesn't seem to be a locking position for the tailgate in the down position, so anytime the car goes over a bump in the road the tailgate would slam down to the endpoint of its travel distance - very likely damaging it over time. So, not good! :P

    The parking brake thing is not that concerning imo.
    The same problem is present with ICE cars at the gas station too but we managed to live with it for decades. It is still safer as an ICE car if you can't put it in Drive while charging. (can you? xD)

      ICE cars have a gear that can act as a break. That's what this truck lacks. The 2nd line of defense.

    400V x 200A = 80.000W When i see it from the side, i dont wonder that it is such a gasguzzler, obviously they have the BMW-disease.

    Sat in one of these at Fully Charged North and thought it seemed like a pile of sh*t then. I'm not down on Chinese stuff but this thing really seems to live up to the stereotype.

    That thing is operated like an EV conversion. Totally legal, but not very modern at all. Very lackluster design by SAIC.

    I'm not impressed at all with the Maxus, it seems to be nothing more than a compliance car. It under-equipped, and over-priced.

    Electric pick-up at the price of internal combustion. I have low expectations but this is too shitty.

    W h a t you had too stop 2 times in a 340km trip! ! !?? I LOVE TO SEE THE PULL THRU CHARGERS AT IONITY. ALL CHARGERS N E E D TO BE THIS WAY. TESLA TAKE NOTE, STOP WITH THE BACK IN CHARGERS AND MAKE THEM ALL PULL THRU. This is very Important especially now with pickups hitting the market and people TOWING TRAILERS. There is a reason all ice fuel stations are made PULL thru rather than back in, electric chargers need to be that way as well, plus the fact that the pump can be accessed from either side. The lack of power in this pickup is ridiculous and dangerous and power efficiency makes no sense. Obviously this is an ICE truck converted to electric, and not very well. Lack of a frunk and such a small bed in the back means this is not any better than a hatch back for most people . CHEERS AND SAFE TRAVELS Steve h.

    "Not the best." 12:16
    But is it the worst?
    No park in the gearbox; dog slow charging; poorly mounted motor; unnecessarily huge ICE 12v battery and radiator; no cruise control; awful stereo; limited vehicle to load; no frunk; struggling over 100kph up even a gentle hill and not loaded...
    It might suit a contractor who needs to carry stuff around to site and wants to have "100% Electric" written on the side. For anyone else, don't touch it with a barge pole!
    The no park issue might actually make it illegal to sell in some countries.

    That thing doesn't have an aero shield underneath the car. No wonder it slurps electricity... That and the no frunk, low charging speed, poor performance, parking brake that can be disengaged while charging etc smells el cheapo chinese engineering bigtime. That grounding braid also looks hella dodgy! With it waving about in the breeze and the car going over bumps etc - how long until it develops metal fatigue? Especially as it's probably made out of aluminium...
    Chinese vehicle makers CAN do things properly for sure, if they just want to. Depressing that whoever made this thing don't seem to be trying very hard with this model...
    Btw, those Norwegian EV charging stations with rows and rows of stalls... Bigtime jealousy! lol
