- Basically looking for an excuse to test my camera/audio setup again, I take my Maxus T90EV out for a spin and answer some of your questions from the last video
I think we're going to need some better image stabilisation to deal with the ride quality though!

I’d very much expect this truck not to be superb,£100 a month is cheaper than walking which is a bargain in my book, thanks for the 2nd video fella cheers 👍
Same rear suspension as my Morris Minor 😂
if it's stupid but it works, it ain't stupid
They're definitely taking the piss a bit by being the first full EV pickup to market in the UK, but I quite like them for what they are. Needed a non-van support vehicle around town for work (having got vans already), and it's spot on really, having access to essentially free charging at our sites.
An interesting experiment. Good on you. Of course this will build the experience for future models. I'll look out for this being driven in my far northern outpost of borderline England.
Looking forward to seeing the Ami on the back.
Towbar is out of stock 🙈 had notifications today from PF Jones that they're refunding me because they don't have/can't get.
Will need to try a Maxus dealer I guess.
this!
Is there a tonneau cover for the load bed as that will smooth the airflow over the bed / tailgate at higher speeds possibly help increase the efficiency a bit too as well as stopping water filling the load bed!
Water doesn’t fill the bed - the tailgate would need to be a much tighter fit for that 🤭. Load covers do exist but most of them cost more than the total amount payable on my lease.
For the ZS EV, there is a way to make it show climate control instead of a bar. It still does the exact same thing as it did before, but I found it more useful because it is much easier for me to perceive a number instead of how far the bar is to gauge the setting while driving. So I know that at 22c the AC is working, and at 23c the heater is working. anything above or below is how far said thing is working.
Do you have traffic calming measures around your town? Or bad potholes or recessed drain covers? The wobbling seemed better to me but there'd be occasional judders. There were a lot more around the housing estate at the start I though.
The roads in the estate aren’t topped so that doesn’t help 😂
Good to see another video 😂
Any issues with delayed charging? My dads isn’t working with his easee. Going to try other makes on delayed charge. Could it be like the early ZS and have a time limit before a charge needs to begin?
It’s fine with my Zappi but I have heard of some people having issues with other chargers
How does it brake in the wet when empty, as in do the rear wheels lock up if braking heavily?
Uhh... fine? Can't say I'm in the habit of getting into situations where I need to brake particularly hard in the wet no matter what I'm driving, mind.
Good video but I can see why that pick up isn't selling when it's a lot of money with a lot of issues
I think the Maxus is a good looking truck, am I the only one? Re heating an EV, you are right about being shocked at first seeing the range go down when you put the heater on. I have got used to it now, luckily my wifes Smart car EV has heated seats & steering wheel which is a must have option in my opinion.
Could you turn down the volume of the reversing sensor?
Good question - there's a myriad of options in the infotainment system for various settings, I'll need to have a look and see if this is one of them!
Sound comes across much better with the gain reduced.
The back axle, with the motor bolted to the diff housing like that, must have huge unsprung weight.
It’s not the most inspiring tech in 2024.
Hope your time spent with it is ok.
Great video, I am surpirsed at 2 miles per kw
Expecting more or less?
I had a Mitsubishi L200 that used to bounce about like that! Admittedly that was a few years ago but as expected this Chinese brand has just made a simple and basic pickup.
These things make sense in rural parts of America and Australia but when you see people driving around British Towns they look ridiculous. It's not as if they will have bales of hay in the back, unless that tiny bale is for the duaghter's pet hamster.
For a cheap Chinese pickup this does what it needs to do. Unfortunately modern pickup ICE vehicles are years ahead of this in terms of fit, finish and ride quality. Hopefully, when they can not sell them at £50k and end up nearly giving them away, they will know to improve the MK2.?
Tech genius 😂😂😂brilliant update
£25 a week ? , no brainier .
Looks like this truck is living down to expectations, or is that a bit harsh?
I quite like it tbh. I’d be gutted if I’d bought it for £60k (or £30k, would maybe be okay for the £20k they were in Dec) but it’s a really good replacement for my old Kangoo ZE.
I saw a white Maxus EV today around M6 Toll junction T6. Could it have been you?
Not guilty! There’s quite a few on the road now it seems.
Obviously is fairly crap but that space at that lease price has its appeal.
The motor looks a bit vulnerable under there .
don't drive over big things I guess - not sure it's any more vulnerable than a diff is on a diesel one really
@@ModernHeroes I considered that too. Thanks for answering.
Maxus are selling shed loads of EV vans in the north of England, they’re appearing everywhere 😊
I’d love to know if they’re a bit more refined. I’ve seen a few down here too, mostly DPD.
As mediocre as the Maxus appears to be, if you have a use case for it, it could be an option to consider.
The organisation I work for has a need for a work vehicle to haul people and goods or gardening equipment between 4 locations within a 30 mile radius for 90% of its usage. It is on road only and there’s no need for off roading capability.
It will do under 200 miles per month.
We had an ancient lwb transit that was just condemned and is no longer roadworthy, after spending £2.5k over the last two years keeping it on the road!
Driving home from work today I saw a 21 plate Ford ranger on the local ford dealers forecourt at £22k. I found a 23 plate maxus dealer demo car with 1000 miles on it on auto trader at £26k. It suddenly looks a much more viable prospect as a load lugger.
Just a thought.
100% - it makes SO much more sense at the kind of money it's available for now.
Great use case
come on is the range to battery size not the same as a taycan does. well the one MacMaster has seems to get that type of range.
so the heater is like 2 setting on and off really.
the underneath of the car truck has no covers or protective plates to protect the parts underneath.
why does this car seen to be like a Russia tank. meant to be advanced but is so low ability
A real world driving and see what you can really get for efficiency
can we have more of your face in the camera.
I can't understsnd why manufacturers can't build in a 12 volt battery wired up to an alternator to run the accessories thus not depleting the range.
A 12v heater wouldn’t do much
@@ModernHeroes Then you know nothing
😂 alright then.
Man powers his house off a 9v Duracell
In which case you haven’t realised that turning the alternator is like adding a light brake to the vehicle - which means the traction battery and motor have to work a little harder. Plus, you have to generate a lot of electrical current at 12V, which is an inefficient way to do it due to internal resistance. So if you represent the state of knowledge of EV enthusiasts - you need to go back to electrical engineering school.!!!
Maxus? The f....?😮😂
🤷♂️
Do you feel scammed buying this vehicle?
I didn’t buy it, it’s leased. Not sure why I’d feel scammed when it pretty much costs less than buying a sandwich from Tesco every day.
EVangelist admitting EV is shit 😂
