  • All Of The Problems With This Toyota Tundra After 3+ Years
Toyota Tundras are known for their reliability and durability but the amount of problems I’ve had with this truck since day one might surprise you. I purchased this new 2021 Toyota Tundra over 3 years ago and while it’s not exactly old, it’s been used almost every day since. With well over 60,000 miles, it’s been put to use doing long-haul towing and hauling, transporting cargo and used as an extended road trip vehicle so I’ve come to know every issue with this truck. Make sure to stay to the end if you have a Tundra or are thinking of buying one.

I bought my 19’ Tundra 1794 brand new and i have had “0 issues” no squeaks or rattles, no trailering problems… however i did have some minor shaking in the steering wheel which turned out to be a tire out of balance that was fixed for free.
For the insane prices that newer trucks have become, I’m keeping this one till the wheels fall off! Long live the V8. 😊

If you could go back in time to 2019 and choose between the Tundra 1794 and the Tundra TRD Pro, which would you choose, and why? Interested in your opinion and other Tundra owner opinions because you have real experience with the trucks. Right now I'm considering buying a 2021 TRD Pro.

You can fix the rattling by adding a small adhesive foam where rattling happens. Point being that the plastic shrinks when cold and it creates gaps. Having something to brace or fill the gap should fix this.

I have a 20 Tundra TRD OR SR5 with just over 50 000 kms. Only issues were a bad battery at 6 months, a cracked windshield and replace front rotors due to excessive rust. I agree Toyota brakes are not good. Next time I am buying hi performance rotors and pads. My Tundra has been even better than my Tacoma. Tacoma and Tundra best trucks I have ever owned.

Pretty much...very minimal as I explained in the video

I wouldn’t say having warped brake rotors and having to turn the rotors with only 1500 miles “not having any real issues”.

This video is just a summary of the issues this truck has had, not make them sound like a big deal

Is an aftermarket upgraded brake kit available for the Tundra? Bigger rotors and bigger calipers?

My 2020 TNGA Japan-built Corolla SE sedan 6-MT was also a bag full of problems & quality issues for the 2 years that I kept it before finally trading it & moving on. It's not 2000 any more & neither Toyota or Honda builds them as well as they used to. That's been my experience anyway.

I have watched all your videos and you are one of the reasons I bought a 2021 Tundra. I also have had two failed GM Trucks and a Ford Raptor in the last 6 years.
    1) GMC Sierra transmission shutter that dealer could not repair so I dumped it. 2) Chevy Silverado lifters issues so I dumped it. Lets try a really tuff truck 2019 Ford Raptor
11,000 miles you guessed it cam phasers. Dealer wanted to install the same defective phasers I said no thanks so you guessed it dumped it also. I need a reliable truck
for long road trips. It's sad I had to get a 2021 old school V8 15 year platform to get some reliability. The Tundra has been very reliable quit no squeaks or rattles experience.
Its not the best on gas milage but at least I don't have to listen to some service adviser BS'ing me about why my truck is broke. If you need a reliable truck don't hesitate
to get a Tundra but it will cost you more in fuel. In the long run you will only see the dealer for regular maintenance.

Dealing with the same GM issues myself. 2020 1500 with 25,XXX miles. Transmission shutter issues feels like it’s about to fall out from under it. I’m going to trade it in this week absolutely pisses me off. I could get the transmission rebuilt but then what if the lifters fail? I’m over it, going back to Toyota. Looking at a 21 crew max 4wd with only 22,000 for about 47k. Reliability is well worth it imo. I can’t believe the trash the “big 3” are putting out.

I had a 2008 Crewmax I purchased in 2011, with 65,000 miles on it. It recently got totaled by an inattentive driver, with over 330,00 miles. It was the best truck and family road vehicle of all the Fords, Chevys, and Dodges I have owned in more than 40 years of driving. So I now have a 2021 Crewmax, and plan to keep it until another inattentive driver comes along. The "cosmetic redesign" of 2014 took away many nice features of the previous design, but it's still a great vehicle.

If you want to know a real rattle buy a GM truck any year....I have not had a more quiet truck than my tundra except maybe the tacoma I had before it. Havent noticed the trailering issue yet. AND THEN you mentioned something that might be the only real issue Ive had with mine. The steering wheel shake. Ive had one since I bought mine in 2019. It doesnt happen when I brake though and seems to go away for the most part after being on the highway for some time. Im on my second set of tires so its not a tire issue. Ill have to replace rotors and see if it goes away. Im still happy with the truck though after owning 2 failed GMS in 5 years. Major failures too. One an engine and the other a transmission. All before 100k miles on each.

So bottom line, very minor issues, almost none. Have you long term driven other brand lately?

These issues are minimal as I explained. That's the point of the video.

I have 190k miles on my 2020 Tundra and haven’t had one issue. I use it for work and towing. Regular maintenance, tires, brakes and rotors. Nothing Major at all. Knock on wood.

What trim is your Tundra? SR, SR5, Limited, TRD Pro, Platinum, 1794?

My 2014 tundra 5.7 just blew a head gasket with 175k. It never overheated or had issues. Went from a misfire on Saturday to losing coolant by Monday. Dealer serviced its whole life.
