    Great content! I’m on the same path a year behind you. I love the spreadsheets you have! are all the dividend calendars…monthly and daily automatically filled, or do you do the calculations every month?

    Quick question as I am fairly new to the channel. I see you are heavily invested in SCHD and much less so in the monthly paying JEPI. Is that because you feel that the dividend growth will be stronger with SCHD? I have a portfolio that is similar in size but a different strategy as I do not need to solely live off of my dividends but merely plan to use it to augment my other income streams. I have been looking at both SCHD and JEPI and was leaning to JEPI because I like the monthly payout as it will balance my monthly income better. I will probably end up investing in both just wondering why you are more heavily into SCHD. Thanks in advance. Really enjoy the content.

    • @Dividendology
      @Dividendology  6 месяцев назад +1

      JEPI is good for providing immediate dividend income, but you will see little to no growth in the dividend payments and share price over time. The dividend payments from JEPI also fluctuate quite a bit. SCHD will see great share price appreciation and more importantly dividend growth. This means it will provide more dividend income over longer periods of time.

    • @Dividendology
      @Dividendology  6 месяцев назад +2

      Good question! I'll give a quick explanation:
      There are two things that play a major role in the compound effect.
      1. Reinvesting dividends
      2. The stocks you hold increasing their dividend payouts
      When you decide its time to live off dividends, obviously that means you will no longer be reinvesting dividends. But if the rate of your dividend increases is higher than the rate of inflation, then you will be able to indefinitely live off dividends. On the other hand, if inflation is high than the rate of your dividend increases, eventually your cost of living will surpass your monthly dividend payments. This is often the problem with high yielding stocks. They typically have low dividend growth rates. So a problem many people have is they think they can live off dividends, but come to realize that their cost of living is increasing, while their dividend payments are not increasing. Dividend growth stocks on the other hand typically increase their dividend payouts at a rate above inflation, making them a very powerful compounding investment!

Personally I would invest in SCHD or O (or dividend stock of your choosing) with that $500 a month and let it compound each month. That $500 each month will compound A LOT over 10 years. Than 20 years. And of course we both know over that time you will more than save more than $500 / month so keep up the good work. You’re doing great. Sincerely, some guy on the internet 😀

      Yea I think the additional income beyond our normal job can be intimidating especially for people with busy lives.
      But EVERYONE can cut expenses. I have a bunch of memberships I can cancel. I dont go to the gym, why do I support them monthly ;).
      And I definitely echo the 500$ a month is no small deal! It's not the same amount you should invest forever but it's a great start! When you get a raise try not to spend it! That's pretty much how I increase my investing on a year by year basis. I also always invest as much of my bonus as I can! Feels like a lump sum for a person that's always DCAing.
      I'm at 14k invested in my taxable after about 2.5 years! Slow investing will still get us there! It's already starting to grow by itself and I just need to jump start it by saving more.

    • @travismartinson1813
      @travismartinson1813 6 месяцев назад

      That's about all I can swing right now also. I have a small percentage in SOXL and TQQQ and that really boosts my returns. When we have a good rally I bring the percentage back down and buy safer investments like SCHD. JEPI is another good fund to bring in more income every month so you can buy more of whatever is down. I have most everything in M1 finance so I just divide my total investment for the month by how many trading days are left and buy everyday. M1 automatically picks what to buy based on my percentages and what's down that day. I only trim the leveraged funds when rsi on the daily chart is above 75. I don't sell anything else and just let them be because they are safer investments like dividend stocks. I'm currently up about 50% for the year so my strategy is working pretty well. If you can't afford to invest a lot the other way to grow your portfolio faster is to increase returns. 10k with a 50% return only takes 12 years to reach a million. My strategy is called barbell investing if you want to research it yourself.
